Being somewhat bored I began playing around with Homegroups. I delved into HG awhile back but never really got into it. To make a long story short I can't start the service 'Peer Name Resolution Protocol' which is required for HG. There are 3 Peer type services. One is started (Peer Networking Identity Manager). The other one (Peer Networking Grouping) is not because it depends on 'Peer Name Resolution Protocol.' Both Homegroup services are started and I have IPV6 enabled on my NIC and in the LAN properties. Also the last time I played around with HG it seemed I needed the MS Firewall service started which it is. The event log has this: 'The Peer Name Resolution Protocol cloud did not start because the creation of the default identity failed with error code: 0x80630801.
I'm trying to link two computers together (both on Windows 7 Pro) in a network for a small business environment. My software program is installed on both computers and I need for it to be able to be used simultaneously on both machines. Setting up a homegroup doesn't seem to allow this access.
I have a Windows XP desktop - wired to my Motorola router/modem from AT$T for a while. I been able to run a Vista Desktop and a Windows 7 Premium Home with no problem. I got the A V Guardonline spam ware. I was able to clean it up using Combo Fix and Malware Byte. After Combo Fix - at first I didn't an Internet connection. I had to go off. When I came back decided to check the Internet before I deleted the network driver. However, it turns out the Internet fine and I can still see and access my Vista computer on the network. However now the Windows XP Peer to Peer network doesn't see my Windows 7 laptop. The laptop and see the network and connect. However it can only see the vista desktop and not the Windows XP and even though it connects no Internet access. In network and sharing it shows unidentified network public. I think this should be set to HOME. How can I do this? I have Windows 7 Premium so I can't use secpol.msc. What to do? I have turned off all feature or services with the Home Group. My IP address is 169.254.141.68. I know that means I not getting a valid IP address. Also when I on Windows 7 laptop in network and sharing - I connect to my network - it sees it but then says it can't connect but when I check it is connected. It sending and receiving bytes but it can't ping or see the router.
I am trying to connect my win 7 x64 to win vista but it's not working. When I am trying to ping from win vista its showing successful but reverse is not. I have tried all options and troubleshooted it but all efforts are in vain.
I am using windows seven ultimate. I have accidentally choosen Display 2. In the screen resolution and now my laptop doesn't start in normal mode. Its like I have to connect to an external display like a laptop to view my Desktop. I can only access it using safe mode..
I am trying to fix a Samsung laptop for a friend. She admits to having 'fiddled' with the networking applets in Control Panel with the result that neither LAN nor Wi-fi functions any more.I have noticed that I am unable to use the GUI to access IPv4 Properties because the button is greyed out. Also greyed out is Uninstall. The only button available is Install. I have tried that, but after rebooting the situation appears to be the same. I have tried using the command prompt as Administrator and using NETSH to uninstall IP, install it, reset it etc, rebooting every time but without any noticeable change afterwards. Also tried NETSH WINSOCK RESET after the above. I have also tried the above in recovery mode with networking enabled. Again, no change!Unfortunately, the model does not have a CD drive. However, it has USB ports. Fortunately, I do have a generic 32-bit Win 7 Home Premium CD - which is the operating system installed on the PC. So I could copy the CD in one way or another to an external USB drive and work from that if necessary. If I knew what I had to do!There is a lot of valuable data on the PC and I don't want to be responsible for losing it. Of course, I could try backing it all up but she has saved stuff all over the place and I am bound to miss something! Yes, I could copy the entire disk ...... I know!! But we would still have to find and retrieve the data later.

When i am remote desktoping to one of our terminal servers from windows 7 and then shadowing a users session as soon as i connect to the users session via Terminal Services Manager I get the following error:'Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. please try connecting to the remote computer again.'It appears to be a problem with windows 7 remote desktop, as i also have XP and Vista machines which i do the same on but they work fine!
I have noticed that svchost.exe is doing this connections every 10-20 seconds, and every 10-20 seconds there is a lag spike that jump the latency up to 1000ms and more.
I want to disabled this periodical connections that windows does...I don't know what Has caused this...I have tried completely disabling svchost.exe access to internet but than no application launched can connect to internet.
The connections are port specific, the remote ip to which it connects to is always 192.168.1.1:53, which for sure is the ip of the dns (redirected by the router) plus the port 53. I have tried completely disabling the access to this remote port for all the local ip and local ports with my firewall, but it just keeps avoiding it. I have used this method with the connections to microsoft with the port 3544 witch are being disabled.
In Default Programs, When I select 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program'. When I select an extension and click the Change Program button, the program I want is not on the list, So I select [Browse] and select the program I want then nothing happens. How do I add a program to the list ?
Should I upgrade the firmware of my netgear wndr3700 router so it will now support ip6 protocol instead of ip4. The update in in netgears website. The support for my router has expires so I would need to pay for support if there any problems. The netgear wndr3700 works perfectly right now with my computer and wireless blue ray player..

I have Dell Optiplex GX260 system. I intalled Windows 7 Ultimate on that. The resolution of screen is fine but it is not supporting 1280 x 1024 resolution and videos are not playing properly. It was not taking audio drivers as well but when I ran the SoundMax drivers for XP in compatibility mode they were installed. But display drivers are not getting installed. I even tried the various driver from Nvidia for XP/Vista/Win 7, but none of them works.
