I have recently purchased an old off-lease HP Compaq dc7700p to use as a backup desktop. I loaded Windows 7 64 onto it and everything seems to be functioning normally aside from a peculiar problem. Every time the PC restarts, it will hang on a blank black screen after POST. I have to hold down the power button for a hard reset, after which it will boot normally.

this is the latest mini dump file most the time my comp never blue screens just hangs black so i never knew there was mini dump files still coming in and i have a bunch of those but this is the latest one.
had a driver issue a while back was getting blue screens from it but i completely erased it out of drivers folder and win32 drivers folder which was locked but i used a reg editor here that made it possible to take ownership of a folder and then i completely deleted it out of my system so i think.
Anytime I have my external hard drive (2 TB Seagate Expansion) plugged into my computer (any USB port) and I try to shut down, it comes alive from sleep after being unused and spins up while Windows is in the blue backgrounded screen that says "Shutting down" and it just completely stops the process of shutting down, leaving it there for minutes and possibly more (can't remember how long at the longest, been so long since I left it plugged before shutting down and I usually just unpower the drive if it hangs).
What causes Windows to randomly start accessing the drive? It only has my movies and music and images and manual backups, so no program actually needs those files and at that phase with the shutting down screen, no other program should be running but the OS itself. (somewhere else it was suggested that any programs still running would cause the drive to spin up when trying to close)Here's my basic system info from the TSG info tool Quote:

After booting, the computer freezes at the welcome screen after logging in as any of the users. Sometimes it will restart automatically, other times it has to be "hard shut down". It freezes at the same time, consistently. Occasionally, through an unknown set of steps, I can get the computer to boot properly. It crashes after a short while of using it, and then once again crashes at the welcome screen. Every time it has crashed so far it was while playing a game (not necessarily graphics-intensive). Again, after this crash the computer returns to just crashing at the Welcome Screen.

When I booted up, posted fine, got to login screen fine, then when it got to "Welcome" screen, it seemed to just sit with the "loading" circle constantly spinning.I can get into safe mode with no problem. Running repair with disk returned with no errors.The only thing I changed internally was -1 front usb connection, and I now have my HDD and Optical drive hooked into SATA 6 ports, before Optical was SATA 6 port and HDD was SATA 3 port. BIOS is seeing HDD and Optical at correct locations.when I loaded up safe mode, I got a message saying the computer had to be restarted for changes to take effect. All updates to Windows must be approved by me before downloading and installing.

- so i do another clean installation, i delete all the partition and start a clean installation
- everything goes fine and when i do restarting, 7 just stop at welcome screen.

My problem is that during Windows 7 Ultimate installation (right after the first reboot) the screen goes black! The monitor does not loose the signal because I can still see the green solid LED on it. I have run into this issue four times with four different PCs with four different configurations. The only common denominator here is the type of video card (I say the type of video card because this has happened with different brands and models of video cards). This has happened only with video cards that have DVI, S-Video and VGA ports, but only on the ones that have the VGA port that PLUGS through a little ribbon cable to the card it self. I have successfully installed Windows 7 on systems that have video cards with the same ports but the VGA port is solder to the card. It seems that after the first reboot and after it displays "Starting Windows", Windows thinks that the active port on the video card is the DVI port and NOT the VGA port that has been using up until that point! I know this because I have used a DVI to VGA adapter right after the screen goes black and there it is! the setup process waiting for my input (create a user)...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just built this computer a couple of months ago, yesterday I turned on my computer in the morning, and it ran fine, did my usual morning website raid on soccer etc, turned it off went out to do some errands, came back and turned it on and it kept hanging on the "Windows Loading" screen, read around about a couple of things it could be, i think I narrowed it down to my secondard hard drive (WD 500G Caviar Blue) which i use for storage and downloads, all my games and OS are installed on my solid state.
So whenever my secondary hard drive is plugged in, my comp hangs on "Windows Loading". If i unplug it, it loads up windows quick and easy like always. I turned on hot swap, and if i plugged in my HDD after my computer was already loading into windows, it would be fine than once it recognized it, it would start crashing my windows explorer etc constantly. I tried switching SATA ports, now it goes into windows with the hard drive plugged into another SATA port, the HDD is recoginzed in Disk Management, and is also recognized in device manager, but I cant access it.

I'm having random crashes during general usage on my pc. Attached you will(hopefully) find bsod logs. I have run memtest already and it came back ok. I have also updated to latest nvidia drivers and it still happens.This is a nearly fresh install of windows 7 and i have loaded minimal software onto it since install a week or so ago.

