View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Thunderbird as my email client and I used to have a desktop icon I could click to open the send mail window with a pre-addressed mail. I created a desktop shortcut and put something like this in the location window:
mailto:(url)....
This doesn't seem to work in Windows 7 64 bit and instead of a shortcut icon I get a small desktop file created. When I click it, a send mail window opens but it isn't pre-addressed and the desktop file is an attachment.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've seen solutions posted all over for removing the desktop icon from appearing in windows 7 when you press alt+tab, but this does not seem to aply the change to the win+tab shortcut.I added a DWORD called 'AltTabSettings' inKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer and set the value to 1, is this supposed to work for both alt+tab and win+tab? If not, anyone know how to do this? It would make win+tab (which is much prettier of an effect than alt+tab) much more effective.

Select spdif
Select 'set as default.
Right click on the desktop
Resolution (or display settings or whatever)
select display 2
click OK
Run into the next room and click OK in 15 seconds or however long it gives me.
I was wondering, outside of using Ultramon, is there any quicker way to do the above. A shortcut or the possibility of building a macro or something?

View 0 Replies View Relatedi purchased a new computer and i migrated all my XP sp3 icons over to the new machine. This includes but not limited to favorites, desktop, as well as a third party email client that allows me to store favicons. In total there must be a few hundred shortcut icons. The problem is the icons are not displaying, the only way i can get them to display is by revisiting each site and creating a new shortcut and deleting the old link and placing the new link it its place. This is happening both on desktop and in all files on the directory, no old shortcut icons are showing, they all just default to the standard ie icon.I cant possibly do this with hundreds of icons, i would loose my mind lol.First can you explain the issue and why this is happening, is there a difference between the two formats?Second, is there a better and faster way to fix this without having to revisit each url and create a new shortcut.

Actually... I couldn't paste it for some reason. But it looks like a little box thing. Just try it in notepad and you will see it appear. First of all I find this annoying, so I was wondering what can I do to make it so ctrl + del works in Notepad for deleting whole words (because I love notepad). And second, why does it do this? Notepad isn't the only text box in Windows 7 that does this, I've found it on a couple of other text input elements as well. And what does this symbol even mean?

I have set up a Personal VPN on my new Windows 7 laptop to use when I'm on public wi-fi. As it is now, I have to go to the start menu -> control panel -> network and sharing center, and connect from there.
This used to be a breeze in WinXP.

View 0 Replies View RelatedHow to Create a Network Folder Shortcut in Windows 7 ?
View 0 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded my box from XP Pro to Windows7 Ultimate and the first thing that I noticed was the icon pictures when using the Thumbnail view.
With XP Pro, when the Thumbnail viewing mode was used a miniature picture of the actual picture represented by the icon was actually displayed on the icon. If the icon represented a folder containing multiple pictures, then the folder was divided into quarters displaying 4 micro picture taken from within that folder.
Now when it comes to the same usage in Windows 7, I find when in the Thumbnail viewing mode. ALL such icons are now depicted as a generic icon that shows a picture view of a spit of land protruding into a body of water and as such, finding a particular photo/picture is far more awkward than before.
My question: Is there a way that I can remedy this shortfall and set up Windows 7 Thumbnail viewing mode so that I can once again view a miniature of the within picture having it displayed on the actual Thumbnail icon?
I can't see my pictures, only a generic with the download number. How can I change this back to seeing the actual picture so I know what I'm choosing without having to preview each one?
