I'm trying to link two computers together (both on Windows 7 Pro) in a network for a small business environment. My software program is installed on both computers and I need for it to be able to be used simultaneously on both machines. Setting up a homegroup doesn't seem to allow this access.
View 3 RepliesI have a Windows XP desktop - wired to my Motorola router/modem from AT$T for a while. I been able to run a Vista Desktop and a Windows 7 Premium Home with no problem. I got the A V Guardonline spam ware. I was able to clean it up using Combo Fix and Malware Byte. After Combo Fix - at first I didn't an Internet connection. I had to go off. When I came back decided to check the Internet before I deleted the network driver. However, it turns out the Internet fine and I can still see and access my Vista computer on the network. However now the Windows XP Peer to Peer network doesn't see my Windows 7 laptop. The laptop and see the network and connect. However it can only see the vista desktop and not the Windows XP and even though it connects no Internet access. In network and sharing it shows unidentified network public. I think this should be set to HOME. How can I do this? I have Windows 7 Premium so I can't use secpol.msc. What to do? I have turned off all feature or services with the Home Group. My IP address is 169.254.141.68. I know that means I not getting a valid IP address. Also when I on Windows 7 laptop in network and sharing - I connect to my network - it sees it but then says it can't connect but when I check it is connected. It sending and receiving bytes but it can't ping or see the router.

View 2 Replies View RelatedBeing somewhat bored I began playing around with Homegroups. I delved into HG awhile back but never really got into it. To make a long story short I can't start the service 'Peer Name Resolution Protocol' which is required for HG. There are 3 Peer type services. One is started (Peer Networking Identity Manager). The other one (Peer Networking Grouping) is not because it depends on 'Peer Name Resolution Protocol.' Both Homegroup services are started and I have IPV6 enabled on my NIC and in the LAN properties. Also the last time I played around with HG it seemed I needed the MS Firewall service started which it is. The event log has this: 'The Peer Name Resolution Protocol cloud did not start because the creation of the default identity failed with error code: 0x80630801.

I have set up a Personal VPN on my new Windows 7 laptop to use when I'm on public wi-fi. The thing I don't know how to do is to put a shortcut to the "Connect to a Network" on the desktop so I can more easily access this connection. As it is now, I have to go to the start menu -> control panel -> network and sharing center, and connect from there.
This used to be a breeze in WinXP.
I've been wracking my brains, but cannot make this work in windows 7. It was super easy in xp. How can I set up 2 computers to share folders? I've created a homegroup, on both computers, but still they aren't communicating.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know this is an old post, but I am encountering the same problem and I can't connect to the internet.A few days ago, my network was connecting to it's normal name but later I was not able to connect because it is names "BLAH 2" I disabled it and my original one popped up again and it's fine.Now, I can't even disable and enable back to my original one. I've tried deleting it on that screen shot that was given and connecting again but still no luck.

When I click new folder either by right clicking or by hitting new folder the system then creates 2 or 3 new folders at one time. I then have to go back and delete the extra folders. At first I did not mind because it only happened once or twice and now it is every time.

Files get downloaded during the night on one computer and then need to be transfered to another. Usually I am doing this by hand, but then though maybe I could get the task scheduler to do it for me.I understand how to create a task, however I am having trouble with the action tab. I was thinking that I should start windows explorer (where is explorer located for win 7 x64 machines?) under the action tab, but once I do this I am not sure how to tell explorer to check the source folder, select all the files in it and then move it to the target folder.

The WinXP machine has a HP printer (hp PSC 2210) connected via USB. This printer is "shared" by the WinXP machine (shared as "hppsc220"). the WinXP machine uses a work-related domain name, and can't be changed. It's not on a "WORKGROUP". Both machines are on the same LAN, but aren't in the same workgroup/homegroup or domain.WinXP box is on 192.168.1.100 Windows 7 box has ip 192.168.1.6
I want to create a network printer on my new Windows 7 box for this printer. If I use "Add a Printer | Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth Printer", the Windows 7 box does not "see" this printer, even though it's shared. I assume because of the domain/group differences?I get a Error "Windows failed to connect to the printer" (operation failed with error 0x0000051f).
I would like to create a new user for programming purposes i.e the user will have access to computer resources only through applications I plan to write. Such a user should not be able to log in from main Win7 logon screen - in fact, the user should not even be listed on that page.

The built-in DVD Maker and Movie Maker work sometimes, they can't burn many types of files, and you ahve to go through a 2 hour burning process before you find out the DVD has no sound during playback!

SO now I want to create a system image on my external HD, so I can re-install Win7 Pro, and not use any partitions. WELL, when i try to create a system image on this external, which sez only needs 396 gig,Windows tell me the external doesn't have enuff space for the shadow volume? There is nothing ON this external. Has 434 of 465 gig free. SO why is that NOT enuff space?

System could not find file specified ( 0x80070002 ) close. Nothing else...how is one suppose to make sense of this? Does this mean i can never make an image file of my system? Prior to the backup, Win 7 said that it would check system to make sure its OK to make backup. After it did the checkup it gave me the go ahead to do it
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday I wanted to create a partition on my WD 3 tb hard drive, so i opened disk manager and shrunk the current partition creating unalcolated space when i right clicked on it to create the new partition all the options were greyed out so i use partition magic to create the partition shortly after BOSD with error 0x00000078 or 7b not sure happened too fast and i have no clue how to get my computer working again, start up recovery has proved useless. i tryed the drive on my old computr and it worked just fine the new partition was there and useable. so can someone please explain how to fix this or if thats not posable please explain a way to get the inportant data(pictures word documents ect.) off my computer so i can reset it to factory settings without looseing anything?

However, I find it runs fairly slowly so I intend to install XP on it from an old installation disc.However, when I first started my netbook I set up a partition with 40Gb allocated to the C drive and the remaining 240 to a D drive. Not being that computer savvy I got confused and despite having a portable hard drive for back up and the computer having a separate hidden restore partition, I went ahead with this.My question is that if I start again with XP can I reset the partition to a single C drive with separate restore area?

I would like to create a new partition for it so that it isn't on the same volume with my data files. I've done this often using 3rd party software but never using Windows 7 disk manager.
I have my D: drive backed up and will update it before I try anything but is this reasonably straight forward or are there pitfalls I should look out for?
I could always format the disk create the partition and then after installing Windows 8 restore all my data to D: again, but I'd like to keep it as simple as possible. There's over 500 gigs of stuff on my 1TB drive.

I was wondering if there was a way to create a partition for a recovery environment (just in case something happens). I have a system image of this pc saved, however I feel it would be best to also create a recovery partition.
Note: This does not have a CD drive.

This was recommended by inference by one of the gurus who responded to my questions.So I got the system up again and I needed to learn about system images. So I hit F1 and read about creating a system image. Clicked here, clicked there, specified by external hard drive and told it to only include my system drive C:. Whir, whir, whir . . .. system image created.Now, I've cleaned the system of any possible Malware, so I want to create a new image of my system drive. So, I click here, click there and specify my external hard drive but NOW it won't let me include only drive C:, it wants to include my data drive, E:. The check box for E: is greyed out so I can't uncheck it.

1. Can two accounts on the same PC have administrator privileges?
