Windows 7 Failed To Start - Repair Or Start Normal?

Dec 28, 2011

Last night I was on my computer and then I shut it down. Today when I came home from work it keeps saying windows failed to start. I tried hitting f8 and loading to the last good configuration doesn't work, safe mode same thing, repairing nothing, so my last resort was my windows 7 cd. So I went into bios and made my configuration boot from cd/dvd popped it in and restarted, a black screen came up saying windows is loading files, then the windows 7 menu came up, picked my language, next, and first I tried repair my computer, I get the little circle meaning its loading for like 5 seconds them it does nothing, rebooted again but this time I chose, install and I've been on the setup is starting for like 20 min. And forgot to mention, when it boots seem like it does good then comes to the screen where it says windows failed and gives me two options repair our start normal, if I pick repair it just reboots and start normal takes me to like the pick your user screen but its just blank no users, so I can't even restore our access the computer.

The Following Boot Start Or System Start Drivers Failed To Load

Oct 3, 2012

I'm not sure where to even begin to fix these problems. Some online searches suggested doing a system repair but I want to get some more feedback here before proceeding. Here is the message from the event log:The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:

AFD
cmdGuard
cmdHlp
CSC
DfsC
discache
ElbyCDIO

[code]...

I realized some of these are not Windows 7 related but most are. While the computer "works", I do experience frequent reboots and freezes. Perhaps some of these driver loading failures are part of the cause of my issues.

Windows 7 Failed To Start?

A few days ago, I started having trouble with Dell Latitued D800, Windows 7. First, Windows would not boot up. I was able to boot windows using the F12 option. When Windows loaded, the screen display had shrunk and was centered with a black perimeter. I contacted the guy that sold me the computer and he suggested that I check the boot sequence for the boot issue. That worked fine. To resolve the resolution issue, I was advised to select the "last known good configuration" from the F8 options. After I did that, the Windows Error Recovery Screen. A Recent Hardware Or Software Change May Be The Cause. I attempt to start windows normally.

I'd had some problem with my laptop the last few days, what I believed to have happened is my laptop (Dell inspiron n5110) which is windows 7, was doing a configuration, but because of my bad connection, my internet dropped. It was stuck at 15% for 3 hours so I turned it off as it was about to run out of battery. It had some problems loading and starting up but they went after a day. but 1 day later I am booting up and I get a black screen.

Windows 7 Failed To Start?

I went to use the rest room. I come back and he had spilled his juice inside my machine. I lost video and the fan on my brand new 7770 was stuck on max rpm. I turned everything off, took out the gpu, cleaned it, let it dry. Let the rest of the computer dry. I reinstalled the GPU and turned on my machine. The fan was no longer stuck on max RPM, so I felt I dodged a bullet. However, windows failed to start. It continually fails to start. I tried an older GPU (9500 GT). The fan on it would, for some reason, not spin, but I saw the model come up when I started the PC. Windows wont start. Initially I believed my problem was limited to a shorted GPU and I don't mind buying another new one, but since I was unable to get my old GPU to work I'm worried something else has shorted.

Windows 7 Failed To Start Up?

Oct 3, 2012

today my computer failed to boot up, I got a message stating that Windows 7 failed to start up. It was working perfectly fine the day before, I have no new installed software, applications, or hardware. So first I went through the "repair" process however it failed also and yielded no fix, I tried this activity several times to no avail. Then I began to test my hardware I removed one of my graphic cards and all but one stick of RAM and only connected one Hard drive. I went through the boot process with no motherboard errors, however I still got the same "failed to start up" warning. Running out of ideas and swapping hardware like a mad man, nothing seemed fix the problem.

After these failed attempts I decided to put the Windows 7 installation disk into the drive and see if I could run that and repair, or essentially put a fresh install onto my hard drive. Unfortunately for some reason when it prompts me to "hit any key to to boot from DVD" it doesn't record my keystroke and immediately brings me back to the original message of "failed to start up".So here I am running Ubuntu from a USB flash drive and all my hardware is reported accurately and is running like a top. Now, I can re-format the hard drive as NTFS through Ubuntu but I have a couple of questions: 1. my Original Windows 7 install has been on a 500 gb partition from a 1tb drive, I can format just the partition through Ubuntu but not sure if that will translate over when I attempt to reinstall windows.2. Why isn't my keyboard being able to press "any key" to boot into the windows install disc?

Windows Failed To Start?