Just recently been getting a crash when the display will go black and not respond again an I have to manually turn off an on the computer or (very rarely) it will reboot. If I have music or any sound being played through the speakers at the time, the sound gets all distorted and turns into static. I have reformated and i still get the problem so I don't think it is software, I have also ran hardware checks and all the main components seem fine. I can turn it on first thing in the morning and it will run good for a few hours then crash, also I can leave it on stand by almost all day with no problem then wake it an it only takes a few minutes of browsing the net for it to crash and after that it will crash within 30min of reboot.
My PC reboots its self after windows logo I have got it to work before by doing a system restore but I would have to do it twice to get it to work. I have a mini dump which I will upload.

About week ago my computer started freezing and rebooting and then hangs at bios splash screen (will stay there with nothing happening for hours if u let it) until you reboot it than it comes back fine until it does it again. The only thing I noticed is if the machine is off for a while it takes a lot longer for it to happen, If you restart it it last around 15 -20 mins.
1) Updated all drivers and checked device manger for errors.
2) checked and defragged drive C: drive (ssd)
3) checked both for events and dmp files (nothing ) made sure reporting was on
3) Ran windows mem check froze twice while testing once with both strips and once with only one strip installed
4) replaced ram

I have issues booting my desktop. It shows the initial Intel chipset screen (F10 for BIOS, F2 for boot order) and then screen turns black for 2 seconds and computer reboots back to the Intel screen. [code] Steps Performed so far:
1. I can go into BIOS but cannot boot the PC.
2. I tried reseating all memory modules and used 1 memory stick one at a time. No success. 3. Removed graphics card and connected monitor to integrated video port on mobo - no success. 4. reseated HDD connections - no success. HDD, 5. RAM are getting detected in BIOS.
6. Unable to boot to safe mode.
7. Tried reinstalling the OS using CD. Stuck at Windows is loading file. The bar moves for 5 seconds and then stops.
None of the above worked
I have an Inspiron 5010 and after a Windows 7 update the screen, after the Windows 7 splash screen becomes pixelated and then reboots. I have tried to go into safe mode but it blue screens every time and quickly reboots.
View 8 Replies View RelatedEverything shows up fine until the welcome screen after that it normally used to fade to the desktop but now it goes blank. The screen in Black with only the mouse pointer. Its not hung, i can move the mouse pointer. Then after a minute or so it advances to the desktop. Everything on the desktop loads up in less than 5s. The PC runs fine, it is really fast as there are only a few programs, but only boots slow. My total boot time is about 3-5 min. I think it should be like in a minute or so.I have not tweaked much with the system but have installed a few programs like MS office, Nero, Acrobat and Photoshop. These are the only heavy programs in the PC right now. The only games on the PC are AC1 and AC2. I have uninstalled my graphic driver and reinstalled. I already minimized the programs in the msconfig>startup to the minimum. I have run ccleaner, spybot s&d, Antimalware and i also have a trial copy of Kaspersky AV (upgrading later to 1-year license). there are no peripherals attached during boot except the USB keyboard and mouse. A printer is attached too but is most of the time turned off.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing seemingly random crashes and auto-restarts of my computer that started a couple months ago. When it crashes, the video feed to my monitors stops so they go dark and say no signal and any sound that was playing begins stuttering; after about 10 seconds my computer restarts, so apparently there was a bluescreen that I could not see and the delay was windows saving the crash dump.The problem is that the crashes are completely random; well, not completely, they only occur when I'm playing a fullscreen game, never when browsing the web or watching videos. About a month ago I freshly reinstalled windows 7 on a spare hard drive; hoping the problem was somehow related to 'garbage' and a fresh install would fix it. It stopped... for a while, and then started back up again.
I did some googling recently, found that someone with a similar issue had fixed it by upgrading their drivers; did so and found several including mobo inf and related were very out of date. That was about a week ago. When Skyrim was released on the 11th I did a marathon gaming session that lasted about 30 hours (yeah, I know) with zero computer issues whatsoever.Then, yesterday afternoon I started playing Skyrim again.. and it crashed again randomly about 2 hours into my play. Crashed again about an hour later; and then this evening it crashed like 10 minutes into my play session.I don't normally ask for help with computer issues; I've always fixed them myself with assistance from googling stuff and forums that helped me figure out what to do, but this is beyond me.
I built my current system december '08, upgraded the graphics card to the current gtx 570 last december and upgraded my OS from vista to 7 a few months ago. The rest of my system info is in my system profile stuff. Brief version below:

Also, my system runs quite cool; normal cpu idle temps are 84 F and system 120 ish. I've never experienced any graphical corruption either.One other thing I just recalled. Before about november 8th, these crashes used to say they were related to:Event 18 WHEA-logger A fatal hardware error has occurred.

