Acronis True Image "Failed To Start Try&Decide"

May 4, 2012

My PC is running W7 Pro 64bit with a single drive in two partitions (C: contains the OS and all software; D: is small and used only for some storage) there is also the obligatory hidden recovery partition set up by W7 on installation. For security I use the MS firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials, Spybot S&D (Teatimer off) and Spyware Blaster.

I have not tried or used Try&Decide (or any other ATI utility) to date but have a bit of software I should like to try out. As a result I attempted to start the utility today but all I get is the title message ("Failed to Start Try&Decide") at all attempts. I have looked in various places for further information as to the cause to no avail and there is nothing in the Help file to assist me, I have found nothing on the Acronis forums and my one month support expired in March - unused!

Macrium Vs Acronis True Home Image 2011

Feb 23, 2011

I know both programs have been discussed before but what are the pros and cons of both Macrium and the latest version of Acronis (2011)? or are they pretty equal? I don't mind spending a few bucks on Acronis especially since I still got gift cards form Xmas Acronis looks like it has a "prettier" UI and really I would prefer to have purchase a disk rather that a download but that's not a deal breaker. I was also looking a Norton Ghost 15 but have read some really bad reviews.

Acronis True Image 2009 Work With Windows 7 64bit?

Jan 3, 2012

I have been using Windows 7 backup and restore but never tested out the restore part and frankly dont trust it. Another problem is that I dont have enough room (so says the MS backup program) to backup a 640 GB system disk to a empty 640 GB disk! On top of that, I am not backing everything up and the system disk has some 105 GBs still available!

Acronis True Image Home Different From Windows 7 Backup And Restore?

Jan 11, 2012

I have got a license for Acronis True Image Home 2010. To my surprise, I don't like it unlike many other folks who swear on this software.Acronis creates a backup image in .tib or .zip format whereas Windows 7 Backup and Restore creates system image in an encrypted folder (with all files and folders NOT formatted). In either case, backup image becomes ready for "restore". So why keep Acronis? Well, Acronis can backup custom files and folders unlike Windows 7 default program (and, Windows 7 does it, too), however, Acronis does "Create full path (includes drive letter)" which I simply dislike. Fbackup4 (free license), on the other hand, does not do it but does the job the way I want, i.e., creates files and folders the way they are organized (without including drive letter, and without zipping or making some unusual file format). So for data backup, Fbackup4 is better, IMO. I remember, WinXP creates crazy backup file format like Acronis does.Paragon Migrate OS to SSD SE (I have license for this, too) is special in the sense that it can copy the entire OS drive/partition to a blank drive. Very good for drive upgrade.

Acronis True Image Home 11 Network Backup Is Slow

Jun 2, 2012

I support a small LAN with 7 Windows 7 64-bit desktops for a local charity.

All the desktops have Acronis True Image Home 11 (ATI11) installed and are configures as a HomeGroup. I have been doing an incremental image backup over the network using ATI11 to one of the desktops but lately speed of the backups has become unacceptable.

For a specific example, Two of the desktops are Core I7 machines with GBit network interfaces connected through a GBit switch.

a) If I backup one to the other using ATI11 the backup will take 4-6 hours with network utilization at 3-5%.

b) If I backup the SAME system to its secondary HDD using ATI11 (a local backup) the backup takes about 2 hours.

c) If I then use a simple COPY command to copy the large ATI11 TIB backup file (30-50GB) from the SAME system to the SAME target system the network utilization varies from 25%-60% and the copy takes a, relatively speaking, small amount of time.

Note I get the same results for source systems which only have a 100MB network card except that during the COPY test they use 80-90% of the available network speed.

changing the network cards settings, IPV4 Checksum Offload for example. I tried that and it immediately "broke" the HomeGroup network connection. Question: Why will ATI11 not use more of the available network speed? Neither the source system nor the target system is CPU bound during the ATI11 backup, network or local. Aside from Norton Antivirus there are no other non-MS apps running. Disk Queue Length is not excessive.

Trying To Restore Acronis Image Fails?

Sep 8, 2011

for backups of my main OS (in my signature) I have acronis TIH create a single image full backup daily to a different drive. Weekly a single image backup is created and saved on a different drive. Because my SSDs are in RAID0, every few weeks I make a system image backup using Acronis (outside of the daily and weekly backups), clean/all the SSDs to put everything back to 0 on the drives, then restore my installation. It makes a significant performance increase for sure. This last go around a week ago, I did the usual but could not restore no matter what I did. I bought the new version of acronis, the plus pack, unplugged all the other drives, etc etc etc that acronis told me to do to try to fix the error I was getting restoring any backups. Finally what I did was take an old backup, transfer it over the network to a different computer, bought acronis TIH again (ridiculous) and was able to clone it to a drive, plug the drive back into my main rig, boot acronis from a USB drive and clone that installation to the SSD raid setup. The only problem was, the backup I was able to use was from 7-10. I'm now trying to convert the images which would not restore to VHD to boot from the bootmgr screen of the currently restored (7-10) installation.Every tutorial I see only deals with creating a new .vhd to install windows to and boot.

