View 1 RepliesI have a Vista SP2 laptop that I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 7. However when I pop in the disk and boot to the disk, the files load. But then the screen with the cursor where you should be able to select the keyboard language and the setup screen doesn't appear. All I get is a black screen with the cursor I can move. Also the install failed out the first time due to amd manager installed, so I uninstalled it and now every time I try to boot back to vista it says some amdsata.sys error message.

The screen becomes white and after 5-10 minutes, the screen vibrates and directly windows 7 opening screen appears. Fortunately no display problem is appeared throughout the day until shut down
View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing the Windows 7 DVD that came with the machine I went through the repair Windows procedure 3 times. The first time it searched for restore points of which there are none because the machine has Rollback Rx installed instead. It then restarted with no change. I went through the same process but this time it said it had repaired Windows however; restarting gave me the same missing OS message. On the 3rd attempt it displayed the restored OS as being on D:. I ran the diagnostic tool and it said no errors were found. Restarting gave the same error.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought my Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop, windows 7, intel i3 core processor about 3 weeks ago, and it ran perfectly, handled all my ridiculous multitasking well, and was really light compared to others I've had. This morning my nephew was using it to play Skyrim (I digress, sometimes I sneak onto his game files for a little fun) and....well he has some anger issues, but that's not what this is about. Something upset him and he slammed the lower left side of the laptop pretty dern hard. Nothing broke on the outside, but suddenly the computer became unresponsive, and I had to force shut down the whole thing. When it started back up it wouldn't....start back up. I got an error message saying "Windows could not start successfully, we recommend you launch startup repair to try and fix the problem. Well I did that about 2 dozen times in a row with failures each time, till finally, much to my joy, it successfully started back up. Except now whenever I try to open a new program, it sometimes has periods of unresponsiveness, and some things like Skyrim can't be opened at all.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying, for the last 2 days, to install Win 7 (64 bit) to my Dell XPS 720. I performed the pre-install check and it reported no problems. As I was going from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit I knew I would have to perform a clean install.
I have installed about 6 times over the last couple of days and the system seems fine for maybe 20 minutes at which point one of two things happens. either
1. it reboots after a brief blue screen message regarding BAD_POOL_HEADER (too quick to read)
2. it hangs and performs a dump with a BSOD regarding NVSTOR.SYS
I'm assuming that the problem is with the NVSTOR.SYS driver(s) for the motherboard NVIDIA RAID arrays. I have 4 disks in 2 RAID 0 arrays of a 1TB each.
Dell does not list the PC as Win 7 compatible and there are no Windows 7 64 bit RAID drivers listed although it does list Vista 64 bit drivers as a download. I have tried these but Windows 7 doesn't seem to want to update the driver saying I already have the latest drivers installed (from the Windows 7 DVD).
Anyone else had this problem and been able to cure it. I'm writing this from the PC with the 32 bit version installed and working fine. I need 64 bit to address the 8gb of memory for some very intensive video and photoshop work I do.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIt seems some others are having a similar problem but thought I had to start my own post,Yesterday and this morning my pc refuses to boot initially. Sometimes it goes to the POST and stops there, sometimes to the windows 7 screen and stops there. I managed to start in safe mode but the only thing odd in there was 'C: was ok, A: (floppy) ok, D: was renamed 'F' and E: was ok (I have a TSSTcorp DVD drive and a Lite-On lightscribe drive).

Startup repair does not fix it, I have tried several system restore points none of which work (error 0X8000ffff), and the last known configuration is not working either. I can get into the safe mode menu but when I try to go into safe mode I get the Windows failed to start.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows XP 7 on a HP EliteBook 8440p laptopI installed three updates, including the latest Windows 7 Service Pack and now my computer will not start up again. The Startup Repair tool is detecting no errors. The system restore tool warns me that my diagnostic power is low and a restore can not be reversed. I ran a chk dsk and no errors were found and fixed there either.

Dell Inspiron 531s
Windows 7 32-bit
Power Supply Unit: 250w
1 PCI-Express slot
Current Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
(motherboard gpu)
Here is the GPU I'm looking at:
Newegg.com - SPARKLE SFPX95GT512U2L GeForce 9500 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
I am concerned about the weak power supply and the motherboard GPU interfering.
Should I be considering a external power booster?
I would love to hear your suggestions.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1440 running windows 7. This computer was purchased new about a year and a half ago, and I have had no problems up until a couple days ago. I went to turn my laptop on the other morning and as usual the dell logo came up and loaded, then the windows symbol saying "starting windows"... then strangely a black screen with a cursor arrow... nothing more, no log in screen... just black nothingness... I have ran the diognostics and they all say "pass". I am able to access F2 & F12 but it will not boot in safe mode or with a command prompt.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 700m. I can't find a video (graphic) driver for it. I went to Dell support website but can't find the right driver. I understand Dell doesn't support this model for Vista or Windows 7. I even google for the driver. Quite a few people have the same problem. Do you happen to know a driver to take its place? I went to Device Manager and it shows that I'm missing the Video Controller.