My computer will randomly reset itself and reboot from DOS and back to windows again. These intervals would range from 5 mins from startup to 3 hours or more so they are completely random. This has been happening for 1 year now. Recently the intervals have been getting shorter and shorter to the point where my computer will reset upon 2-5 min of start up after hitting windows guaranteed. I get no error messages or indications that it is about to happen. Normally I'd jump on the overheating bandwagon but the strange thing is, my computer does not reset ever if I am playing a graphics intensive Video Game (battlefield 3 to name one).
It only resets if I'm not really doing anything intensive such as word processing or browsing the web or watching a movie. All these simple tasks will cause my computer to reset after a random time period. Anything where my CPU/GPU churns into motion prevents these resets. This I cannot explain. A problem which also happens (and I feel might be related to cause this) is that if I ever shutdown my computer, it will not boot (windows cannot load). And I have to system restore to get my computer to run again. So I have never hit the shutdown button in a long time.
In the past perhaps month or two, my computer has started crashing. It happens on start-up after the computer has been off for more than a few hours- about 3 minutes after launch, it freezes- screen first, and then the audio seems to continue briefly before going silent, or looping the last few seconds of sound. After a hard reset, I can start in normal mode and everything is fine- no more crashes, until the next time I shut down/start up (normally this is happening each morning after I have shut down the night before).I read through some info I was able to find on here and (techsupportforum)- I have checked the action center, and there is an entry for each hard reset, "Kernel-Power Event ID 41 Task Category (63)". I have read that this does not actually indicate anything but that I had to do a hard reset. The recurring issues/suggestions I have seen consist of 3 thoughts: 1. PSU is dying, 2. video card or processor are overheating, or 3. multiple audio drivers. I know my video card does run warm, but it isn't into critical temperatures (I have installed an application to monitor the temperature, which I will run from time to time- especially while running illustrator/photoshop/dreamweaver simultaneously, or while playing graphics-intense games [rift, e.g.]). The PSU could be it but I'd rather check on the audio driver situation first.

Under "System Devices", there is an entry called "High Definition Audio Controller". Is this a conflict? Also, when I go to Volume Control Options from the task bar, "Sound devices" lists:Headphones, Speakers, and then two different entries for "Digital Audio (S/PDIF).I really have no idea what the issue is, but it is getting frustrating, and I feel like the audio scenario is the most likely.

I recently purchased a 3Tb internal HDD, and wish to create the following setup:
3Tb internal HDD (C Drive) - contains the 250 and 360 GB HDD's cloned onto it. 250 and 360 Gb HDD's - Completely wiped and used for backup and storage.
I would also like the 250 and 360 Gb HDD's to be recognised seperately, AS IF they were seperate drives, while remaining on the same 3Tb HDD.
I can only use free software. I also do not want a RAID setup.
I just got a new computer, new hard drive and everything. I attempted to install Windows 7 (full version, NOT an upgrade) by putting the disc in, starting the computer, and booting from the BIOS. The monitor shows a bar that says that the Windows files are loading. Then it displays the little Windows logo. And finally it comes to a blue-ish screen with a bird on it (which I have been told is the sign-on screen) with a cursor. Nothing else. I've tried pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE and running Safe Mode. Nothing works.
I have heard that the solution might have something to do with putting certain drivers onto a flash drive. Is that true? If so, um... explain. If not, explain that too.
What all is involved in loading Windows 7 on a new, blank drive from an Update disk?'ve got 2 computers to upgrade and am about to build a third one, so I'd like to get the Family Pack, which has retail licenses instead of OEM, but how hard will it be to use that on the new pc build?

For the past two months it has had issues with programs hanging for 1-3 minutes then quickly responding again. About a week ago the laptop began to freeze and wouldn't come back and would required a hard restart. I decided to make use of my warranty and took it into a geek squad store. They told me they ran chkdsk and "other" tests to check the HDD and it passed all the tests and they couldn't "Replicate" the problem. So, I took the laptop back and it's still hanging/freezing. Whats the best way to go about diagnosing this?

Is there a way to make windows automatically choose "start windows normally" in the case of hard resets? I have a USB monitor hooked to the system and it does not turn on until Windows loads. but if I hard reset by accident or some other reason I can't see the screen that asks what you want to do, this only can be seen when vga/dvi is connected. I know there is a timer for the start normally, but wanted to know if there was a way to make windows not even have to ask and just know to start normally?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can run World of Warcraft and Battlefield 3 at max settings and NOTHING happens. Runs like a dream. However if I play any over games such as Skyrim or the Witcher 2 my computer will completely crash to a black screen and then a weird buzzing noise which lasts 1-2 seconds. It will then require a hard reset.
This crash only happens when I play video games and it seems adjusting the settings doesn't seem to change anything. High or low settings it will still crash. I have ruled out Temperature I think. At it's hottest my GPU will be at about 55C.
