Remote Desktop Disconnects Rdp User When 2nd Rdp User Tries To Log On
Apr 3, 2012
Windows XP Remote Desktop Behaviour is desireable. that is, when one account is logged in, if another account is tried to use to log in remotely from another computer, then the 2nd user cannot connect and it is indicated who is currently logged in.
Windows 7 Default behaviour is to allow the second user to try to disconnect the first user through a query message which has an idle timer.
Is there any way to change the behaviour back to windows xp, where 1) disconnection of the 1st user session is not possible, and 2) it is indicated which user is signed on?

I recently reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate. After reinstalling and re-creating the user accounts I noticed that I could no longer use this PC as a host for Remote Desktop as I had before.
Also, I can no longer switch users, instead I have to Log off each time a user wants to log on. I have done the gpedit.msc (policies/templates "hide entry points for fast user switching" which is disabled.
I have also added a registry HideFastUserSwitching. These two tips are offered in a few places.
I have also deleted the original user accounts and remade them just in case there was a corruption. I keep all data in a data partition so I just point the newly created accounts back to that partition. Could that have something wrong with it?

I have a Windows 7 network set up and whenever I connect remotely to another computer and lock their input such as their keyboard and mouse, the remote user still has the ability to press ctrl alt del, which then allows them to use their keyboard and mouse. My question is, is it possible to disable the ctrl alt del functionality in Windows 7 so that that Blue security screen does not appear? I have tried lots of remote desktop controlling software which has the option to lock the remote computer input, but they still can press ctrl alt del and unlock their keyboard and mouse. How do I stop this?

How do I setup remote login that would allow 3 or 4 people to login to the same computer. Each person would have their own Windows User Account name, with different privileges.I don't know what software could do this. Could I please have some recommendations? The computer being connected to would be Windows 7, and there is no special network equipment besides a consumer router. This is a very small business and keeping costs under control is important

I am currently trying to decide on the best remote support software to purchase for a 50+ workstation business. I have experimented with Real VNC and TeamViewer, and whilst they are quite comparable I noticed that TeamViewer has a feature called "Seamless Windows". I will be providing remote support to local users, and several interstate branches - therefore the software that I decide on must accommodate a wide diversity of geographical locations.I was also looking at a product called GoverLAN, but it seems to me that GoverLAN only works on a single LAN and can't be used over a WAN in a similar way to both RealVNC & TeamViewer?

So a new box recently built, when booted, defaults to the local administrator account. This is a Windows 7 machine for a Linux guru that doesn't want to be bothered pressing more buttons than is necessary, if you get my drift. So my question is, after pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del...how do I dictate to Windows that the preferred used is "HisDomainAccount" on our company domain, as opposed to the local admin account?

Earlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.
It is a Pentium Core i7
2.3 Ghz
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

I changed the values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList in order to move the default user locations to my second partition. I then created a new user profile but when I try to login I get the message 'The User Profile Service failed the login'. When I set these values back to normal, new accounts work fine but I really want my user accounts on the second partition.

I changed a user from admin to standard after creating a new admin account. When I boot into the standard user, I am prompted by UAC for the admin password for 4 programs to start. All the programs are ASUS utilities that came with mymotherboard.I have checked the permissions of the programs and the User group has full control. Also, these programs do not show up in the MSCONFIG startup tab. I want the utilities to run but do not want to have to authenticate every time I boot

I am a lab technician for Microsoft classes at a community college. One of our students somehow messed up his hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. The system has two administrator accounts and one standard user account. I am still able to logon with those accounts and there are SID keys for each of these users in the registry.
Now when we create a new user, the account is created without any problems. The user shows up on the logon page and after running the net user command, it shows up there as well. When I try to logon with the new user, I get a message: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
None of the new user accounts show up in the registry. The other anomaly that I see is that the Default User folder is missing in each of the Users subdirectory for the three accounts where I have no problems.
I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 947215 and none of the methods apply to my problem. I also checked Local Group Policies and the Do not logon users with temporary profiles setting is not configured.

How do I map existing User Folders to a newly created User Account?I had existing User Folders on drive D. I added a new drive C and installed the OS on C but changed default location of User Folders to D. Now my existing User Folders are in the Users folder on D but there is no User Account associated with them. If I create a user account with the same name will it map to the existing folder within Users?I did a test of this. I created a folder called Test within Users then created a User account called Test and logged in. It created another folder within Users called Test.Computername.

