Folder Sharing Vista Receive Unspecified Error Box

Jul 28, 2008

I'm using Home Premium x64. I can see my XP machines on my home network and access their public folders; however, they can see my Vista machine but not the public folders (the window is blank). When I try to turn on Public Folder Sharing in Vista I receive an "Unspecified error" box. Network Discovery and File Sharing are ON.

DVD Maker Hangs "unspecified Error"

Dec 15, 2008

I opened up Movie Maker and started adding to the storyboard both video clips and pictures. I joined the pics and clips with transitions. On completion i clicked on publish to DVD, and then DVD Maker started up and commenced encoding. Now this is were the trouble starts. The encoding gets to 64% and then hangs there and doesnot continue on, after about 40minutes I get another box reading "unspecified error".

To try and fix the problem i have removed each file, one at a time from my project, to try and determine if there is a bad file. After 5-6 hours of removing 1 file at a time ,saving project, and then again selecting publish to DvD and watching DVD Maker get to about 64% and stop. This didnt fix the problem. I then removed all transitions, This didnot work . Same problem appears. But now A Box comes up and I get "Catastrophic error"

Win 7 Provides No Sharing Folder

May 7, 2010

I realize this is a Vista group, but I can't seem to locate any MS Win7 group with my NG reader (TB). On my Win7 machine (Win7 Home Premium)I have marked several folders as being shared, and they remain shared at all times, but there is absolutely NO indication of the folder being shared when viewed in Explorer on that computer. In previous versions of the OS there has been the 'palm-up hand" and the little 'whatever it is' in Vista but nothing in Win7. Is it something I have to turn on somewhere, or is it just that Win7 provides no visual indication of sharing on a folder?

Folder Sharing Not Working

Aug 1, 2009

I have both a vista 64 Laptop & Desktop computer. All I want to do is share my music from my desktop with my Laptop. I have enabled the necessary sharing rights for the computers and I can access eachother's "Public" folders without a problem. However, using my laptop, I am trying to access the default "Music" folder located on my desktop computer. When I select the music folder on my desktop and click share, it asks "Choose people to share with"...I then click the down arrow next to the "Add" button to choose the laptop computer name but...I don't see the name of my laptop computer to choose. What am I missing?

Public Folder File Sharing

Apr 13, 2009

Two machines on my network, Mine is Vista 64 and my wifes is Vista 32.
My wife machine has Network descovery on File sharing on (does NOT say a password is required) Public folder sharing on (anyone with network access can open, change
and create).

The public folder share property confirms "everyone" has access write delete access.and If I ask her machine to show me all shared folders - it shows the "public" one.

When look in network places on my machine - I see hers, but when I tray and access I am prompted for password. If I give her machines Admin password (it used to be my machine) I get in to see and access the public folder.

Why is the public folder on her machine not accessible without a password?

Sorry for such a noob question - but it does not seem sensible behaviour.

Receive Error 8007000b

Mar 23, 2008

I need to do the instructions below for an error I am getting on updating. however, when I type CMD in search box I don't get any options to run as administrator and if i just type the command it states I have to be the admnistrator - how do I get around this..I am infact the only account user on my lap top, and performall tasks so why does it think I am not the administrator?

Windows Update error 8007000b: if you receive error 8007000b when you try to install Windows Vista updates, the Windows file system transaction log has become corrupted. The transaction log is used by the Windows file system to recover when a file error occurs. To correct this update error, you need to clear the log. Here's how: To clear the file system transaction log

1.Click the Start button. In the Search box, type Command Prompt, and then, in the list of results, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.

2.In the command prompt window, type fsutil resource setautoreset true C: (This assumes that C: is the drive in which Windows Vista is installed. If Windows is installed on another drive, change the drive letter accordingly.)

3.Restart your computer.

4.Download and install the update again.

Receive Blue Screen Error Messages

Apr 10, 2008

I recently bought a computer which I built by myself with some friends, and I have had some problems. Upon installation of Windows Home Premium 64 bit, I receive blue screen error messages. Usually they happen when I am trying to open a file, or if I am installing updates for anything. It either goes to a blue screen, or it will completely freeze, and I'll have to reboot. Sometimes upon rebooting, my computer will get stuck in between the loading screens for Vista, it will get past the Microsoft Corporation loading bar, but get stuck on a black screen before the vista symbol shows up. I have some friends that think its my RAM, because I have had 2 sticks of ram in, totaling 4gb, and others think its the Video card. below is a list of all my components.

I can see the files and its sizes, but I cannot copy them to my notebook or open them directly from the share without getting an "access denied" error. I installed the PC's encryption certificate on my notebook (as documented in Vista's help) but keep getting the "access denied" error. I have no issues with copying or opening files on the network share that are not encrypted. The error message only appears when trying to copy/open encrypted files.

