View 5 RepliesUnder computer I go to my drive of folders. When I click new folder either by right clicking or by hitting new folder the system then creates 2 or 3 new folders at one time. I then have to go back and delete the extra folders. At first I did not mind because it only happened once or twice and now it is every time.

I have never had this problem before as i already have a number of different shortcuts for my favourite websites on my desktop. But, now when i try to create a shortcut an error comes up simply saying Explorer.exe Cannot create shortcut. The icon appears on my desktop, but when i click ok and cancel, another error box comes up saying "Item not found, could not find this item, This item is no longer located in c:, verify the items location and try again." I dont know whats suddenly caused it and i have tried a system restore but to no avail.

I have set up a Personal VPN on my new Windows 7 laptop to use when I'm on public wi-fi. The thing I don't know how to do is to put a shortcut to the "Connect to a Network" on the desktop so I can more easily access this connection. As it is now, I have to go to the start menu -> control panel -> network and sharing center, and connect from there.
This used to be a breeze in WinXP.
I'd like to make a desktop shortcut to connect my computer's audio to my Jaybird Freedom BT headset. Right now, I have to go through several windows to get to a "connect" button, when it really should just be a double-click on a "connect" shortcut. So far, my google searches have only turned up instructions on how to make a shortcut to "Bluetooth Devices" window, that shows your paired devices but does not have a "connect" option for them. So for my purposes that shortcut is useless.

I need to create shortcuts to all these images but I need the shortcut to be created in the same folder as the original image. How can I do this without selecting each file individually and creating the shortcut? I have tried using the search facility to identify all the jpgs but can only create shortcuts to the desktop this way.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running the 32 bit version of Windows 7 and it's fully up to date in terms of patches. This issue only affects libraries. The issue started out of the blue a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't installed any new software or changed any settings and I also tried using System Restore to go back to a couple of days before this issue started?
1. I go into my library called "Videos" and right-click and choose New - Folder. The new folder does not appear.
2. I either press F5 or right-click - refresh and then I can see the new folder I created.
3. I give the new folder a name, for example "test". The folder shows the name "test".
4. I rename the folder to something else, for example "renamedtest". The folder still shows the name as "test".
5. I either press F5 or right-click - refresh and then the folder name changes to "renamedtest".
Basically, any time I create a folder, rename a file or folder, delete a file/folder, move a file/folder etc. I do not see the effects of my actions until after I've manually refreshed. This only affects libraries.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo here's something weird. On a firends computer, he has a folder on the desktop that appears to be a duplicate of the users folder in the Users folder. It shows it's on the desktop when you open the Computer icon and in your browse window it's there. You can select it and it opens up and it's exactly the same as the user folder of the same name.
If you right click it, you don't reaaqlly get anything. It doesn't have a shortcut display either.If you look at the actual desktop, it's not there. Only in the browse window. I finally got fed up and just deleted it and it started deleting the same files in the user folder so I stopped.I would like to get rid of it but I don't know how

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was thinking of a way to make life easier on a computer, and I came up with a sort of multi-desktop system I would love to have on my computer. I know a bit about registry editing, but not enough to do this since it would probably require creating a small program. With a simple keyboard shortcut (I'm thinking of something like Shift+Windows), the computer would switch the registry value for the Desktop's folder location.The idea would be to have a small program where I can set up a list of locations and give them an order in which they would cycle through.As far as I can understand, just changing the registry value would not change anything until I logoff/restart, which implies that there has to be some sort of task running which refreshes the position? Now is the part where things might just be too complicated to be possible : ideally, it would be nice to have options to change the background image depending on the folder you are in and, if possible, have the name of the folder written somewhere on the screen (to avoid confusion and messyness).Now the coolest way to do this, according to me, would be to cycle through saved themes when you cycle through folders, which would allow to change window colors etc.I know this is something big and probably not easy to create, but the more I think about it, the more I love the idea... It would make life SO much easier and force people ho have ultra-messy desktops to be a bit more organized.

I need to access files (via Windows 7) that were saved in XP mode. To do this, I thought I would create a Windows Explorer shortcut in Windows 7 that pointed to the XP mode environment. The shortcut creation method doesn't seem to work for non-application shortcuts. How can I access (in Windows 7) or move files (to Windows 7) that are created in XP mode? But I would prefer to have just 'SED'. Any way to do this automatically?
I think it might matter that I do not hide extensions ['Hide extensions for known files' (Option in Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options... -> View)].
I have a fresh install of win 7 64 bit Home Premium. When I right click on a shortcut and open its properties dialog, the only tabs i get are "General", "Compatibility", "Security", "Details", and "Previous Versions", but no "Shortcut" tab. I have searched the Web and there are very few instances of this problem and no solution. I have tried everything I can think of with no success.

The built-in DVD Maker and Movie Maker work sometimes, they can't burn many types of files, and you ahve to go through a 2 hour burning process before you find out the DVD has no sound during playback!

SO now I want to create a system image on my external HD, so I can re-install Win7 Pro, and not use any partitions. WELL, when i try to create a system image on this external, which sez only needs 396 gig,Windows tell me the external doesn't have enuff space for the shadow volume? There is nothing ON this external. Has 434 of 465 gig free. SO why is that NOT enuff space?

System could not find file specified ( 0x80070002 ) close. Nothing else...how is one suppose to make sense of this? Does this mean i can never make an image file of my system? Prior to the backup, Win 7 said that it would check system to make sure its OK to make backup. After it did the checkup it gave me the go ahead to do it
