Diskpart Failing To Format Drive
Mar 8, 2012
I have an HP xw8600 on which I am trying to install and format raid 0. My boot drive and OS use the on board controller. This raid is on a 3rd party card (3 Ware 9550SXU-12). I am using this board for its supposed speed over my on board LSI controller, which is capable of raid with only 2 ports. I have used the Bios level utility from 3 Ware to set up the array of 2 Samsung 103F3 1 TB drives in raid 0. The 3 Ware utility says these are now 'exportable' meaning available to Win for formatting.I go to Diskpart, making sure I am an administrator, and can view, select and partition the drives. When I go to format however I get and error message that the format has failed. I checked the system event log and it says: ChipStatus=16807000 (PCI parity error) The event log mentions that it was the 3 Ware that generated it. The drivers for this board are loaded and under device manager it functions normally. I have seen some posts that say this might be a driver error. I have the latest 64 bit driver for this board.

I just put in a new second hard drive, but my machine won't start into windows anymore (win7 64-bit sp1). I just have a black screen after boot with a blinking cursor top left corner and the HD led on the pc is on permanently. So I decided to pop in the installation dvd and was able to get into recovery environment. Launched the command window and diskpart, but DP lists no drives or volumes.
When I take the new disk out, the system boots up normally. I can see where this is going, so is there anyway to use the recovery environment to scan the drive for errors? Chkdsk doesn't work cos no drives are present, supposedly. Can I manually mount a drive? Unfortunately I don't have an external hdd dock to stick the drive in.

My primary system drive where Windows 7 is installed is a: WD 7K 16M SATA2 WD3200AAKS HD 320G - OEM. Long version (feel free to scroll down to short version): Yesterday, I came back to my computer, and all of my applications and desktop were frozen, but I could move the mouse. When I clicked on a window, the cursor would turn to the blue spinning thing, and the window would eventually say not responding and turn a lighter shade of white. I couldn't click on the desktop of the start menu, so I did a hard reset. The computer then wouldn't pass the black "starting windows" screen. I did another hard reset, and it asked me if I wanted windows to try to repair start up. Soon after that, it asked if I wanted to restore windows, but when I clicked OK, I got what looked to me to be a memory error. Then startup repair seemed to do nothing for a few hours, till I got impatient and restarted the computer. I was able to get into Windows, and I scheduled a memory test, and reset the computer. Memory test ran and found no problems. I restarted and Windows loaded, but soon after my computer was laggy and the programs were freezing. So then I thought it may be a HDD issue, so I scheduled to run check disk on that drive, and reset. Check Disk found corrupt files and bad sectors. After that, I was able to load Windows normally, but when I tried to open MC7 for "Live TV", it wouldn't pass the searching for tuner stage, so I closed out MC7, and got an error message in the action center. So I ran chkdsk again. This time, windows wouldn't load after restart, so I went back into repair startup, and it seemed to have found the error really fast, restarted and everything seemed fine. I decided to run chkdsk one more time for good measure, and it had a couple more read errors and found more bad sectors. Now I have been running windows with no apparent issues yet.Short version, computer froze, ended up running chkdsk 3 times, had to repair start up, and now everything is OK for now, but obviously I'm worried about more harddrive failure. Here are my questions:
1)How troubling is this? Do I need a new harddrive ASAP, or can it run for years with a few bad sectors? Any further tests I could run?
2)If I am to get a new system drive, what should I get? All I have on it is windows and my programs. I have separate disks for data. I'm using roughly 32 GBs out of 298. Should I just try to get the same drive (same speed, same capacity), or is there a good upgrade and is it worth getting an upgrade (I don't need more space, but something that would help performance maybe?) or any good deals on sale now?
3) I bought my current (failing) HDD on 9/24/2008, and I'm pretty sure WD has 5 year limited warranty. Should I peruse that angle?
4)How should I got about moving/restoring this OS to the new drive?
4a) I have a half dozen Windows Image Backups saved. Should I just use an old one from before the failure, or should I try to create a new one now, even though the disk may be corrupt?
4b)Or is there a better program to be using than Windows backup and restore?