Sharing Between XP And Vista

Mar 23, 2008

We have a combination wired/wireless home network in my house, consisting of 4 computers, all connected through the router which connects directly to the internet. The configuration is this:

Desktop1 - connected directly to router, running XP
Desktop2- connected directly to router, running Vista
Laptop1 - connected wirelessly, running Vista
Laptop2- connected wirelessly, running XP.

As of right now, Desktop 2, Laptop1 and Laptop 2 have no problems sharing files with each other. Desktop 1 can view all the other computers shared files, but Laptop1 cannot
view any of Desktop 1's shared files. I consistently get a "denied access" message.

I don't know if the other computers can access Desktop1 (they aren't my computers). It's most important to get Laptop1 and Desktop1 to share files. All computers have shared files/printers on, with password protection off, and I've gone through the network wizards over and over.

I should mention that Laptop1 can *view* Desktop1 on the network. It sees it, it knows it's there...but the Desktop will not allow access, even though the files on the Desktop are set to be shared. I also tried turning the firewall off, and it still would not grant access. None of the other computers are having issues...there's go to be a solution to this, I'm just not finding it.

I have Windows XP professional with SP2 on an old slow desktop computer connected via 100mb Ethernet Cable to a speedtouch DSL router. I only have two compters on the network. The other computer is a brand new Sony Vaio laptop with Window Vista Home Premium, with all service packs applied. It is connected wireless via the SpeedTouch DSL Router. The XP can Ping the Vista and the Vista can ping the XP. The XP can browse all folders on the vista and open documents and all is well in that direction.

The Vista can see the XP Computer and can see the shared folders on it as well as the printers, but if you try to open the folders that you see, you get an error message that says you probobly don't have the proper security permissions. It hangs there for 3 or 4 minutes before it produces that error...............

File Sharing Between XP And Vista

Oct 16, 2009

I just purchased a new Toshiba laptop. It is 64 bit with Vista Home Premium. Desktop is Compaq with XP. Connection between the two is cable direct connect through a Linksys router. Occasionally I do go wireless. Its a very simple network and its doesn't require any security since i am the only person that uses both computers. Toshiba can read and write files on Compaq.

Compaq can see the Toshiba in its network places but when I double-click on it, I get a request for a username and password which I do not know what to respond to since I have no passwords set on the Toshiba. I've set sharing on Toshiba C-drive and even turned off the Windows Firewall. How do I turn the password prompt off or at least know what to respond.

Internet Connection Sharing Between XP And Vista

Both the pc's can ping each other and I've successfully configured them for sharing files and folders. But even though I've shared the gprs dialup connection on XP and selected the corresponding local area connection, Vista is not letting me access to the Internet! I have even disabled the firewall but it's still showing Local only.

Failed Windows Sharing WITH TWO VISTA Machines

Aug 6, 2008

I am having is I cannot acess my laptop with windows sharing/networking.I am trying to share files and printers between my Dexktop PC and my Laptop. My desktop PC is connect to a router with DNS by cable and the laptop is connected by Wi-Fi.Both computers belong to the same workgroup(WORKGROUP).Both computers have password protected public folder and printer sharing, file sharing, network discovery, and password protected sharing enabled. Both computers do have shared files and printers. What's happening is from the laptop the desktop(RK-PC)appears and I can share files and printers flawlessly and very quickly. However from the desktop while the laptop (RYANK-MOBILE) appears it cannot be accessed at all. Also the desktop is vista 64 bit and the laptop is vista business.I saw another thread with the same problem but the response pointed to a tome of an article that explained every single facet of windows sharing down to the way the packets are constructed. To be honest I don't have time to read 100 pages on windows sharing and there is no way the problem is the complicated.None of the suggestions I read in the first five pages or so helped at all any ways.I tried changing netBIOS from default to disabled on both PCs but after doing this the result was normal function on the laptop as before but the desktop could no longer even see/discover the laptop on the network.

Reinstall Vista's Network And Sharing Center- Weird Bug

May 29, 2008

I have one the strangest bugs ever created; and no one else seems to get it. I cannot detect any (very very few; not even my XP Machines, will explain
soon) of my computers on any network (wireless) I connect to. When I installed Vista bare clean, it did detect my netword computers, even the XP ones. But now, I feel like I should reinstall Vista. But, I really don't want to restore all (I have over 40gb) of my data. That would just take forever. Is there anyway at all to restore ALL Vista's Networking features/software to normal. Or back to default. I cannot restore using System Restore. I have been having this for about a month now, and it really messes me up! Over a week of using it, I just cannot detect any of my Networks. I can in Ubuntu; but not in Vista (my primary OS). I really love Windows. But, this is one of the worst glitches I have ever had with it.

Is it possible to reinstall Vista's Network and Sharing Center? I really want to detect my XP machines again. You might say, install LTDD (??) onto the XP machines. Well, the problem is, it still does not work. When I was using this PC a while ago, they were detected fine. But now, I cannot find any PC (hardly any; dunno why) on my network. This even happens at my Local Library. My friend searched, and he found over 200.
