In Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium, when I hover over a program icon in the taskbar, it takes about two seconds for the name of the program pop-up over the icon to show up. Is it possible to speed that up? Yeah, I know, I'm impatient but, at my age, every second is precious .
View 4 RepliesMy laptop is only 4 days old. The IE9 icon in the taskbar was working properly meaning if I click the icon it will launch a webpage and if I pressed it again it will launch another webpage (the icon in the taskbar then get stacked up which is correct). Unfortunately after a windows update on my laptop, this feature doesn't work anymore. When I click the icon it will open a webpage but if I click it again the webpage CLOSES! No matter how many times I click the icon in the taskbar it won't launch another webpage. The IE in the start menu works fine and it will open as many webpages as I like but not in the taskbar (I have unpinned and repinned but to no difference) I have even done a system restore back to the earliest date possible but the problem has not been reverted. How to I fix it?.

Launching an application from the taskbar results in a second icon (with a border) appearing next to the pinned icon I launched from, instead of combining with it. The strange thing is, that this happens on 2 of the 3 accounts on my PC, and I cannot figure how to change it to see only one icon

Just shows me a black screen which fades back to a icon-less desktop. Solutions regarding finding explorer.exe and running it to show desktop icons don't work either.Just pops out the explorer window showing the desktop.And don't even start on right clicking desktop and select show icons.... cause that's the first thing I tried. System restore in safe mode yielded no results. Virus and malware scans turn up a clean bill. I'm only short of reformatting the pc, and I'm not even sure if I'm able to run the reformat from windows.

View 0 Replies View RelatedFor years now I have been using multiple displays with reasonably little trouble when fullscreening item such as VLC whilst using the secondary display.
I just built a Windows 7 PC and it appears to a problem i've not encountered before.
When I full screen an item in my main display and click on my secondary display the taskbar appears over the full-screened application. (item stays full-screened from top to bottom but taskbar is now present) This never use to happen before on my Vista machine and I assume there is something quite simply i'm missing?
I can sort of alleviate the problem by 'auto-hiding' but this isn't ideal as you can still see the the taskbar slightly which is a distraction when watching video
I wonder where you turn off those pesky little windows that pop up when you hover over taskbar icons.
I used Ultimate Windows Tweaker, and checked "Disable window previews (thumbnails)", and it seemed to work, but now, the peskies are back.
Does anyone know how to add an icon button in the taskbar that not only takes me to hotmail email, but displays current amount of emails as well for my windows 7 home premium OS desktop?

Some websites have very annoying music or 'announcements' so I like to switch the sound off - now I can't without going via Control Panel.I have looked in Control panel and found System Icons - and the Sound label is shown as OFF. But the little arrow next to it to change the state is greyed out so I can't turn it back on.I tried the 'show all icons' under Notification Area Icons but the audio still doesn't show.

Then today I unpinned Firefox from there because I wanted to change the icon I was using. After deciding I didn't like it I tried to go back to the one I was using but when I pinned it back to the task bar this problem occurred:As you can see when I click on the silver Firefox icon, it opens up a new firefox icon (default icon) in a separate place, taking up unnecessary space. I can't figure out how to make it go back to the way it was where everything stayed within the silver icon.

When I right click on the taskbar and choose properties, the power icon is turned off and the button that allows you to turn it on is greyed out. On my xp laptop I can left click on the battery in the taskbar and choose always on, presentation, ect. I have so many of them and my taskbar have already two rows and sometimes when I open programs or whatever else that is NOT included as a shortcut button on the taskbar, it takes extra space at which point the taskbar becomes scrollable with 3 rows. Not a good thing. I hate it with a passion. Yes I could make my task bar with 3 rows, but no, I don't like to waste my precious screen space.
