Mar 26, 2008i have a legal vista ultimate license unused on any machine and NOT OEM. i would like to install vista ultimate 64 on a new laptop. it came preinstalled with home premium 32 (the T7500 processor so it can take 64bit) i would like to create a custom install disk containing the OS and the HP vista 64 drivers. I would also like if possible to include some of the pre installed bloatware (I know, I know, I dont want MS works or norton, but I would not mind the HP help system and the system monitors and system update etc).
I have created a recovery disk which contains 6 or 7 .wim files each about the size of a CD. I presume the windows (home premium) as well as all the bloatware and drivers are included in these image files. I installed the WAIK and tried to use to GUI image manager (or whatever it is called) to mount the files but could not. I was able to dir using imageX command line, but was unable to mount the image file or files using imagex /mount rw if i could somehow accomplish this maybe i could build a custom image file with the ultimate 64 and drivers and etc/ I guess an alternative is to use vlite, and HP vista 64 drivers that I download
Windows Media Center And Image Files
Mar 23, 2008I've had Vista Home Premium installed on my desktop PC for over a year now, but I never used Windows Media Center until recently and noticed this problem when I purchased a Media Center Extender. After choosing the folders (music, video and image) that I wanted in my WMC library (on BOTH my desktop PC AND Media Center Extender), only my image files do not appear in the libraries. Under "Picture Library" (again, on both units), all folders and sub-folders which I selected are shown but contain no "items". The files which I desire to view are .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, and .bmp formats and I have converted some back and forth between formats to see if that changed anything. Can anyone steer me in the right direction on this?

1. Backed up C: using Windows Complete PC Backup. (6 DVDs no errors.)
2. Removed old HD and inserted new.
3. Booted Windows Vista install DVD. (I proceeded to partition HD but did not complete the install.)
4. From Windows Recovery Environment, I chose Windows Complete PC Restore.
5. Inserted Backup image DVD disc1.
6. When it looked for the location of the image it couldn't find it so it fails.

System Backup Clone Image
May 2, 2009I have an HP laptop that came with Vista Home Premium installed.
Two drivers, the C: driver as usual and a 'D:' driver also known as "HP_RECOVERY".
Now my question is very simple and basic yet I'm baffled not figuring out a way to do it.
Is it possible to clone the image of the OS I'm running currently to that D: drive? What software do I use to do that?
I will also need to mention that the drive size is ~8GB so it's very small. If there is a way to clone the current image to that drive, i will have to extend it and make it bigger, how would you do that also
How To Create System Builder Image?
Dec 16, 2008I am interested in creating a system which works like everyday DELL's/HP's/SONY's etc where the HDD has a partition with an activate image of the OS. The boot menu lets you boot from the HDD by default but if the system needs to be cleaned (restored to factory defaults) it is as simple as choosing a option in the boot menu which simply installs the OS (activated i.e. no frequent activations) which still keeping almost every file I created personally.
FYI, I am trying to build my own system using Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit and would like to keep an activated image of my system that can restored anytime I need to start all over again. EDIT: I am only interested in going back to when the image was created. Ocassionally I would like to update the image when major service packs are released and tested

Jan 28, 2010my windows desktop manager crashes at login. when ever i try to load a picture file. explorer crashes. is there a way to verify the system files with out reformatting? what happened is my old hard drive started getting bad sectors. I'm guessing that some of my system files were corrupt when i did compleate back up. that was before i knew that my hard drive was having issues.

Nov 8, 2008I have Acronis True Image and before I went the dual boot system route (XP + Vista x64), I made an image of my XP system but now that I am comfortable with both OS's, I would like to know if Acronis can make an image of my drive including both systems?
Before attempting to do this on my own and botching the already good image I have, I would like to hear it from the Gurus so... what say you? Oh, also, I have heard that Acronis can do this but nobody specified if I should start Acronis in Vista or in XP and that is another thing that baffles me. It shouldn't matter where I start the image process but making sure is my first priority since I tend to screw up things fairly quick when I go out guns blazing (so to speak!)
Windows Explorer (File Manager) Folder Formatting?
Apr 15, 2010Is there any way to format folder file display for a group of folders (or subfolders) in file manager? I need to be able to do this to display my contacts properly, for example. It looks like you can either format file inforamation display for all the folders or an individual folder (one-at-a-time), but not a group of folders. If this is true, why?

Which program offers the most features for disk image creation? I know it will be impossible for me to restore image from command boot option, but what the options I have? Apr 8, 2009I have a friend who asked me to look at his HPA1737C desktop running Vista Home Premium tonight and most, if not all of his System32 processes, are no longer accessible. System Restore, Device Manager, MSCONFIG. etc cannot be opened and seemingly also anything System32 file related. Even the Volume icon in Taskbar has a Red X on it. I placed computer in SafeMode and selected Restore To Last Known Good Configuration and it had no affect on restoring. I could access the internet with IE7 and he can send email with no problems. Cannot uninstall or install any applications. He did install some Windows Updates KB867812, KB959772, KB960225, and KB958690 a few days back, but I see nothing in the Vista Newsgroup that would make these possibly related to his problem. Has Norton AV with latest definitions and full scan indicates no problems. I have set up a few Vista systems, but my expertise is XP related.

Apr 24, 2009I am running Wondow XP professional on an Athlon AMD64 with an Abit UL8 motherboard and Sata HDD. I am trying to do a new install because Vista won't allow upgrade from XP professional. I have reached the stage in installation when I get the blue screen with a 'MACHINE CHECK EXCEPTION' warning. Having restarted from this error message and rebooting from Hard drive I get the option of booting from 'windows setup' or 'previous operationg system'. If I select 'windows setup' I get the following error:

Status: 0xc000000f.
The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
Upgrading From XP Professional X64 To 32?
Apr 8, 2008I haven't been able to find any information on this so here it goes. I recently bought a computer with xp pro x64 and was wondering if it is possible to upgrade it to vista 32 bit with a standard vista home basic (or premium, whatever) upgrade version. The reason for this is I intended this computer to be used for home recording projects and Pro Tools (recording program) does not support xp x64 or vista x64, and it doesn't look like it will any time soon. So these are my questions:
-Will I need to do a clean install and still be able to use a vista upgrade version?
-Will I have to get a full new version of vista?
-Is it even possible?
SuperAntiSpyware Professional Expires Prematurely
Feb 2, 2010My son's HP laptop (Vista Basic, Firefox, 1.5 GB RAM) has been running quite well with MBAM, SuperAntiSpyware Professional installed for about a month.
All of sudden the free-to-try version of SuperAntiSpyware professional says it's expired after only 30 days. An uninstall and re-install did nothing.---the programs still says it's expired right after the install completes. It's possible that a system restore was done a few weeks ago for another issue.
If we tried to download a fresh version of the program to a flash drive and Run if from there, would that set the timer clock back to zero?
Does anyone have a work-around so that we can get either another year on this program or the rest of the time `due us' back?
Installing Office Professional 2010
May 15, 2010I have a Samsung netbook with Windows 7 starter edition, 250GB HD and 1MB of RAM. I purchased it with a trial version of Office Home and Student which has expired. I am a public sector employee which entitles me to a discount on Microsoft Office Professional 2010 which I have downloaded and installed after unistalling Home and Student 2007 using the Programs and Features in Control Panel.
Now, when I open Excel 2010, if I make a new file and save it, it works fine. But when I try to open an Excel file from Office 2007 or 2003, it will open but if I try to change the file or save it as an Office 2010 file, excel stops working and shuts down. Windows has no solutions to this problem. I have checked for updates, but all that windows update offers are updates for the 2007 version of Office.
