View 9 RepliesDue to a NTFS hickup, a folder (1,3TB) ended wrongly up inside the system volume information (win7) folder. Wanted to move it back to it's root, but to no avail...
Tried take ownership, cacls, safe mode, tools etc.
Need to to really move it, because the 2TB disc had no room to do a copy. It's really a FAT/NTFS table issue.
I installed new folders, then decided I wanted to move them to become subfolders of another folder. Drag & drop (left-click) moved the folders to become subfolders, but left the folder icons in the old location as well. When I try to delete them, I get an error message saying the folder doesn't exist at that location. OK, it shouldn't, but why can't I/how do I delete the (old) folder icons?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen he came back EVERY file was moved to his desktop. I'm not talking about a few dozen files, or just doc. files. But files connected to programs, sample pics, txt. everything. Hundreds or even thousands of files have been moved onto the desktop, being layered on top. When we move a file to a temporary folder that has been created, others appear.
It sounds like every file had its address changed to be on the desktop. (ie C:UsersNameDesktop).
We are trying to get virus protection up (Norton is on the computer) but obviously the computer is only half working right now.
User, Computer, Network, and Control Panel are showing up under Desktop in windows explorer. I recently removed the fake system malware virus, which just refused to die. Everything works, but I reall don't want to have to reinstall everytWhat I want to know is how to move all the system folders back where they belong.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI had to do a system restore to a prior point (two days ago) to fix a problem on a windows 7 dell PC. It worked but it moved all of my files and user profile to my C drive. I no longer see my user account when I go to start computer. I did find my files (at least some of them) under the c drive in C/OS/Users. Is there a way to automatically get them all back where they orginally were rather than attempt to manually move them and hope I'm placing them in the correct area? I also seem to have lost all of my bookmarks and cannot recover them on Firefox - is there any way to get them back?

I have an Acer Aspire as well as an HP Compaq Presario (both running Windows 7). Both have had this problem, though the HP only happens every now and then. Now, on the Acer when I save an image/file/folder/etc to the desktop and then decide to delete it, the content is deleted but the icon stays. I have tried rebooting the computer and it does not work. The only way I can get rid of them is to create a new image/document/folder with the same name and then using the "Shredder" to delete them permanently. The shredder however is only temporary, in fact I can only use it 14 more times.

For some reason, when changing users to my wife's profile, the desktop has to be prepared each time - as a temporary profile. The folder location has moved from Users/wife to Users/Users/wife and has a lock icon on it. I have tried moving the entire folder as administrator and received a not responding message.Short of a restore in which I will lose data is there a way to 'import' her profile under a new user and then delete the corrupted profile?

I couldn't find the files I was looking for in either of those two folders. I right-clicked on the Home folder, and then clicked on Properties, thinking that the files I was looking for were hidden. I didn't realize that once I clicked on the "hidden" option that my home folder would be hidden; I brain farted and thought that function allowing me to view hidden files. She accidentally deleted an entire folder from her flash drive that had her entire semester of MBA class work. Not realizing that she deleted the folder off her flash drive she emptied her trash bin on her computer. The Folder contained two other folders and inside one folder was all her word documents and powerpoint presentations and the other folder contained all her excel files and class assignments. I have tried running a recovery program (Search & Recover - Recovered Erased Files by iolo tech) on the flash drive and the hard drive but have not gotten any results.

I right clicked, click properties, selected the "hidden" folder attribute to the administrator folder, and clicked apply to all folders, subfolders, etc. I realized this was not the right thing because it just hid all the folders inside, so I undid it.Afterwards, it kicked me off of skype and when I tried to log on again, it said my disk was full when it is obviously not and gave me the "disk i/o error"In addition, I clicked firefox and it gave me a dialog box that said "Could not initialize the browser security component, etc etc and gave me another warning about my disk being full.What did I do? Obviously my disk is not full but these two programs think it is full and is giving me error messages.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI was trying to download a trial of adobe photo shop to do my homework and i am on my moms laptop. i went to open the program and a dialog box popped up asking what program i wanted to use to open this file, (i didnt notice the checked box at the time stating it was going to use this option for all files associated with this extension!) and the only available program that was listed was WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER and i needed to use the program so i clicked on it.... wish i wouldnt have. it changed ALL my .exe programs ie; google,firefox,system restore and now anytime i try to run anything the media center comes up!!
I have seen on the web that several other people have done the same exact thing. I was freaking out cause this is not my computer and so i went to accounts and made a new admin desktop, which is what i am on now. i have found involves doing something on the actual desktop that is messed up. but i cannot open any executable files on that desktop ie;command prompt,so i cannot do anything on there.
i know there has to be some way to reverse what i did, i just need someone to walk me through the process so i dont screw the computer up any more than i already have, i am able to open system restore in the new desktop, i but dont think that will have any affect on the change i made let alone have an effect on the other desktop from this desktop. I also went to the place on the desktop to change the default for programs and .exe is not listed.
In the 'open with' context menu, I accidentally changed the running program for ALL the icons on my desktop (ie. the tickbox below the 'Other Programs' was checked when i changed the running program for an unknown file). So now, all the icons on my desktop are identical and all of them run using the same program

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've discovered how to increase the font size used for desktop icons, titlebars, menus etc via the advanced display preferences under Win7, but Outlook still uses a teensy font to render the names of my folders in the folders & favourites panels.
Does anyone know how to increase the fonts size there other than the Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display option? I don't want to increase the icon size and other font sizes, nor do I want to use the Set custom text size (DPI) tweak.
I am running Windows 7 (Home Premium 64b) with Office 2010 (Home & Bus) on our new desktop PC. Just finished installing both without problem. Have now turned to adding email accounts to Outlook. I added 4 POP3 accounts, using the wizard. The wizard's test mails - and my own independently sent test mails - have confirmed that send/receive work fine in all 4. One of the 4 has been selected as my default account.
All 4 accounts show up in the navigation pane on the far left of the screen. The default account appears at top, with a black arrowhead to the left of its name. Under it appear the standard list of system-offered subfolders: Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Junk Mail, Calendar, Contacts etc. etc.
The other three accounts are listed below this array. Each of them has a white arrowhead to the left of its name. None of these accounts has any system-offered subfolders (Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items etc) listed under it.
Question -
How do I get Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items and the other system-offered subfolders to appear under these non-default accounts in the Navigation Pane? For example, I know (from viewing the same accounts independently on my laptop) that these non-default accounts are receiving mail; however, I cannot view any of this mail because the Inboxes of these accounts are not accessible from the Navigation Pane. I would like all 3 non-default accounts to at least show Inbox, and - if possible - one of them to also show a fuller menu including Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Junk Mail etc.
I have looked everywhere in Outlook there is, but can't seem to find the path to the fix (or - if I have found it - I guess I am not recognizing it).
Windows 7 was not functioning well, so it was re-installed using restore option, then MS Office 2007 was installed, but then on right clicking the desktop, in the new option ms office 2007 programs are not visible, but folder is visible.... whereas those programs are visible in start menu.

It shows it's on the desktop when you open the Computer icon and in your browse window it's there. You can select it and it opens up and it's exactly the same as the user folder of the same name.
If you right click it, you don't reaaqlly get anything. It doesn't have a shortcut display either.If you look at the actual desktop, it's not there. Only in the browse window.
