Computer Won't Start?
Nov 22, 2011
So last night I came back from going out. My computer was making an annoying noise, really hard to explain almost like a sound when your hard drive is overworking or really old.... My computer isn't even a half year old. I was to tired to try anything so i just hit the turn off buttonI had to go to work early this morning so I just got home. I tried turnning it on this afternoon, it didn't normally. Gave me an option to start normally or safe mode. I tried to start normally. Windows started and then just froze. Keep in mind the Hard drive or w/e is making this noise still while trying to start windows. So since that didn't work I tried to start in safe mode. This didnt' work either and gave me the message about my SATAo drive or something not working properly

When i got home today didn't my computer work, my girlfriend has been the last one using it. So don't know how things were just before the shutdown or anything.when i turn on the computer i get to the screen where "touch bios" is and where i can see the options like Bios settings, boot menu, xpress recovery.but i cant press anything, and after about two seconds on that screen the PC shuts down again. The keyword lights up so there is a responds on it, but just doesn't work to press anything before it shuts down.I've got BSOD upto several times a day for a few months time.believe that my computer is affected by some virus or something is delaying my computer. might be an combination of several things.I got no external things hugged up to the stationeer computer right now.it is a windows 7 x64 machine.
usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.

Sometimes when I click start and sleep on my computer (windows 7) the monitor will go to sleep but the computer is still running. I cannot wake my monitor up so there is nothing I can do to wake it up besides manually turning it off using the button on the computer case.

I'm having some trouble starting my computer (posting from somewhere else). When I try to start it, it takes a long time then goes to a screen asking me to start the startup repair. When I do, it just seems to be frozen on some of the screens for a very long time and has never moved past it.

i hope i'm placing this in the right section, if not, then could someone tell me where to put it and i'll post it again.i've got a samsung rv510 laptop with windows 7 hp 64 bit.about 2 weeks ago, i was watching a Internet video, had spotify and facebook open too, and my computer suddenly went all bsod on me.i turned it off and on again. it came up with a message like 'a problem has occurred whilst loading up your computer, what would you like to do?' i chose 'launch startup repair', which takes a couple seconds, then i choose the other option of 'start windows normally'. i could get onto safe mode. sometimes it would say 'operating system not found.'the computer will then load normally and i can be on it fine.however, i then started to get norton confidential and shockwave flash crashes in google chrome. i disabled norton confidential and thus didn't get that error anymore. shockwave flash however did still occur as disabling it means i can't watch Internet videos and do some other stuff. sometimes my screen would go blank, and it looks like chrome refreshed itself due to some problem.i then used norton power eraser (i have norton internet security 2011 otherwise, and i did many live updates and scans to see if there was anything there, but nothing) to see if there were any problems. it came up with one file that was a possible threat which was msvcrt.dll so i did as it recommended and deleted it. i restarted the computer and now i can't it won't go past the windows logo without freezing.i had some start-up error in the past (a few months ago) and i was sent two cds to correct the problem and they worked. one cd was labelled 'windows 7 hp 64bit' and the other was 'samsung rv510 driver disc'. i got this laptop, via the disability students allowance, from a company. i haven't contacted the company yet about this problem, but i will be doing so very shortly, because if all else fails, i'm just going to try and get this laptop replaced as i'm not 100% happy with it.i have put in both cds in, the driver one doesn't do anything, but the windows 7 hp 64bit one does. it asks me if i want to continue with the thingy, so i press a button to continue. it tries to fix the start-up, but fails. it says that 'a recent hardware or software change might be the cause'. then tells me to insert the installation disc and do some other things, but i don't have that disc. the company could give that to me.

I have Windows 7 64 bit on my desktop and an OCZ Vertex SSD Boot Drive (C:) my computer has a second hard drive (1tb Samsung Spinpoint F3) for other files. My HDD has two partitions and one of them had Ubuntu on it. I decided to format that partition the other day so I could have access to it (I needed the space). Turns out I formatted the grub launcher from there and now have no way to boot my windows installation. I've tried Startup Repair.