Acronis Image 2011 Restore To Larger HDD

Nov 28, 2011

I got 2 partitions and the 1st partition is bigger then the 2nd. So when I try to restore my backup OS from the smaller partition to the bigger one it does not load properly! My Os is windows 7 32bit.It loads and say preparing your desktop then the desktop is blue and no icons, nothing. Just blank! I restart and enter into safe mode and still nothing just a blue screen, where you can move the mouse and press alt-del to get task manger loader but that is it.I am wondering that it might be that you can restore your image by Acronis on drives that are bigger or smaller. You need to partition it.So is this the reason why windows will not load properly cause I am restoring to a bigger partition? I tried many times and failed. Ironically when I use the same size partition image it restores perfectly so not sure what is this?

True Image Lite 2013 Beta Offers No-frill Backups?

Nov 19, 2012

Quote: Acronis International has released a beta version of True Image Lite 2013, a stripped-down version of its True Image backup tool. The new release ditches disk, partition, email and file backup types, for instance (theres non-stop backup and online backup only). There are no full or differential backups (just incremental). No scheduling, no backups to CDs, DVDs or Blu-ray, no option to create a bootable recovery disc, and of course none of the extensive settings youll find in the full True Image package.

The Following Boot Start Or System Start Drivers Failed To Load

Oct 3, 2012

I'm not sure where to even begin to fix these problems. Some online searches suggested doing a system repair but I want to get some more feedback here before proceeding. Here is the message from the event log:The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:

AFD
cmdGuard
cmdHlp
CSC
DfsC
discache
ElbyCDIO

[code]...

I realized some of these are not Windows 7 related but most are. While the computer "works", I do experience frequent reboots and freezes. Perhaps some of these driver loading failures are part of the cause of my issues.

Windows 7 Failed To Start - Repair Or Start Normal?

Dec 28, 2011

Last night I was on my computer and then I shut it down. Today when I came home from work it keeps saying windows failed to start. I tried hitting f8 and loading to the last good configuration doesn't work, safe mode same thing, repairing nothing, so my last resort was my windows 7 cd. So I went into bios and made my configuration boot from cd/dvd popped it in and restarted, a black screen came up saying windows is loading files, then the windows 7 menu came up, picked my language, next, and first I tried repair my computer, I get the little circle meaning its loading for like 5 seconds them it does nothing, rebooted again but this time I chose, install and I've been on the setup is starting for like 20 min. And forgot to mention, when it boots seem like it does good then comes to the screen where it says windows failed and gives me two options repair our start normal, if I pick repair it just reboots and start normal takes me to like the pick your user screen but its just blank no users, so I can't even restore our access the computer.

The backup image on the internal drive took about 25 minutues and seems OK. The image size is about 75Gb.

I then tried a second backup on my external drive. ESATA is supposed to be faster than USB. After about three and a half hours the backup stopped and said that it had failed. Any ideas please?

Using Recovery Manager To Reset Laptop - Image Failed To Copy Across

Nov 3, 2012

I was using recovery manager to reset my laptop (ACER 5470G) back to factory settings. The image failed to copy across. I then got Boot Mgr is Missing - I have tried, everything it states on the internet and even bought some software WIN RE to carry out the recovery but nothing works. I have tried to reinstall W7 ISO and W7 full installation software but it all has failed. The message i get with the full install disc and iso is that the system i have to select a drive PQ, F and C, the only option I have is C, but when I try it states it can't do it. I tried Ubuntu and it did work, so I presume the HDD is ok. I did have Zone Alarm Data-lock installed on it and I don't know if that is preventing the re-install. I tried to install XP, but that just dies out.

Create System Image - Backup Failed / Device Not Connected

Jan 9, 2010

I recently built a windows 7 home premium PC with an Intel 160 GB SSD as (C) for OS/programs and second 1TB HDD as (D) for data and backups. I also have a DVD burner (H). They are all SATA drives running in AHCI mode. Immediately after installing just windows, I used the windows backup feature to successfully create a system image to a local disk (D) which was and still is nearly empty. The next day, after installing drivers, updates, and a few programs, I went to create a second system image but this time it failed. The process started as it should have but halfway through it failed with the following message:

"The backup failed"
"The device is not connected (0x8007048f)"

At that point, after exiting the program, the D drive does not show up on my computer. Upon rebooting the D drive reappears. I searched the web and found some references to checking whether volume shadow copying services and their dependent services were working and that didn't work. Another reference said to try updating to a newer bios as some have bugs that screw up the enumerator for the drive order. The BIOS I use is the latest and wasn't changed since my first successful attempt at creating the system image.

Windows 7 Home Premium
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4 Bios 6 (latest)
Intel 160 GB SSD (C) OS
1 TB HDD (D)

System Image Backup Failed (on Same Hard Drive) - Error 0x80042407

Feb 26, 2012

I have 2x160gb intel SSD disks running as RAID0. Recently my motherboard had failed and I replaced it with new one (different model). Couldn't access OS because apparently some RAID data is kept on the motherboard and that was gone, so I decided to use a backup. Booted from windows 7 installation disk and selected backup,

I click on 'repair', get to the 'select a system image backup'. Select 'use the latest available system image (recommended). Click 'next' I get the message 'all disk to be restored will be formatted and replaced with the layout and data in the system image'. Click Yes. But then got an error saying:

"The system image restore failed. The disk that is set as active in BIOS is too small to recover the original system disk. Replace the disk with a larger one and retry the restore operation. (0x80042407)"

Disk is completely empty with only 1 partition (deleted all partitions and reformatted and then created one). Before motherboard problem I had several partitions, but I imagine that restore would recreate them. Why do I get 'disk to small error' when I am restoring on the same disk? RAID configuration problem? Could stripe size be an issue here?

My OS: Windows 7 64 Professional
