OFTEN when I am working with windowz explorer I get a message that the selected action can't be performed because the folder/file is open in another program. RARELY is that the case. So what it the problem?
Delete, move, are the actions -- and i have no idea why the previous text is blue.
This bug been going on for a while, on my Windows 7 64bit. When I am done downloading anything through torrent (and no, I am talking legit files here), I can't move them to anywhere else, when I chose to cut them out and paste in new location it says it can't move the folder/file because it is open in another program. Only solution I found is to kill and restart explorer.exe, but program comes back after just a couple of minutes. Even if torrent program is closed as well.

This is frequently caused by a Thumbs.db file, which I believe generates thumbnail images. Is there a way to prevent Windows from locking these files, so they can be moved, without disabling thumbnails completely as explained above?
I have a computer that is a drone specifically for an outside LED sign. This computer is designed to never shut off and doesn't have any other program on it besides Operating System and the sign software. I need to create a batch file that I can place in the "start-up" folder that will open the program (LEDStudio10) and open the file that I want to play. I have already tried multiple attempts and I was hoping someone out there in sevenforums world would be able to point me in the right direction.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had an unusual happening on my PC. First noticed some instability while trying to open a file from Explorer, could not scroll down to file and it was jittery. Then, every time I tried to enter on an input line, an endless string of zeros were input and I could not overide or erase. Even on Email addressees. I tried a reboot and the zeros appeared on the start up password line and I could not logon. Same thing after complete power cycle. I suspected a stuck key on the keyboard and tried a different keyboard but no help. So I tried a complete restore. At first, it seemed to have the same problem, but somehow, eventually, I got logged on and now everything seems OK. But I don't really know what caused this and fear it could happen again.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 2 program folders listed as x86 on my 64 bit machine. This 2nd x86 program folder contains games that were downloaded and installed from Big Fish games (and those are the only programs that ever go into that 2nd x86 folder).
Other info (that may be important?): I recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. This 2nd 86x program folder was also on my Vista install. I upgraded using the method here to create the windows .old folder process... and that 2nd 86x folder installed into my C drive automatically. (I also used the HP upgrade assistant as directed by HP.
It really drives me crazy that I don't know why I have 2 of these folders. Doesn't seem to cause any issues at all, but wanted to get advice/opinion as to why I have 2 of these and if I'll ever run into issues because of it.
There is one specific folder in the Documents library, which when opened directly (like from a shortcut on the dekstop) only shows "corrupted" files with unusable strings for all file names and extensions.However, when opened in tree view, the files appear as they should. So at least it's reassuring that the folder contents are still there and can properly be read and changed. But the issue is still inconvenient and worrisome.I have already tried chkdsk /f on the partition and even mirrored the whole volume to a new harddrive, but that didn't help. I also tried copying the whole folder to another location, it shows up just fine that way as well.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI used to be able to open replays of a certain game (Warcraft 3) just by simply double clicking on them. I reinstalled Windows 7 2weeks ago, along with the game. Now when I double click them, it doesnt know what program to use --> I go through the standard "open with" and find my war3.exe. Now when I go to double click the replay file, it openes warcraft3 not the replay itself (like it used to, and like how I want it).
Ive done alot of digging around and trying to find how to fix it, but Im still unable to fix this. What I've found out that I basically need the replay files (.w3g) to open in E:Program filesWarcraft IIIwar3.exe -loadfile "%1"
The problem is, that with windows7 I am unable to find the place where I can insert this, all I was able to find was ways for XP/Vista but they are different from Windows 7.

You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I did a search but could not find anything related to this error in Win 7. View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I have run into a problem with W7. Every time the Open File dialog window opens, the window freezes, as does the program. It is becoming super annoying. I could live with it at first finding ways around it, but I have hit a roadblock in a few programs that require it. I have found several possible solutions but none have worked. No extra network drives attached or anything like that.
MSE is virus program running. I have tried disabling everything else using CCLeaner, but problem still persists. I could simply do a reformat but that is a PITA.
My computer lets me browse the network just fine and even sees everything there is to see. However, when I want to say, mount a DVD from a networked computer for example, the Network icon is nowhere to be found on the Open File or Folder dialog window.
Going back to the root level (from the path bar in the very same window) lets me see all the usual stuff: drives, homegroup and such but once again, no network.
I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find any solution to this and it seems like a very silly thing to remove from the OS.
I hope it's just me being blind and I really appreciate any information you guys can share on this subject.
(Using Windows 7 RC1 64-bit, in the same network with two Vista 64 computers.)
When we open our storage HD for media (flicks and TV) and other folders with files and or other folders inside the File FOLDER. the command bar shows a column for size, length, date, etc but it shows no information. Like, if I have a folder open with quite a few files in it and the file I want to double click to open is on the third row I'll go to double click but with the first click Explorer has scrolled along and the second click lands on a completely different file.

I could select it, click the Advanced button and add a program to that file type. I would add the phrase CommandPrompt connected to the program cmd.exe. This then would allow me to right click on a folder and open the DOS window at that location. A big time saver for the work I do. I cannot find how to do this in Windows 7.

When I look at the Download folder it shows an icon with correct title, but I can't see any files when I double click on it. This is not a "file folder" icon. I get an "Open file Security Warning" pop up. Shows run or cancel. Hit run it brings up "Win Zip Self Extractor" pop up. I have already supposedly unzipped this into the downloads. Have been through the issues of downloading Google Earth and think I have worked this out.
