Accidentally Moved Office Folder To Desktop?

Mar 27, 2011

I don't have a clue how I'd search for the topic. I mistakenly moved my MS Office folder out of the start menu, all programs, and cannot figure out how to put it back in there. I looked around the computer but can't find a place to put it back

Accidentally Changed The Permanent Default For .exe Programs On Desktop

Jan 20, 2012

I was trying to download a trial of adobe photo shop to do my homework and i am on my moms laptop. i went to open the program and a dialog box popped up asking what program i wanted to use to open this file, (i didnt notice the checked box at the time stating it was going to use this option for all files associated with this extension!) and the only available program that was listed was WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER and i needed to use the program so i clicked on it.... wish i wouldnt have. it changed ALL my .exe programs ie; google, firefox, system restore and now anytime i try to run anything the media center comes up!!

I have seen on the web that several other people have done the same exact thing. I was freaking out cause this is not my computer and so i went to accounts and made a new admin desktop, which is what i am on now. i have found involves doing something on the actual desktop that is messed up. but i cannot open any executable files on that desktop ie;command prompt,so i cannot do anything on there.

i know there has to be some way to reverse what i did, i just need someone to walk me through the process so i dont screw the computer up any more than i already have, i am able to open system restore in the new desktop, i but dont think that will have any affect on the change i made let alone have an effect on the other desktop from this desktop. I also went to the place on the desktop to change the default for programs and .exe is not listed.

Is there a way to find out if the "My Documents" folder of a certain users account folder has been renamed to something else? If so how does one find which folder was renamed? And can it be renamed back to "My Documents"? If so, how is the best way? yes, this is on a Windows 7 machine.

C: Drive Renamed, Can't Rename It To Anything Else

Sep 15, 2011

I recently had a virus on my computer and decided to just reinstall the OS from top as I didnt have anything vitally important anymore. My C: drive was renamed to "Alcatel PC Suite" which is the name of the software I have for my cell phone. When I right click to rename it, I can type a new name in, I can click ok, it asks for permission and I can also click ok. Im an admin and the only user for the newly installed OS. After I give it permission, it still says the old name in My Computer. However when I go to properties of my C: drive, under the general tab, it has the new name listed.

Files Not Deleting, Being Renamed, Overwritten?

Since upgrading to win 7 64bit I've had a problem where the odd file wont deleteIt's not saying its in use by the system or anything like that... it just wont delete, be renamed, or be moved.I can only think of one example right now, and that's a WAV file.I buy music online in WAV format for mixingI put them all in a folder called "new choons" at which point I run Mixed In Key on them to get their KEY - it renames the files to include the Key at the end of the file nameFrom there I put it in their appropriate genre folders in my WAV folder, leaving the new choons folder clear.I have even tried deleting or renaming the new choons folder but it wont do it.any time I open the folder indexing tries to run on it foreve

Windows 7 Backup Renamed Computer?

Jul 5, 2012

I just used Win 7 Backup on my Gateway FX6831 PC to create a second backup, and the backup it created on my external 1TB WD drive had a name of WIN PH.....CDVR, which has become my new computer name on my network. Why would this happen, can I undo it, and how do I prevent it for future backups. My original backup shows up under my original name - Tom-PC. Now since the new backup, which didn't overwrite the previous, this new name is on the network, so associations and sharing from other PC's are all screwed up. Can I get this back to the simple Tom-PC name? The PC now shows a User Profile for the WIN PH.... CDVR name as well

Hard Drives Mysteriously Renamed?

Jul 30, 2010

i am running 2 external hard drives and a Codemeter Ignition Key. All were somehow assigned their own identification letter (example: Local Disk E:, F: and so forth upon install. I had gotten used to the drives by those letters. Yesterday they all changed for some unknown reason. I tried "start - "computer" and right clicked on each drive and clicked on "rename." I was allowed to rename a drive with its original letter, but when I exited the original was there with the freshly changed previous one beside it. Eg; "Local Disk E: F:." I even tried system restore but the problem remains.Would anyone have some suggestions as to why this has occurred and how I can correct it?

Existing Folders Get Auto-renamed

Jul 19, 2010

I had just fully patched yesterday btw, before this occurred.

I created a folder on my desktop, say it was called "temp". I dragged some files into it. I created another folder on my desktop, and named it "whatever". The previous folder, "temp" now renamed itself "whatever (1)" (might have ended in (2), whatever convention Windows uses for auto-renaming)

So I renamed the original folder to "temp".

Likewise when I added a third folder bearing a different name, the first two that I had created this session were auto-renamed to become copies of my new folder name, with number suffixes on them.