In Windows 7 I cannot get shortcuts to open from my destop. I get the error message "The protocol "http" does not have a registered program". How do I fix this
The control panel Default Programs options only work for programs that Windows 7 admits exist (with some VERY strange omissions, like MS Office) but it is easy to work around that by using windows explorer to let you associate any program that you can browse to with any file type that is already on your system.
BUT how to you associate a new "protocol" with a program (specifically Internet Explorer). My problem is that I have one email provider that automatically changes every incoming email hyperlink from http://etc to blockedhttp://etc
With WinXP and Outlook Express there was no problem because clicking on the link would automatically open IE8 which would of course fail to open the site, but I could easily click into the address bar and delete the "blocked" from in front of http
Now I'm running Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail and I can't get the links to open anything. When I click on the link, I get an error message "There is no probram associated to perform the requested action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."
I have tried each of the functions under Default Programs and none of them will let you enter a NEW association. I found the one that says Internet Explorer is associated with http:// and https:// but there is no way to add any new protocol. Unlike filetypes you can't work around the protocols by using explorer.
So ive been getting the black screen with movable cursor lately and have tried many a methods to remove it i tried checking in my event log for something, and this is waht it said "The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:dtsoftbus01" So what does this mean and how can i fix this?
Monday couldn't boot up PC, had to go to system recovery and restore to previous day.
Log files show below that 4 things failed to load. Tuesday couldn't boot up PC again.. tried to restart like 4-5 times.. Finally comes up and in the logs there's numerous things that failed to load. Running a sfc /scannow right now.
I found corrupted system files, but it appears that the hard disk is fine. executed chkdsk and no bad sectors.Just looked into this on event viewer-The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:xsoaynmfmfxpefxbozedltnzvijcvI am running Acer Aspire X3950-U3022 with Windows 7 Home Premium Home Edition.
I'm not sure where to even begin to fix these problems. Some online searches suggested doing a system repair but I want to get some more feedback here before proceeding. Here is the message from the event log:The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AFD cmdGuard cmdHlp CSC DfsC discache ElbyCDIO
[code]...
I realized some of these are not Windows 7 related but most are. While the computer "works", I do experience frequent reboots and freezes. Perhaps some of these driver loading failures are part of the cause of my issues.
When i got home today didn't my computer work, my girlfriend has been the last one using it. So don't know how things were just before the shutdown or anything.when i turn on the computer i get to the screen where "touch bios" is and where i can see the options like Bios settings, boot menu, xpress recovery.but i cant press anything, and after about two seconds on that screen the PC shuts down again. The keyword lights up so there is a responds on it, but just doesn't work to press anything before it shuts down.I've got BSOD upto several times a day for a few months time.believe that my computer is affected by some virus or something is delaying my computer. might be an combination of several things.I got no external things hugged up to the stationeer computer right now.it is a windows 7 x64 machine. usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.
When I start up my computer, my Steam starts up, then I manually start Chrome. Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.
I have a video card that used to boot up in windows 7 - but know this computer with a GeForce 9500GT video card boots up with the Vista boot up logo.I found out this was the video card because I have another card with another GeForce video.I took the swapped the video cards, and the indication changed. The original computer booted with the windows start up screen. And the test computer booted up with the vista boot up screen.
I was told by a local computer repair facility this had something to do with video drivers.I tried what the organization suggested and uninstalled all video drivers (I used generic Windows 7 Video Drivers). Then the organization recommended downloading the latest video drivers for the GeForce 9500GT.This video card has 512GBytes of memory. I did this. Then I was told to install the newly downloaded video drivers.I resrted the computer with the Vista login screen with windows 7 operating system, and the vista login screen was displayed.
Last night I was on my computer and then I shut it down. Today when I came home from work it keeps saying windows failed to start. I tried hitting f8 and loading to the last good configuration doesn't work, safe mode same thing, repairing nothing, so my last resort was my windows 7 cd. So I went into bios and made my configuration boot from cd/dvd popped it in and restarted, a black screen came up saying windows is loading files, then the windows 7 menu came up, picked my language, next, and first I tried repair my computer, I get the little circle meaning its loading for like 5 seconds them it does nothing, rebooted again but this time I chose, install and I've been on the setup is starting for like 20 min. And forgot to mention, when it boots seem like it does good then comes to the screen where it says windows failed and gives me two options repair our start normal, if I pick repair it just reboots and start normal takes me to like the pick your user screen but its just blank no users, so I can't even restore our access the computer.
1. Which DLL uses W7/64 for the sound at start-up of Windows? I would like to edit it for my own sound.
2. How can I alter the sequence of the entries in the Start-menu? Now the sequence is in sequence of creation, I would like to group them by application-area.
I have an error that system32/hall.DLL is missing so I put in my windows 7 DVD ( I Have 4 DVDs for my windows, gateway, I always put the first one) so I could start start-up repair but when the windows files is loaded it keeps starting recovery mangment which gives me options to recover my hard drive to factory defaults (ie delete files on c and reinstall windows) ,why I don't get options to choose startup repair, how can I get it to start start-up repair?
My laptop freezes when i turn it on after a minute or two just enough time to maybe sign in but i can go into safe mode and it wont freeze but you cant do anything in safe mode that
