View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got a new Samsung RC420 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium edition OS. When I was installing a software last night, a message pops up and tells me I cannot continue installation until I close a certain program (in this case it was Adobe Updater, which was not opened at all).Today, I am trying to open "my briefcase" from a USB thumb, but a message pops up telling me I cannot open "my briefcase" as it appears a file in it is already open. But nothing else is open on my computer. It was my first time opening anything from the USB thumb.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo here's something weird. On a firends computer, he has a folder on the desktop that appears to be a duplicate of the users folder in the Users folder. It shows it's on the desktop when you open the Computer icon and in your browse window it's there. You can select it and it opens up and it's exactly the same as the user folder of the same name.
If you right click it, you don't reaaqlly get anything. It doesn't have a shortcut display either. If you look at the actual desktop, it's not there. Only in the browse window. I finally got fed up and just deleted it and it started deleting the same files in the user folder so I stopped.I would like to get rid of it but I don't know how

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was thinking of a way to make life easier on a computer, and I came up with a sort of multi-desktop system I would love to have on my computer. I know a bit about registry editing, but not enough to do this since it would probably require creating a small program. With a simple keyboard shortcut (I'm thinking of something like Shift+Windows), the computer would switch the registry value for the Desktop's folder location. The idea would be to have a small program where I can set up a list of locations and give them an order in which they would cycle through. As far as I can understand, just changing the registry value would not change anything until I logoff/restart, which implies that there has to be some sort of task running which refreshes the position? Now is the part where things might just be too complicated to be possible : ideally, it would be nice to have options to change the background image depending on the folder you are in and, if possible, have the name of the folder written somewhere on the screen (to avoid confusion and messyness). Now the coolest way to do this, according to me, would be to cycle through saved themes when you cycle through folders, which would allow to change window colors etc.I know this is something big and probably not easy to create, but the more I think about it, the more I love the idea... It would make life SO much easier and force people ho have ultra-messy desktops to be a bit more organized.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI am using Win 7 Pro, and Explorer 9 with Google. If I click on a link anywhere (in search results or a web page like this site) nothing happens. The only way I can open a link is to copy the shortcut and paste it in the address bar.I have Enable Tabbed Browsing checked.I have tried all of the Open links from other programs in.I searched here for this problem and found one, but it was for Win9 and the steps wouldn't work with my Win 7.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI have written a batch file (e.g.aaa.bat) which can take several paramters and runs fine as long as I enter the start command at the command prompt e.gaaaa.bat -start -logIn order to avoid always having to enter manually this command I created a shortcut to this batch file and placed it in the SAME directory and added once the desired parameters. The shortcut properties look like now:Target: D:proj2 est2011aaaa.bat -start -logStart in: D:proj2est2011This works fine as well. Now the problem comes: I want to make these batch file and its shortcut portable. That means users should be abel to copy both files (batch + shortcut) on their computer in an indiviual different directory and be able to start the shortcutted batch file WITHOUT adjustments as well.
BUT this does not work because "Target" and "STarted in" most problably have a different path (e.g. C:evalproj ask23).My first approaches to solve this problems were to omit the path like in:Target: aaaa.bat -start -logStart in: .But this does not help. If I try to apply the settings above for the shortcut I got an error popup:"The name aaa.bat' specified in the target box is not valid"Hmm, how do I specify in the shortcut=SAME DIRECTORY AS CURRENT SHORTCUT FILE otherwise?
I need to access files (via Windows 7) that were saved in XP mode. To do this, I thought I would create a Windows Explorer shortcut in Windows 7 that pointed to the XP mode environment. The shortcut creation method doesn't seem to work for non-application shortcuts. How can I access (in Windows 7) or move files (to Windows 7) that are created in XP mode? I have a Canon camera that uses an XP only utility to communicate with the camera. The files are moved from camera to XPM environment. I need to work with the files in Windows 7.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI had this problem a couple days ago. As the title says "I can't open any folder". I don't get any error message at all when I try opening the folder. I even tried "right-clicking then Open" and it still doesn't open. The only thing that when I try opening the folder is. The folder does appear at the bar on bottom of the screen flashing that it has opened but the window does not pop up. Also when I try clicking on the minimized folder on the bar (sorry I can't think of the name of the bar at the bottom of the screen). When I click it, I see the window flash by but it goes to the right side of the screen but it is not in view of the monitor screen. I also can't access My Computer,Downloads,Documents,or any type of folder. I also tried some registry fixes I found on google but no luck at all.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 x64Intel i7 860 Lynnfield4GB RAMI've got a .mkv file and a .nfo file in a folder with no other files or folders. On a clean boot, I've got ~2390MB of free memory. As soon as I open this folder, the memory in use begins to climb and within 60 seconds I've lost all of my free RAM. Once it maxes out, performance falls off a cliff and typically ends with me doing a hard reset.I used the resource monitor to track this, and the bizarre thing is there doesn't seem to be any process actually using up any memory. All of the processes listed there in the memory tab keep just about the same amount of memory in use (looking at committed, working, shareable and private). If windows boots in Safe Mode, the issue is not reproduced.I can open the video and the video plays.<edit>If I open the video from the recent history within the Media Player Classic, it will play and does not take up my memory</edit>What do you think?