My problem is the system goes through regular BIOS Startup, and shows everything as working, then when it gets to the windows startup screen (where the 4 colored dots turn into the windows symbol), it does one of two things:
1. it just keeps waving there (you know how the colors kind of come out and in etc.)
2. it goes to a black screen, and none of my inputs work (ie. no keyboard mouse, ctrl+alt+del, anything)
The only way to get out of these two situations is to reset directly on the case.
Sometimes it will not go to the startup screen, and will give me the option of "launch startup repair" or "start windows normally". If I choose start windows normally, it goes to one of the top two problems, if i choose startup repair, it begins loading windows files, then the bar stops halfway (and doesnt move for over 8 hours).
The last thing i tried was starting from my windows 7 dvd, and that also begins loading files, then stops halfway.

i downloaded Comodo CIS yesterday (after uninstalling Avira) with no problems, but this morning my Acer One d270 was unable to start giving a black screen, and i clicked enter on the option to use ''Start up repair'', which only seemed to show the following 'Unspecified change to system configuration may have caused the problem error code = ox490' I managed to start in normal mode in the end and everything seem to be working ok as far as speed etc gos. I installed the VMware - Toolwiz Timefreeze, a couple of days ago. Before that i installed Sandboxie, but then uninstalled after it caused BSOD which according to the dump file was caused by the Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows 7(R) file - igdkmd32.sys.I noticed that for sometime before the latest downloads that when running windows ''fix problems'', that it says i have too many programs running on start up ,so today i disabled, adobe reader + acrobat, google update , and toolwiz so they are not running on start up. I also have Rapport installed and running but its not showing in msconfig start up list so not sure about it. I'm assuming Word, excel, ccleaner, glary utilities, are not running on start up but dont know how to check!

With Sandy visit in my area, I've lost power couple of times with the computer being on. It had no issues starting it up, other than Windows complaining about not being shut down gracefully. While I have had power for the last 4-5 days, yesterday the utility power went out with a big boom. I have the generator running and now the computer does not start at all. The LED light is on for the motherboard, indicating that the power is on for the board. Pushing the power on button results in nothing, the system does not start up.

I have an HP dv6 notebook with Windows 7 64 bit home premium edition. When I start up, my computer freezes. I have to log off then log back on to do anything. All updates and drivers are current. The only seems to be is with the virtual wi-fi adapter. I can't find a trusted site to download one. The device manager says everything is working properly.

So whenever I start up my computer, I get a black screen with this message at the top left corner...Setting up personalized settings for:C:windowssystem32driverssvhost.exe s'm posting from my phone right now. I did a search on the issue and concluded that it must be a virus. However, all the suggestions I've seen have said to download so-and-so program. Well I can't exactly do that because it seems to be stuck on here.I've been waiting for several hours for it to go away so I don't think it's going

i don't know much about computers, but i also can't download in safemode with the tool that was offered by this site so i'm not sure what all i should be includingi have an hp pavilion g7-1219wm notebook with windows 7. maybe about a month ago or a bit longer, the computer froze up while i was watching a movie on netflix. for a few days then, it'd been going slow and freezing momentarily but this time it would freeze for long periods of time and a few times i shut it off by holding down the power button (which i know you aren't supposed to do, stupid me) then when it wouldn't restart, at all.i did a recovery and re-installed most of what was in windows updates (except for two/three which refuse to install) but all of a sudden, it began freezing again. when i attempt to start normally, it seems fine - for under five minutes then everything freezes. i can move the mouse around but that's the only thing i can do. i've been using it fine in safe mode with networking thinking this month, we'd be able to get it fixed but that's not happening and to top it off, it's begun to freeze even in safe mode with networking

I was watching netflix when randomly the internet window closed and ventrilo closed in the background. Then the computer shut off, much like if you restart the computer and the windows close. This time though it did not ask me to close any of them before it shut off. Then when I went to reboot my computer it got past the bios and some intro screens but then just got hung up on a black screen with a blinking cursor. It never reached the boot menu. It is seven 32 bit.

I have a samsung laptop, and run with Windows Seven. About a month ago my problem started. My computer will freeze and require me to manually shut it off and restart. At first it happened infrequently, but as of yesterday it freezes right after it starts up. I run spy-bot search and destroy, which I did using the guest profile. It found and fixed about 62 problems. I hoped that would have fixed the problem, but unfortunately it hasn't. Right now I am operating in safe mode.

I have a desktop computer AMD 3.0 ghz dual core processor, 4gb ram, win7 ultimate(legit), 1 TB HDD(new) and an asus m2n-mx se plus motherboard. every time I turn my machine on, it goes through the POST and finishes boot up sequences and then start to load windows. Some times it finishes and I get to my desktop while other times It reboots only seconds into the win7 loading procedures. this has happened for quite a while and I am beside myself for an answer. I have even flashed the ROM to update that. I have unhooked all drives except for one. I have even unhooked the DVD drive to eliminate that. still the problem is here. the only thing that I havent replaced yet is the motherboard, which I may do and get another video card and run dual video cards but I need this gremlin gone.