Nov 19, 2012

I'm very new to PCs, I just built this rig back in July and I've just run into my first "problem". I was sitting here reading the paper when my PC randomly shut down. When it started back up, it brought me to a black DOS screen that said:"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.2. Choose your language settings, and then click next.3. Click repair your computer. If you do not have this disk, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.Status: Status:0x000000e Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible"So I did what it suggested and inserted my Windows 7 disc and ran repair. Repair couldn't do anything. It told me to contact my system administrator or hardware manufacturer.

So I opened my chasis and removed unplugged both of my HDs (OCz 120GB SDD and WD 2TB HDD) and plugged them back in. I booted up again and removed the Windows 7 disc. Now I had a black screen telling me something like "Define your boot disc in BIOS or insert media". That isn't verbatim, I should have wrote it down. Sorry. But I went into my BIOS and went to the Boot tab. I only saw two boot methods! OCz as no. 1 and Atapi as no. 2! Shouldn't Western Digital be there too (at least as a choice?) well I didn't see it.I switched Atapi to no. 1 and OCz to no. 2 (as if that would do anything) and that black screen about setting your boot method came up and I think I figured out it was looking for my Windows 7 disc. So I put it in and entered a key. The install menu came up, I clicked repair and this time it wasn't finding my Windows 7 installation at all! I started to panic because I thought both of my HDs had been wiped. I ran repair again. Did nothing. I went back into BIOS and put Ocz back as no. 1 and disabled no. 2 (Atapi) and amazingly, my computer started up.

Windows 7 Failed To Start: 0x000000f

Apr 10, 2011

My mother recently threw the task of trying to fix her laptop. It absolutely refuses to boot Windows 7, which is her primary and only OS on the system. Here's what I've got so far:

1-HDD Boot returns: "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1. Insert.... 2.... 3.... Status: 0xc000000f Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."

So, I went into my BIOS setup, and switched my Boot Device Order to CD/DVD drive first. I try booting from my Windows 7 Disk, but before it reaches the "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" I get this message: "SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 0: HTS541....... WARNING: Immediately back-up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent. Press F1 to Continue."

So I boot from the CD/DVD and Windows loads the files....sometimes it stalls at a black screen afterwards. If not, then it tells me to choose an OS to boot from, and the only option is "Windows Setup [EMS Enabled]". I hit F8 to try an Advanced Option. I tried booting into Safe Mode with Command Prompt. It loads the driver files but then just hung on "disk.sys" and I had to force shut-down.

I'm assuming it's a HDD failure, though I've also heard that the drive may be fine and it may be a Motherboard/CPU problem. I've also heard of a problem with a windows update causing a problem after reboot. I can't check anything because I can't get windows to boot even with a CD, which makes me believe it's more than a HDD problem.

Windows Failed To Start: File: Boot/bcd

Nov 20, 2012

I have a computer I am trying to refurbish. The old hard drive failed. I purchased a new hard drive. The CD/DVD player on the computer does not work, but I am able to boot from a USB. I was able to install Ubuntu from USB with no problems and now have a new copy of windows 7, 32 bit (computer is also 32 bit). I have tried to boot from the windows copy on the USB drive using many different tutorials as well as using the windows USB/DVD download tool. Each time I boot from the usb stick, a screen comes up that says windows failed to start. It says it may be due to a hardware problem. All other solutions to this involve using the recovery CDs or partition which I am not able to because the CD/DVD drive is broken, and I would like to not have to buy another one.

Windows Failed To Start After Clean Install

Dec 30, 2012

My computer was having some problems every time I booted it up. Upon start up, I would receive an error message saying "windows failed to start, a recent hardware or software change might have caused the problem" and would give me some options to pick from like Safe Mode options and Start Normally. I would click "start windows normally" and my computer would boot up normally and run just fine. But every time I turn my computer off, I come back the next day with the same error message. I tried running the windows repair option but it would never find anything.

I decided I would just perform a clean install and just be done with it, but after doing that, I tried booting my computer to have the SAME error message. Same thing happens, I just click start normally and it works fine. It's just a total hassle to have to deal with this error message every time I try turning my computer on. Since I performed the clean install, I have very little things re installed to the computer like Java and what not. I wouldn't think it would be Java because I have had that the entire time I have owned the computer and only recently got the error messages.

Windows 7 Failed To Start, System Repair Can't Discover?