After i bought it i read tons of reviews about it failing or having issues right from the start,, Mine has worked flawlessly so far however its only been a little over a month or two since i got it. Just yesterday i started having issues where on boot up it freezes just before or right after it finds the SSD drive.Something locked up yesterday and i had no choice but to do a hard power off, Right after that one of my other drives was showing as dirty. I scanned it and had windows fix any issues with it and everything seemed fine for about 5hours or so till my system again froze then would not boot because it was not finding the SSD drive. I took the side off my case and checked that the sata connections were good then started back up and everything was fine again for maybe another hour. Then my IE froze and my desktop went solid white and i got some kind of security error when i hit Ctrl + Alt + Del that told me to either use the esc key or to use the power button to shut down,,, esc did nothing but the power button killed it QUICK! This time i took the side off my case again and eliminated all but the SSD drive and have been fine now for about another 3-4 hrs. So anyhow what im wondering is if there is a SSD drive utility that will scan my drive and check it for issues? I have read not to use defragmenter on my SSD drive and i never have but what about windows chkdsk or maybe Tune up utillities drive check?

I have a toshiba hard drive in my laptop that Windows 7 says "Windows detected a hard disk problem." I've backed up my personal files, and now I'm trying to figure out if it can be repaired or if I'm going to have to buy a new hard drive. I tried to run the Toshiba hard drive diagnostic, but the tool isn't allowing me to select my drive and can't run without being able to do that, even though it is my only hard drive. I've checked for viruses and malware, and it says there are none. I've defraged as well

I have an external 2Tb hard disk that's gone bad. It is under warranty so I can return it back. I was trying to wipe it clean and erroneously ran "diskpart clean" instead of "diskpart clean all". Now that all partitions are all gone, my laptop won't recognize it anymore. It shows up as "unknown", "not initiated" & "unallocated" on disk management. Trying to initialize the disk gives the error "the device cannot find the sector requested". There's no drive letter. Diskpart doesn't list its volume but lists the disk. It is listed under disk drives on device manager and device status says "This device is working properly". Is there anyway to run "diskpart clean all" now? I guess a disk's volume needs to be selected before diskpart clean all" is executed.

I'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate x86 on an HP 430 laptop. The Windows installer can't find the laptop's hard drive so (as a solution I found while googling) I tried Diskpart's clean and clean all functions. The clean function finished quickly but the clean all has been going on for more than 24 hours now. Is it supposed to take this long? The laptop has a ~500gb hard drive and an i3 processor.

i was trying to read on how to create the BSOD dump file, but how i'm supposed to do that if i can't get into windows 7 to install that software or change anything? My system is complete unacessible. I was trying to recover one harddrive using a case and usb when i found a tutorial saying i should open prompt DOS and type commands: diskpart and rescan but of course im not able to find that tutorial again it's sticky with my windows 7, i'm using dual boot windows xp x64 here now, and the windows 7 crashed after that rescan command, i tried the recovery options and chkdsk it did not fix the problem, i'm thinking as last option to create a triple boot shrink the windows 7 to install another and copy all to there 0x0000007B 0xfffff880009a97e8

I am trying to do a Windows 7 reinstall from my Samsung Recovery disk, as I have a Samsung laptop. I have received the infamous "windows could not format a partition on disk 0...Error code: 0x80070057" error. Through researching this forum it seems the diskpart program is used to troubleshoot. However, the program only displays English from the command lines or numbers (i.e. - 465 GB).Everything else is displayed as Chinese or Japanese characters. Is there a way to change the language to all English?

My system got infected with some kind of virus, which severely slowed down the PC and caused me a lot of frustration. So I simply installed Win 7 on my H: drive. Now I want to completely format the C: drive, the location of the previous Win 7 install. During the install itself, for some reason there was no option to format the C: drive and re-install the windows there. And now that I'm trying to format C: drive, I get an error message: 'Windows was unable to complete the format'.
How can I wipe clean the C: drive and keep it for general use, with the Win7 now on my H: drive?

I have a customer's laptop that will not start. Upon start up, it looks like bootmgr is corrupted or missing. I have managed to boot using a Windows 7 disc and get into the CMD promt. However, when I try to run "diskpart" it just gets stuck and will not give me a prompt to start erasing/formatting the drive(s). I have tried re-installing Win7, as well as tried repairing so that I could roll back the drive, and none of those work. This is an HP G72 laptop (Win7 - Core I-3).