Basically, my computer fails so start-up sometimes (My motherboard produces a long beeep sound. GPU not running at all, but the rest of the components seems to be running - eg. USB, Ethernet etc). Also, it will sometimes freeze while running some basic programs which are not really RAM or GPU demanding such as web browsers. Finally, BSOD whenever I'm running some graphically intensive games (which theoretically, my computer should be able to handle.I've ran memtest86 for each of my ram and there were no signs of any ram defunct. Therefore, I'm speculating that the problem is either the GPU, CPU or the Motherboard itself. However, I'm not sure which one should I change. I've attached my 3 dump files, all of which seems to point to different sources of error.[CODE]

My computer was operating on battery, without warning the battery died. After plugging the computer to power and turning it back on, it takes me directly to:"Startup Repair" "Your computer was unable to start Startup Repair is checking your system for problems If problems are found, start up repair will fix them automatically. Your computer might restart several times during this process. No changes will be made to your personal files or information. This might take several minutes." Followed by a loading bar that says searching for problems. After leaving this on for a while it gives the system restore option, however this just takes me back to the previous screen. I cannot cancel the Start up repair and I can't access safemode. After searching for over an hour the only solution i've found so far is reinstall the OS, however my computer did not come with the OS disc

as the title says, I was just talking with some friends on skype and then the computer froze like when it's going to give you a BSOD but instead of that it just froze, so I turned it off and now the computer won't even show BIOS menu. RAMs are fine, they were tested by the retailers for 48 hours with memtest and tested by me for 24 hours (when the computer used to work). So to give you a clearly idea of what's happening, I press the power on button, there's a beep and the computer starts, right? my pc powers up but it never beeps, the CD/DVD reader works, the processor starts up, but it's just stuck there. I checked on the motherboard's user guide and it doesn't say anything about "not beeping"

Is it possible to remotely power up a computer from another computer that is off site? What I would like to do is be able to access my home desktop computer (not built yet but will probably use Windows 7 Home Premium) from my notebook (Windows 7 Home Premium) when I'm away from home. I could leave the computer running (something I'm not not comfortable doing when I'm gone for more than a day) but we get occasional power outages that could shut down the computer. A UPS that could safely shut down the computer and, maybe restart it when power is restored (if they can do that) is not in my plans right now due to a lack of space and $$$ but I won't rule it out eventually.

Yesterday I was using my laptop as normal and suddenly the internet disconnected, and then refused to reconnect. I tried to troubleshoot in Network and Sharing Centre but nothing came up, so I restarted to see if this helped. After restarting the internet still wasn't working (I have a wireless connection) so I thought the problem may have been due to a system update that was installed that morning, so I did a system restore to that point. However, upon restarting, the computer stopped on a black screen.I then turned the laptop off at the switch and back on again, however the computer got to the stage that the log-in screen should come up and remained black. Now, whenever I try to turn the computer on, it gets to just before the log-in screen and remains black (however the mouse remains on screen and can be moved) - also, Safe Mode doesn't start either and stops at a black screen shortly after I choose to start it.

I recently built a computer- cpu, i5 750, mobo, P55A-UD5, 4gb of g.skill eco, a second 9800GT to compliment my first one and a new seasonic x-series 750W, running windows 7 ultimate 64bit. I have built quite a few computers but with this one all the right drivers are installed but every time i shut down my computer for the night and get back on it in the morning instant BSOD every time i start it up. Then when i restart it it BSOD again, and again and again until i go into bios and load fai safe defaults even though it is on the default settings or if i remove one of the graphics cards when setting failsafe defaults doesn't work.
then eventually it will start again with out BSOD till the next morning. Now i have a slight feeling it could be the graphics. I have tested my HDD's and my ram. The thing with the graphics cards is that i've had the first one an MSI one for a few years it uses a 6pin mobo connector and has slightly higher clocks compared to my xfx one but the xfx one doesn't have a power connector (i think its a newer design) it also has lower clocks.
I don't know if it is the graphics cards or the drivers that are having issues it seems that if i remove one of the cards (the xfx one) windows will boot fine then i can whack it back in and do some gaming. Another thing might be the ram it is that new eco stuff from g.skill that uses 1.35v but my mobo doesn't like that so it puts it to 1.5v, but i'm am not sure. If you need any of the report files from windows just say. the graphics drivers i'm using for sli were the 196.21 nforce windows 7 64 bit drivers.
