my windows desktop manager crashes at login. when ever i try to load a picture file. explorer crashes. is there a way to verify the system files with out reformatting? what happened is my old hard drive started getting bad sectors. I'm guessing that some of my system files were corrupt when i did compleate back up. that was before i knew that my hard drive was having issues.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe tried to restart the computer manually, but to no avail. Vista loaded Windows, but before prompting me with a login screen, it dumbed again. We then tried to boot it in safe mode. Everything works fine there, so we tried to reboot normally again. Another dumb. We tried yet again, after removing the disc. Nothing. Since then we've tried system recovery to set it back a few days, we've tried to let it repair itself, we've tried to unplug everything (everything - mouse, keyboard, sound - everything but the monitor). The monitor, by the way, have some weird lines running down the screen, which notably aren't there when booting in safe mode.

I'm having an issue with new users on my vista business machine. My current user account is working fine, however when I create a new account, either through control panel or through "local users and groups" option by right clicking computer. The account creates and is apparently all ready to go, however when I try log in to the account, i get an error: "the windows login service service failed the login, the user profile could not be loaded". I also notice that in C:users folder, there is no folder with the new account I created, i assume that is why the error is appearing. I have done numerious virus scans, with norton, so thats not the issue. I have found other problems on the internet but they only appear to be having problems with the main account, my main administrator account works fine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedBought a Toshiba Satellite A100 from ebay with a cracked screen. I changed the screen yesterday, and the laptop worked well with no problems. Then today I decided to do a fresh installation of Vista because of all the previous owner had the hard drive in a bit of a mess. I installed using my normal Vista Anytime Upgrade disk and as soon as it finished installing I started getting all these messages like "Windows Modules installer has stopped working", "Desktop Window Manager has stopped working" and "TFncKy has stopped working". Things I've tried include reinstalling Vista from another disk. Using a different hard drive, changed the ram, installed all the proper drivers, installed vista updates (won't let me install SP1), staring at it menacingly & banging my head off the desk.

I restarted, and after typing in my password I get "My Documents" open on a black screen, nothing else, no taskbar or desktop icons or anything. When i try to open the "taskbar and start menu" icon in Control Panel, nothing happens. Also, when I Ctrl-Alt-Del the usual screen comes up, but the task manager is no longer an option, and i can't think of how to access it or my taskbar. I've installed all the servfice packs and they haven't helped.

On vista the administrator account is showing as a icon on the login screen. I dont want this to be visible, any ideas how to hide this?. I saw a registry hack but this removes the icon but it seems in doing so there is then no way to login without the icon.

I get an error: "share is not accessible. You might not have permission (which I know my login/pass does becuase I'm logged in with XP on two other boxes). But there's the paragraph; "Multiple connections to a server or shared resouces by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed, Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again". What the heck I want to keep the same login (ME) to access a devise... is this really how it has to be with Vista?
Why does Vista sit there for ages after pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del , and entering username and passwords. Its just says "Welcome" with a spinny circle. 2-3 minutes later the desktop arrives! Nothing in the event log, same laptop with XP installed does the applying/loading personal seetings in about 10-15 seconds. Why does Vista when on the logon screen change the "Logon to" part from the domain the local PC name when i type "Administrator" in the box? Does not do it on any other account!, very annoying having to type domainadministrator on the main logon screen.
Why does Vista take 4x longer to install anything than XP does on my laptop? XP installed the standalone flash player in less than 10 seconds. Minutes later i'm still waiting for Vista to get on with it. Why when i open our shared area thats on our 2003 server does Vista take more than 5 minutes to load it, when XP does it in less than 1 second? No matter which hardware i try Vista on, same result. Think somebody needs to start selling XP again, it works.

I have tried everything from modifying the user accounts to not need to enter a password (unable to do that -- I don't have that option) to editing the registry to installing Autologon from Sysinternals and a couple things I can't think of right now. Two days ago it suddenly decided that it required me to sign in to be able to retrieve/send my mail. I have entered my username and the correct password in a whole heap of different ways but it just keeps rejecting anything I type in even though I know that they are correct. After the drama to find the required drivers for it, all seemed to work fine. All updates for the system and the drivers where downloaded. Anyhow, suddenly the system started to show a warning telling that there was a problem with the STacSV.exe
Now it does not appear very often, but the system freezes and it is needed to reinitiate it turning off the machine. I've noticed that it hapens when I use itunes, WM or play pictures in a presentation mode. If the machine goes to hibernation mode, it won´t wake up, so it is needed to turn it off again. I am unable to use the windows media center as well. Would it be OK to reinstall all the drivers? Do I have to run the Windows Vista installation in repair mode or reinstall it clean again ?
why shouldn't they feel that way? Windows XP is noticeably faster than Vista on the same hardware, and it gets by with much less RAM and hard drive space. Microsoft's Service Pack 3 makes XP even faster, but the same cannot be said of Vista's Service Pack 1. And Windows Explorer crashes far more often in Vista (preceded, of course, by the notorious Green Ribbon of Death). Why, XP's staggeringly superior hardware support alone makes a convincing case for dumping Vista in favor of its predecessor.
Problem is, downgrading a Vista PC to Windows XP can be a chore, and doubly so if you want to do it without reformatting your hard disk. Every time I download a file from the net, and right click in the save-as dialog box, the windows explorer crashes and have to be restarted or shut down. Repeatedly entering it via the popup or the accounts window, checking and unchecking the remember password button, using ok button or apply button, nothing seems to help. I can just leave it running obviously, but if I close and reopen it, or restart my machine, I have to type them in again, which is a pain.
