Creating A New User Without UI?

Jun 10, 2011

I would like to create a new user for programming purposes i.e the user will have access to computer resources only through applications I plan to write. Such a user should not be able to log in from main Win7 logon screen - in fact, the user should not even be listed on that page.

Creating & Managing A New User?

Jun 18, 2011

For the past 2 years or so, I've been using my laptop alone with just 1 user account ie my personal account. Now my dad has asked me to create an account for him on my laptop as well. Here are some questions which I hope are answered here.

1. Can two accounts on the same PC have administrator privileges?

2. How do I prevent my dad from viewing my personal files (docs, excel sheets, text files, etc.)

3. I have Google Chrome as my default browser and have all my passwords saved. Whenever I go to a website like SevenForums,Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo!, Google, etc., I am logged in. I don't wish to change these settings as I am pretty used to them now. Will my dad be able to access my accounts as well unless I don't remove my passwords from Chrome?

Creating Default User Profile In Windows 7 64bit?

Oct 30, 2010

Since windows 98, We have always been able to do the first time logon, setup all the applications, desktop settings, IE settings, everything, with a 'profile' user. We then rebooted the machine, logged on as administrator and Deleted the contents of the 'default user' folder and copied that 'profile' user sub folders into the 'default user' folder. We would then reset the permissions on that, 'default user' and all the sub folders of the 'default user' folder to allow access. This way when ANY user logs into the machine all the settings are as they should be rather than having to go through them all again from the beginning each and every time a FTL (first time logon) occurs.

It is also very good when a profile becomes corrupted and you have to start over. When I try this in windows 7 64bit I've now messed it up so that any new user that logs in gets an error message saying they've been logged in with temporary profile and all changes will be lost when log out. Although, all the setting seem to be there. So I'm just missing the something that tells windows 7 this new default is ok. Can this still be done? What are the steps now? What has changed and how do we accomplish this, at one time, simple task? {I have done this successfully with Vista 32 bit} .

Strange Defult Login User Prompt - Local Admin, Not Domain User?

Jan 17, 2012

So a new box recently built, when booted, defaults to the local administrator account. This is a Windows 7 machine for a Linux guru that doesn't want to be bothered pressing more buttons than is necessary, if you get my drift. So my question is, after pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del...how do I dictate to Windows that the preferred used is "HisDomainAccount" on our company domain, as opposed to the local admin account?

Windows 7 Takes Forever To Load The Select User/switch User Screen?

Jan 17, 2013

Earlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.

It is a Pentium Core i7
2.3 Ghz
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

User Accounts Created But Not Able To Logon - No User Profile

Feb 17, 2012

I am a lab technician for Microsoft classes at a community college. One of our students somehow messed up his hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. The system has two administrator accounts and one standard user account. I am still able to logon with those accounts and there are SID keys for each of these users in the registry.

Now when we create a new user, the account is created without any problems. The user shows up on the logon page and after running the net user command, it shows up there as well. When I try to logon with the new user, I get a message: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

None of the new user accounts show up in the registry. The other anomaly that I see is that the Default User folder is missing in each of the Users subdirectory for the three accounts where I have no problems.

I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 947215 and none of the methods apply to my problem. I also checked Local Group Policies and the Do not logon users with temporary profiles setting is not configured.

How To Map Existing User Folders To New User Account

I added a new drive C and installed the OS on C but changed default location of User Folders to D. I created a folder called Test within Users then created a User account called Test and logged in. It created another folder within Users called Test.Computername.

I changed the owner to my husband (checked the box "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects") as suggested on this thread and I still can't delete it.istory:- My user profile was corrupted, got the message that a temporary user profile was created.- Rather than going the route of going into the registry as suggested here, I deleted the account but kept the files (was this my mistake)?- When I went to create a new account, it appended HOME.DESKTOP to the end of my name

Remote Desktop Disconnects Rdp User When 2nd Rdp User Tries To Log On

Apr 3, 2012

Windows XP Remote Desktop Behaviour is desireable. that is, when one account is logged in, if another account is tried to use to log in remotely from another computer, then the 2nd user cannot connect and it is indicated who is currently logged in.

Windows 7 Default behaviour is to allow the second user to try to disconnect the first user through a query message which has an idle timer.

Is there any way to change the behaviour back to windows xp, where 1) disconnection of the 1st user session is not possible, and 2) it is indicated which user is signed on?

Why Is Creating A DVD Still So Difficult?

Oct 30, 2009

why is it that making a simple DVD movie that is playable in your home DVD or Xbox 360 still so hard? it was difficult under Xp, same under Vista, and now it continues with Windows 7. The built-in DVD Maker and Movie Maker work sometimes, they can't burn many types of files, and you ahve to go through a 2 hour burning process before you find out the DVD has no sound during playback!

has anyone come up with or used a DVD authoring software that works all the time, effortlessly? even Nero is a finicky one

Creating New Partition When Reinstalling Win XP?

Not being that computer savvy I got confused and despite having a portable hard drive for back up and the computer having a separate hidden restore partition, I went ahead with this.My question is that if I start again with XP can I reset the partition to a single C drive with separate restore area?

Creating A New Partition On D: Drive?

Sep 15, 2011

I'm thinking of installing Windows 8 on my second hard drive. I'm downloading it right now.

I would like to create a new partition for it so that it isn't on the same volume with my data files. I've done this often using 3rd party software but never using Windows 7 disk manager.

I have my D: drive backed up and will update it before I try anything but is this reasonably straight forward or are there pitfalls I should look out for?

I could always format the disk create the partition and then after installing Windows 8 restore all my data to D: again, but I'd like to keep it as simple as possible. There's over 500 gigs of stuff on my 1TB drive.

So I hit F1 and read about creating a system image. Clicked here, clicked there, specified by external hard drive and told it to only include my system drive C:. Whir, whir, whir . . .. system image created. Now, I've cleaned the system of any possible Malware, so I want to create a new image of my system drive. So, I click here, click there and specify my external hard drive but NOW it won't let me include only drive C:, it wants to include my data drive, E:. The check box for E: is greyed out so I can't uncheck it.
