Icons appearing on Windows7 taskbar after return from screensaver or from sleep mode (this problem appearing as per twice in a day). For example: Avast Antivirus icon and GoogleTalk icon.... If they appear, i cudn't do anything with these icons, as they are non-responsive... Cudn't close the icons.. I have to open avast/gtalk to close these icons...
View 1 RepliesI have my screen saver set at 15 minutes. I first noticed something odd this past weekend. The screen saver was on when I drifted off to the land of sweet dreams. Sometime during the night I woke up, looked across the room, and I saw my desktop. Other than thinking "why do I see my desktop" I thought nothing else about it. Since then I have actually seen the screen saver disappear and my desktop appear. I was on the other side of the room, not on the computer, the mouse did not get moved, and nothing happened that would cause this.
I've not been able to figure out why all of a sudden the desktop would appear. What I can do to keep the screen saver on until I want to go to my desktop? I noticed that after a while the screen saver would come back on and stay on a while before going back to the desktop. It's caught in a loop of going back and forth. In the grand scheme of things, this is not a biggie but I'd still like to know why this is happening.
For years now I have been using multiple displays with reasonably little trouble when fullscreening item such as VLC whilst using the secondary display.
I just built a Windows 7 PC and it appears to a problem i've not encountered before.
When I full screen an item in my main display and click on my secondary display the taskbar appears over the full-screened application. (item stays full-screened from top to bottom but taskbar is now present) This never use to happen before on my Vista machine and I assume there is something quite simply i'm missing?
I can sort of alleviate the problem by 'auto-hiding' but this isn't ideal as you can still see the the taskbar slightly which is a distraction when watching video
i left my computer on at night and i let the screensaver go on, as i move the mouse to go to my desktop this morning. the task bar was half gone. all that was on the bottom was the start windows logo. Im wondering if my computer is set to turn off the hd or something when the computer isn't touched for 30 min.

I presently have screensaver off because if I'm watching TV it will active in so many minutes unless I move the mouse. So I had to turn off but still like to active the screensaver if I walk away using an icon command from the desktop.

This fuzzy white bar appears underneath of the icons in my taskbar at random times. It happens often when I open gmail, often when I hover over links (no particular links; randomly as far as I can tell) & sometimes it's just there. Sometimes it is behind only certain icons, sometimes it extends from the start button 3/4 of the way across the screen, & sometimes it is expanding / contracting. It started a couple weeks ago. Doesn't seem to mess with anything, but doesn't seem right either.

The IE9 icon in the taskbar was working properly meaning if I click the icon it will launch a webpage and if I pressed it again it will launch another webpage (the icon in the taskbar then get stacked up which is correct). Unfortunately after a windows update on my laptop, this feature doesn't work anymore. When I click the icon it will open a webpage but if I click it again the webpage CLOSES! No matter how many times I click the icon in the taskbar it won't launch another webpage. The IE in the start menu works fine and it will open as many webpages as I like but not in the taskbar (I have unpinned and repinned but to no difference) I have even done a system restore back to the earliest date possible but the problem has not been reverted. How to I fix it?.

Launching an application from the taskbar results in a second icon (with a border) appearing next to the pinned icon I launched from, instead of combining with it. The strange thing is, that this happens on 2 of the 3 accounts on my PC, and I cannot figure how to change it to see only one icon

Just shows me a black screen which fades back to a icon-less desktop. Solutions regarding finding explorer.exe and running it to show desktop icons don't work either.Just pops out the explorer window showing the desktop.And don't even start on right clicking desktop and select show icons.... cause that's the first thing I tried. System restore in safe mode yielded no results. Virus and malware scans turn up a clean bill. I'm only short of reformatting the pc, and I'm not even sure if I'm able to run the reformat from windows.

Some websites have very annoying music or 'announcements' so I like to switch the sound off - now I can't without going via Control Panel.I have looked in Control panel and found System Icons - and the Sound label is shown as OFF. Then today I unpinned Firefox from there because I wanted to change the icon I was using.
