Creating Shortcut To Connect To A Network
Dec 21, 2009
This is a really basic question -- I apologize in advance for my ignorance!
I have set up a Personal VPN on my new Windows 7 laptop to use when I'm on public wi-fi. The thing I don't know how to do is to put a shortcut to the "Connect to a Network" on the desktop so I can more easily access this connection. As it is now, I have to go to the start menu -> control panel -> network and sharing center, and connect from there.
This used to be a breeze in WinXP.

I'd like to make a desktop shortcut to connect my computer's audio to my Jaybird Freedom BT headset. Right now, I have to go through several windows to get to a "connect" button, when it really should just be a double-click on a "connect" shortcut. So far, my google searches have only turned up instructions on how to make a shortcut to "Bluetooth Devices" window, that shows your paired devices but does not have a "connect" option for them. So for my purposes that shortcut is useless.

I know this is an old post, but I am encountering the same problem and I can't connect to the internet.A few days ago, my network was connecting to it's normal name but later I was not able to connect because it is names "BLAH 2" I disabled it and my original one popped up again and it's fine. Now, I can't even disable and enable back to my original one. I've tried deleting it on that screen shot that was given and connecting again but still no luck.

Im currently having problems creating a new internet shortcut on windows 7. I have never had this problem before as i already have a number of different shortcuts for my favourite websites on my desktop. But, now when i try to create a shortcut an error comes up simply saying Explorer.exe Cannot create shortcut. The icon appears on my desktop, but when i click ok and cancel, another error box comes up saying "Item not found, could not find this item, This item is no longer located in c:, verify the items location and try again." I dont know whats suddenly caused it and i have tried a system restore but to no avail.

Can anyone advise how I would go about fixing this. I am trying to connect to a network (I have a dell running on windows 7) and it keeps telling me that windows is unable to connect to the network-this is before I can even enter the security key. I know it is not a problem with the wireless because other people are able to connect to it fine.

imple question: why does a shortcut to an exe on a network-drive display differently from one on my local drive? It's the same file, but the network ressource version looks FUBAR, while local version is pretty nice.Perhaps more to the point: any hints on changing it. The particular exe is compiled with an ico containing: 48x48 px, 32x32 px, 16x16 px (all in xp, hicolor, 16 colors). It looks like windows is displaying the 16x16 px version, and then resizing it, and perhaps adding a dash of ugly

Anyone has any idea how to create a direct shortcut that when I click on it - it will display the prompt where I click "connect" and get connected? Now I have to click on the icon next to the clock, then choose the connection, then click connect, then click connect in the prompt yet again. I used to have that shortcut right on the desktop on XP and it was so much more convenient.

Under computer I go to my drive of folders. When I click new folder either by right clicking or by hitting new folder the system then creates 2 or 3 new folders at one time. I then have to go back and delete the extra folders. At first I did not mind because it only happened once or twice and now it is every time.

i need to have a task run that will move the contents of a folder from one computer to another over my home LAN. Files get downloaded during the night on one computer and then need to be transfered to another. Usually I am doing this by hand, but then though maybe I could get the task scheduler to do it for me.I understand how to create a task, however I am having trouble with the action tab. I was thinking that I should start windows explorer (where is explorer located for win 7 x64 machines?) under the action tab, but once I do this I am not sure how to tell explorer to check the source folder, select all the files in it and then move it to the target folder.

I have a home network consisting of a company-issued WinXP Pro desktop (HP) and a personal Windows 7 Home Premium laptop (HP). The WinXP machine has a HP printer (hp PSC 2210) connected via USB. This printer is "shared" by the WinXP machine (shared as "hppsc220"). the WinXP machine uses a work-related domain name, and can't be changed. It's not on a "WORKGROUP". Both machines are on the same LAN, but aren't in the same workgroup/homegroup or domain.WinXP box is on 192.168.1.100 Windows 7 box has ip 192.168.1.6
I want to create a network printer on my new Windows 7 box for this printer. If I use "Add a Printer | Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth Printer", the Windows 7 box does not "see" this printer, even though it's shared. I assume because of the domain/group differences?I get a Error "Windows failed to connect to the printer" (operation failed with error 0x0000051f).

how do I find out my network password? or is there some other way to connect?I have been able to connect two PC's before with my friends Vista laptop and we usually just match up ip addresses and he puts in the network password and it works.I did the same thing with the windows 7 laptop and i can get to the network password stage, at which I do not know the password. All I know is that it isn't my log in password, my laptop's log in password, or my friends laptop password.

New Windows 7 Ultimate PC cannot connect to my home network or the internet for around 15-20 mins and then it will suddenly work. Windows reports 'No connections are available' and Occasionally jumps to 'identifying network' then back to 'No connections are available' until it gets a connection. Once connected everything works perfectly until i reboot the machine. The network connection is fine as other computers can connect quickly without problems through the same cable.

I have a hidden network but I have it so it auto-connects. But the problem is that whenever I log in it doesn't auto-connect. So I go in the list of networks, click "Other Network" and type in my SSID. It says it's connecting but then it says there was a problem connecting. So I troubleshoot and it troubleshoots and when its done it says there is a problem with my wireless adapter or access point and it fixed it and I have internet.

I have having recurring issues with either my browser or my network. Whenever I go to load a page, it tells me the dns cannot be found, which is strange because vuze and xbox live still work fine.I have this issue with any browser I've tried (IE, FF, GC; all most recent as far as I'm aware). I've tried restarting my router, adjusting the connection settings, winsock reset, reconnecting, and none of it seems to help.

I have plugged in my network cables, there is still a red cross on my network connection. I have tried the following:
1) change the cable
2) reinstall the network driver
LAN and wireless cannot work. Then, I go into Administrative Tools-> Services.I found that the Service "Network Location Awareness" is missing, I think this causes the problem.I want to ask, how can I add back this service to Services?