Renamed User Account, But Profile And Paths Still Have Old Name

Feb 1, 2011

i got a new hp pavilion laptop; os is windows 7 home premium 64-bit. when i booted it up the first time, there was already an administrator account on it, bearing the name of the company who had sent me the laptop. i renamed the user account and the computer to my name; but the paths connected to the user profile and the user profile itself (under "users" on the c drive) still have the old name. i did some reading and it seems that one has to rename the account back to the old name, then create a new administrator account with the name one wants and transfer the profile from the old account to the new one, then delete the old account if everything is working well; however, i believe that these instructions are rather for windows xp than for windows 7, and i have no idea how to copy a profile. i am not a computer geek and cannot fiddle around with the registry, and how can i rename the profile paths and my profile folder to MY name - or is it impossible to change, and will i just have to live with it? i also hope that if the situation cannot be changed, then this is simply a cosmetic 'bug' and won't cause any problems.

D Drive Slow When Sorting - Fine When Renamed As G

Jun 26, 2012

When I try to sort a directory with a bunch of files it takes forever! I have a similar E: drive with a comparable amount of files and it's almost instant. So I figure that maybe the disk is going bad. So I get another disk and copy all my files from the d: drive to the new drive. Then I reassign the old drive to "G:" and the new drive (call it swap) back to "D:". Now the old drive (which is now "G:") sorts almost instantaneously and the new swap drive "D:" again take forever to sort! Now if I rename D: to "F:".. The sort is instantaneously! There is something with having the drive called "d:" which is screwing something up! What am I missing? Indexing is checked for all drives.

Renamed Folders In Application Data, Need To Change Them Back?

Feb 15, 2012

So the problem is had a virus called the system check virus and started going through the manual process of getting rid of it. One part of it is making hidden folders, etc accessible and then renaming the virus files so it doesnt recognise them and they stop running. While in there i accidentally changed two of the folders names which had alot of characters so i mistook it for one of the virus files.I've since learned these are windows folders and needed. was hoping someone could post a screenshot or something showing what these folders are meant to be called so i can change them back.

[IMAGES] Prevent Renamed Photos From Jumping Down The Folder Immediately?

Nov 3, 2010

In old windows, when you renamed a photo, it stayed in the same place in relation to all the other photos in the folder until you closed and then reopened the folder. Now in 7 and vista, as soon as you rename it, it gets reordered in the folder by name. It jumps away from its current position. With 250 photos in the folder, its hard to get it back.I need information on the photo to rename the next photo. Any way to make it stay in place till the folder is opened and closed? I can't find anything here in the forum or in folder properties, etc

Accidentally Deleted A Lot Of My Files

Jan 6, 2012

I recently installed Windows 7 to my SSD. Its only 64GB so I set Windows up so that the Users folder was on my seconday (X drive instead of my SSD, and setup a Program Files and Program Files (x86) on my secondary drive. I used this. I deleted the account I made when installing windows and accidenally clicked delete files as well. This deleted all of the data I had in my Users folder and many in Program Files and other places. I used Recuva, but now all of the deleted files are in one folder instead of their respective locations. Is there anything I can do aside from reinstalling and salvaging what I can and reinstalling all of my programs?

Accidentally Deleted All Documents?

Oct 20, 2010

I've just acquired a new laptop with Windows 7, and so last night used Easy Transfer to get all my documents onto the new machine. Today I've been trying to get everything in order. A few minutes ago I noticed that the documents folder contained a subfolder, also named documents, so I decided to get rid of the subfolder and place the files directly in the main documents folder. When I then deleted the subfolder, all my documents disappeared (almost 9 gigabytes). They were not in the bin, and I could not redo the deletion.Luckily I see they can be found under C:/ User/ Documents, but I cannot seem to be able to copy them to replace them in the Documents

Accidentally Dual Booted Windows 7

Mar 27, 2011

I used to have ubuntu dual booted with win 7.then i decided i didn't want ubuntu dual booted anymore and wanted my boot up to automatically boot win7.I deleted the ubuntu partition, but then I lost my boot up menu during startup. So I ran the Win 7 Ultimate disk in hopes to repair that.Instead I ended up with a fresh install that seems to be a seperate partition.the good news is it fixed my boot up , but now I have the option of 2 win 7s when I boot.I want to have just 1.and i think the one I want to keep is the fresh install, so my question is.How can I make my new install of win 7 be the only operating system on my computer. The older win7 i have is the one i have been using , but think i want to put all my data i need on a external hard drive, then delete that partition, then make the new fresh installled win 7 as my only operating system on my laptop.

The BIG problem is that the stuff on the network drive was not current, and since I cleared the offline files, they were all deleted and now she has been set back as a result of this. I want to know if there is ANY ways to recover these files...I used the following solution in order to clear it up...

I didn't realize that once I clicked on the "hidden" option that my home folder would be hidden; I brain farted and thought that function allowing me to view hidden files.
