Ive noticed some shortcuts i have seem to be losing their icon graphic, when i search for the original exe it too is the same, if i reboot the problem is solved for a while then starts happening again, it seems to happen mostly to shortcuts i keep in folders on desktop but it doesnt happen to all of them?
View 3 RepliesI'm using Thunderbird as my email client and I used to have a desktop icon I could click to open the send mail window with a pre-addressed mail. I created a desktop shortcut and put something like this in the location window:
mailto:(url)....
This doesn't seem to work in Windows 7 64 bit and instead of a shortcut icon I get a small desktop file created. When I click it, a send mail window opens but it isn't pre-addressed and the desktop file is an attachment.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've seen solutions posted all over for removing the desktop icon from appearing in windows 7 when you press alt+tab, but this does not seem to aply the change to the win+tab shortcut.I added a DWORD called 'AltTabSettings' inKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer and set the value to 1, is this supposed to work for both alt+tab and win+tab?If not, anyone know how to do this? It would make win+tab (which is much prettier of an effect than alt+tab) much more effective.

When I right click on a shortcut and open its properties dialog, the only tabs i get are "General", "Compatibility", "Security", "Details", and "Previous Versions", but no "Shortcut" tab. Actually... I couldn't paste it for some reason. But it looks like a little box thing. Just try it in notepad and you will see it appear. First of all I find this annoying, so I was wondering what can I do to make it so ctrl + del works in Notepad for deleting whole words (because I love notepad). And second, why does it do this? Notepad isn't the only text box in Windows 7 that does this, I've found it on a couple of other text input elements as well. And what does this symbol even mean?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a problem with my year old desktop pc and random screen corruption when i startup the pc. sometimes it does it once a month, but in the last week its happened it every day. this is a video of what happens but its not always the same, but its always at startup. usually anytime upto and including the windows login screen, but never before or during the bios screen. once it corrupts i then need to hard reset, soft reset does nothing. also, after a successful reboot windows complains of a previous bluescreen. all drivers are up to date. nvidia_gtx465_corruption.3gp - Internet i`ve tried replacing the graphics card and i still had problems and i`ve reinstalled windows 7. i`m thinking the next thing is to replace the psu? whats strange is that it never goes wrong once windows is up and running, its only at startup. it also cause the external monitor (tv) to blank out and it freezes the pc ie caps lock,etc dont function. i`ve also tried it in someone else`s house with different monitor and the same occurred.

Since the past 6 months i have been using my PC using my onboard graphics which is HD4200 (must be ATI), but prior to that i used to have my GTX 460 installed in this PC but it was on a 32 bit windows 7. On 6th Sept 2012 i re fitted my GTX 460 with the latest drivers of that day ( first i uninstalled the ATI drivers from device manager and then used driver sweeper in safe mode) but soon after installing the GTX in 5 minutes got a BSOD but all i could see was a percentage counter like 0-5-10-15... 100 and a reboot. All this happened in 5 seconds max i guess. I reformatted the PC and this time installed the previous WHQL drivers from nvidia namely 295.xx something but they didnt work either.All i had left to do was to remove the GPU and reinstall the onboard drivers and without my gpu pc worked great.

I tried to install styleXP on my computer and said that it didn't work on windows 7 so I uninstalled it and I think it might have removed the icons or something? Some have the default white window icon, some have a External Disc (USB or HD) icon. I have done the IconCache thing but it didn't do anything. Also, some icons in my computer are missing. My desktop icon in my computer has dissapered. My folder icons in start menu, under all programs have also been replaced with the white icon.

Some websites have very annoying music or 'announcements' so I like to switch the sound off - now I can't without going via Control Panel.I have looked in Control panel and found System Icons - and the Sound label is shown as OFF.
