Sep 14, 2011I just got a new Samsung RC420 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium edition OS. When I was installing a software last night, a message pops up and tells me I cannot continue installation until I close a certain program (in this case it was Adobe Updater, which was not opened at all).Today, I am trying to open "my briefcase" from a USB thumb, but a message pops up telling me I cannot open "my briefcase" as it appears a file in it is already open. But nothing else is open on my computer. It was my first time opening anything from the USB thumb.

Sep 21, 2011I have written a batch file (e.g.aaa.bat) which can take several paramters and runs fine as long as I enter the start command at the command prompt e.gaaaa.bat -start -logIn order to avoid always having to enter manually this command I created a shortcut to this batch file and placed it in the SAME directory and added once the desired parameters. The shortcut properties look like now:Target: D:proj2 est2011aaaa.bat -start -logStart in: D:proj2est2011This works fine as well. Now the problem comes: I want to make these batch file and its shortcut portable.That means users should be abel to copy both files (batch + shortcut) on their computer in an indiviual different directory and be able to start the shortcutted batch file WITHOUT adjustments as well.
BUT this does not work because "Target" and "STarted in" most problably have a different path (e.g. C:evalproj ask23).My first approaches to solve this problems were to omit the path like in:Target: aaaa.bat -start -logStart in: .But this does not help. If I try to apply the settings above for the shortcut I got an error popup:"The name aaa.bat' specified in the target box is not valid"Hmm, how do I specify in the shortcut=SAME DIRECTORY AS CURRENT SHORTCUT FILE otherwise?

Jul 31, 2012I'm trying to move a file from my desktop to a folder on my Hard Drive (Internal) but everytime i attempt to do this it says, "Window's Can't Create a Shortcut here, do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?". Mar 16, 2011This bug been going on for a while, on my Windows 7 64bit. When I am done downloading anything through torrent (and no, I am talking legit files here), I can't move them to anywhere else, when I chose to cut them out and paste in new location it says it can't move the folder/file because it is open in another program. Only solution I found is to kill and restart explorer.exe, but program comes back after just a couple of minutes. Even if torrent program is closed as well.

"The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program..."
This is frequently caused by a Thumbs.db file, which I believe generates thumbnail images. Is there a way to prevent Windows from locking these files, so they can be moved, without disabling thumbnails completely as explained above?
No Network In Open File Or Folder Dialog
May 19, 2009My computer lets me browse the network just fine and even sees everything there is to see. However, when I want to say, mount a DVD from a networked computer for example, the Network icon is nowhere to be found on the Open File or Folder dialog window.
Going back to the root level (from the path bar in the very same window) lets me see all the usual stuff: drives, homegroup and such but once again, no network.
I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find any solution to this and it seems like a very silly thing to remove from the OS.
I hope it's just me being blind and I really appreciate any information you guys can share on this subject.
(Using Windows 7 RC1 64-bit, in the same network with two Vista 64 computers.)
Batch File Open For Program In Startup Folder
Jan 16, 2012I have a computer that is a drone specifically for an outside LED sign. This computer is designed to never shut off and doesn't have any other program on it besides Operating System and the sign software. I need to create a batch file that I can place in the "start-up" folder that will open the program (LEDStudio10) and open the file that I want to play. I have already tried multiple attempts and I was hoping someone out there in sevenforums world would be able to point me in the right direction.

Mar 19, 2011So here's something weird. On a firends computer, he has a folder on the desktop that appears to be a duplicate of the users folder in the Users folder. It shows it's on the desktop when you open the Computer icon and in your browse window it's there. You can select it and it opens up and it's exactly the same as the user folder of the same name.
If you right click it, you don't reaaqlly get anything. It doesn't have a shortcut display either.If you look at the actual desktop, it's not there. Only in the browse window. I finally got fed up and just deleted it and it started deleting the same files in the user folder so I stopped.I would like to get rid of it but I don't know how

Nov 10, 2012I was thinking of a way to make life easier on a computer, and I came up with a sort of multi-desktop system I would love to have on my computer. I know a bit about registry editing, but not enough to do this since it would probably require creating a small program. With a simple keyboard shortcut (I'm thinking of something like Shift+Windows), the computer would switch the registry value for the Desktop's folder location.The idea would be to have a small program where I can set up a list of locations and give them an order in which they would cycle through.As far as I can understand, just changing the registry value would not change anything until I logoff/restart, which implies that there has to be some sort of task running which refreshes the position? Now is the part where things might just be too complicated to be possible : ideally, it would be nice to have options to change the background image depending on the folder you are in and, if possible, have the name of the folder written somewhere on the screen (to avoid confusion and messyness).Now the coolest way to do this, according to me, would be to cycle through saved themes when you cycle through folders, which would allow to change window colors etc.I know this is something big and probably not easy to create, but the more I think about it, the more I love the idea... It would make life SO much easier and force people ho have ultra-messy desktops to be a bit more organized.