From my husband's Admin account, I deleted my own User Account, but the account is still there (with a lock icon on it) and I am unable to delete it (gives me the message that the folder is open or in use by another program). I changed the owner to my husband (checked the box "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects") as suggested on this thread and I still can't delete it.istory:- My user profile was corrupted, got the message that a temporary user profile was created.- Rather than going the route of going into the registry as suggested here, I deleted the account but kept the files (was this my mistake)?- When I went to create a new account, it appended HOME.DESKTOP to the end of my name

I'm having some issues with a child accessing inappropriate material on a PC in our home. All of the PC's were originally setup with only Admin accounts (no user accounts).I want to setup new user accounts and would like to copy the admin desktop and any programs on the Admin account to new user accounts. (Games, educational programs, etc.)
My goal is to lock down the PC's so only an admin (and not) a 'user' can make changes (add software, make dns changes, etc.). (I will be changing the Admin Password)

Using Windows 7. Go to start Username "Joe". My User folder "Joe" is a subgroup of Libraries. I think the folder organization is messed up and probably the reason I can't get MediaCenter to work. Also My Documents data is found under Desktop/Libraries/Documents and also under Desktop/Joe. So all my data is duplicated. See below for description.

I'm setting up the backup for my computer. When I tell it to back up the desktop for my user profile, however, there's nothing to backup, even though my desktop shows items on it. I found those items in the "public" desktop folder. When I check in HKEYCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsExplorerUsershellfolders, however, the Desktop data shows %USERPROFILE%Desktop, which is the path to my user desktop folder. I could just backup the public desktop folder, but I really don't want my desktop to be public.

Im having some problems after i boot my computer with Windows 7 x64. After the usual startup process which is fine, it logs onto my user and the screen just goes all black.. No taskbar, icons or anything. Mouse clicking doesn't work, and only occasionally i can provoke the taskmamager to work with ctrl, alt, del.. But what ever i click there it just sends me back to the black screen.. Its really annoying and ive considered just formating it, but the windows cd i have is only an upgrade version which i cant use as it just says the system is too new.. And i really cant afford a new win 7 cd.. Especially not with the soon release of win8..

Is there a quick easy way to migrate my settings and user data from the normal administrator user "tom" to the super administrator user?

I am using Windows 7 - Home Premium 64bit. There is only one user on this machine which is Administrator and this computer is not connected with any networks. I am trying to move all of User's folders to D: drive. I have successfully moved, My Pictures, My Documents, My Videos, Contacts and other folders but when I try to move "Desktop" folder, it gives me an error message at the end of the operation (after coping all the data to the new location) that "Folder Redirection Failed", "Operation was cancelled by the user". I have tried to change the location several times for this Desktop folder but every time I do it, I get this error message.
Now situation is... Data from my Desktop is present in its default location but also copied to D:UsersMyNameDesktop folder. Means, exactly the same data is placed on two different locations but default Desktop location is still at C: drive. Why I am unable to change my Desktop location? I am trying to change the location by right clicking on Desktop folder in User's folder, then Properties and then Location tab. It's exactly the same way by which I moved all of my other User's folders successfully.

I received my new laptop from the administrator at work, it came with a browser and recycle bin on the desktop. I found a work around for removing the recycle bin so that is no prob. However...
When I delete the browser icon it asks for an administrator login (which I have been given) I enter this and the icon is then deleted. However the icon keeps coming back! This seems to happen when I log back on or sometimes just after a few hours.

It's absolutely driving him nuts the way it is.

Earlier this week I was having a problem with another program that I thought was being caused by something corrupt in my workstation's domain user profile. So using the machine's local admin user, I renamed my domain user profile folder to something else, deleted the registry key for that user profile, then rebooted and logged back on with my domain user name. This created a new user profile folder in C:Users. Then I went about copying my files over, bookmarks, set up all my e-mail accounts again and imported calendar and contacts from the file in the old user profile, etc.
Well now my Outlook 2010 will not display a desktop alert when new mail arrives, and sometimes won't even make the sound for new mail. I have 3 different IMAP accounts on my Outlook, with my office e-mail being the default account. Desktop alerts have always worked fine on this machine, with Outlook 2010, with this e-mail account, before recreating my user profile. Now suddenly it doesn't want to work at all. The little mail icon shows on the far lower right, but I run dual widescreen displays and I don't always see that icon way over there. I'd rather have the desktop alert pop up near the middle (right of left screen, or left of right screen) where I'm more likely to see it.
I tried turning desktop alerts off and back on in Options. Also tried right-clicking the Outlook icon in the system tray and turning Show New Mail Desktop Alert off and back on. Nothing seems to be working.

A twist on the creation of user folders on a drive other than C: in Win 7 Ultimate. Does anyone know if one could designate a user folder location such as E:Data instead of using the users name and being a subdirectory of "Users". I am the ONLY one on my computer - and it would seem much easier to look to the top folder in the E drive than clicking thru E:, users, name, documents, project. I fully realize that I can set up shortcuts, but when you are in an application that wants to place a file somewhere else and presents you with an explorer windows it is a pain. The only method I thought of is using redirection with symbolic links.
