With my folders I usually change the view options to "Details", and order either "alphabetically" or by "date modified" but when I restart these settings are not saved and I have to do it again.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I backup to an external USB drive, Explorer shows the 2 folders created (WindowsImageBackup and MYNAME-PC) as having 0 bytes, 0 files and 0 folders when right clicking those folders and looking at Properties.
Yet, if I right click the drive icon, Properties shows the drive with 15GB of used space.
Is this normal? I'm not using third party software for the backup.
You know how when you make changes inside a folder or any directory under windows 7 using explorer, updates, new files downloaded, any changes will reflect in that folder listing/view instanteously, without you having to hit the "refesh" button on the address bar to see what changes took place in that folder.My problem is with the new Fantom Drive ext USB HDD I bought. Anything I do inside that drives folder hiearchy of files. Like downloading new files from firefox, or unraring a bunch of archives; all changes will not show until I go manually hit the folder refresh button every time.Why is that not automatic? Like it is with my main internal C Drive, and my other ext usb LaCie HDD.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7.i copy entire flash drive to a folder (Call it "RemovableDrive" folder under My Document) from flash drive (USB).In "RemovableDrive", folder, I right click and select Properties, then I uncheck READ ONLY, and select Apply to set all files and folder/subfolders to uncheck READ ONLY.
In the "RemovableDrive" folder, I opened a file, and edit it. Then I try to save it.it would not let me. I also set the property of the file to READ ONLY, but still has the same problem.
I try to download a program (for instance u torrent) I dont ever get a dialog box with the run option in it. Instead I get a bar on the bottom of the screen that gives the options of "open", "save", or "cancel". When I click "open" nothing happens. When I click "save" a file is saved in my download folder by the name of "utorrent_exe" with no extention. When I try to run it I get a message that asks what program I want to run it with. Oh yeah, by the way, I am running Windows 7 Premium Home Edition.

View 0 Replies View RelatedThere is one specific folder in the Documents library, which when opened directly (like from a shortcut on the dekstop) only shows "corrupted" files with unusable strings for all file names and extensions.However, when opened in tree view, the files appear as they should. So at least it's reassuring that the folder contents are still there and can properly be read and changed. But the issue is still inconvenient and worrisome.I have already tried chkdsk /f on the partition and even mirrored the whole volume to a new harddrive, but that didn't help. I also tried copying the whole folder to another location, it shows up just fine that way as well.

Okay, have managed to tweak *most* of what I dislike about Windows 7,diabled libraries and favorites, turned off stupid giant icons and got Explorer view back to the Details/ Date Descending that I've been using since Win3.1 days. I've running Windows 7.I want to set the Windows Explorer view to permanently display the files in the "details" view. I can't seem to be able to achieve it.In XP it was just a case of setting the view to details and then choosing folder options on the menu bar and pressing the apply to all folders button. My problem is very simple; the little search box in folder view does nothing. Search from windows start menu works good, and WINDOWS+F also works.
The computer in question is a HP 2710p laptop with Win7 x64, and it works brilliantly. I'm assuming it has nothing to do with other software present, but Avast, Office, Matlab, SPSS, Teracopy, Tuneup Utilities, Dropbox, Winrar, and Steam are present.

1. Folder view in icon view
2. Icon positions and size
Is there anyway to do this with the desktop.ini file or some other permanent way? The DVD-ROM is being authored on a Mac, so a hidden file like desktop.ini would be the best option here.
My computer blue screened with an IRQL Driver not less or equal error, it's the second time its happened over a few weeks. Upon rebooting, my computer went into "preparing your desktop" and failed, and made a temporary profile.