Oct 20, 2012

been searching all over the internet on an alterative machine for a solution to a problem that occurred about an hour ago.To offer background on the machine:I upgraded it last summer with a 60gb Solid State HD to host the OS and a 700gb HD to host the bulk non-system essential files and appsI've had no anti-virus on it but occasionally run the Microsoft free Scan & Repair along with Iobits cleanup suiteThere's been this Win7.CH Trojan Horse that is occasionally detected for the past 6 months and even though I select to fix and repair, it always comes backThe machine will occasionally crash after exiting a high performance application like a videogameAfter installing the Planetside2 videogame Beta on the 700gb drive, my SS drive began to become strangely over-stuffed with files, and I could not narrow down where they originated. I uninstalled a few unessential Iobit programs and cleared my downloads and recycle bin, then something even stranger happened. The SS drive had 16gb free, while this entire time I've had it I've only managed to keep it about 2-4gb free, and the file clogging stopped from what I could tell.Anyway, a week or so later, after exiting the Planetside2 Beta application earlier the machine crashed (unsurprisingly) but upon startup, did not recover.

Startup repair unsurprisingly can't fix it, and I receive the following problem signature:The Windows Repair Problem Signature Problem Event Name: Startup Repair Offline Problem Signature 1: 6.1.7600.16385 Problem Signature 2: 6.1.7600.16385 Problem Signature 3: Unknown Problem Signature 4: 21200506 Problem Signature 5: AutoFailover Problem Signature 6: 17 Problem Signature 7: CorruptFile OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033decided to give the posted solution a go since it seemed so similar to mine.Unfortunately I did not realize that the tech tailored the solution specifically to the posters scan results, so when I tried to use the same solution, it didn't work.I'm quickly realizing that my problem is not the same...What I've tried so farI ran Chkdsk and it said F parameters aren't specified and it only took a millisecond to complete showing nothing wrong. The Startup Repair scan returns are all "0x0" errors. The afformentioned forum posts solution didn't work since it wasn't specified to my machine

Windows Failed To Start, Unable To Run System Repair

Jan 21, 2013

I have a Samsung netbook (n145) which has had a few issues starting up over the past couple months - it would prompt to run chkdsk before booting, I would let it run, and it would boot. However, yesterday I got the 'windows failed to start - a recent hardware change may be responsible' error message, and giving the option to try starting windows normally (which fails: there is a flash of BSOD and then screen goes black, and computer restarts, arriving at same 'failed to start' error). The other option is to run system repair, which also does not work: it takes ages to bring up a dialog box that searches for errors, but I have let this run for hours and it remains stuck. Tapping f4 to bring up samsung recovery also results in a stuck screen. Tapping f8 to boot to safe mode does not work either.

My main concern is having a working computer, and I can't really afford costly repairs or a new netbook. I got this one used about 1 1/2 years ago and it has no cd drive/OS boot disk (windows 7 starter came already installed). What should I do? Can I fix the hard drive, or should I replace? I am not at all technically skilled and have limited knowledge but an endless capacity to learn. I called samsung and they suggested I replace the hard drive to the tune of $100-$300 for parts alone, which is too expensive for a $100 netbook.

Error Loading OS / Missing HDs / Windows 7 Failed To Start / 0xc000000f?

Feb 10, 2012

Yesterday I came home from work to a black screen that said "Error Loading OS". Not sure how this happened, so I restarted it and it came right back to that. Spent a few minutes digging around and found out that my hard drive was not set in the BIOS as a boot drive (although no idea how that changed), so I switched it back and the computer booted fine.Today, I come home from work and again, I see the black screen that says "Error Loading OS". I restarted, went in the BIOS, and saw that of 4 hard drives in the system, only 1 (non boot) showed up. This is weird. I shut down for a few minutes, booted it back up to the BIOS, and my primary hard drive was listed again. Selected that, and Windows booted up fine.

Was using the computer for about an hour when everything just froze. The mouse still worked and moved, but nothing else at all was working. So I restarted again, and I got to a "Windows failed to start" / 0xc000000f error. Off to the BIOS again, where again, only 2 or 3 of my 4 hard drives were listed. I shut down, left it for a few minutes, rebooted back, and selected my primary drive again. Then I went ahead and created an image of my primary drive just in case.I have no idea wh thought it might be a hard drive failure, or it could be something messed up in my motherboard. I have a 64GB Crucial M4 SSD drive that is less than a year old, along with an ASRock Z68 PRO3 motherboard that was bought at the same time.
