I realize this group is for Windows Vista, but since Windows 7 is mostly Windows Vista, I'm hoping solutions that work for Vista will work for Windows 7. I have a Windows 7 RC box attached to my active directory (2003) and am trying to set it up to automatically log onto the network. Has anyone here been able to do this with Vista?
I have tried everything from modifying the user accounts to not need to enter a password (unable to do that -- I don't have that option) to editing the registry to installing Autologon from Sysinternals and a couple things I can't think of right now. If anyone has successfully managed this, please let me know, especially if you've done it on a Windows 7 box. :-)
I'm having an issue with new users on my vista business machine. My current user account is working fine, however when I create a new account, either through control panel or through "local users and groups" option by right clicking computer. The account creates and is apparently all ready to go, however when I try log in to the account, i get an error: "the windows login service service failed the login, the user profile could not be loaded". I also notice that in C:users folder, there is no folder with the new account I created, i assume that is why the error is appearing. I have done numerious virus scans, with norton, so thats not the issue. I have found other problems on the internet but they only appear to be having problems with the main account, my main administrator account works fine.
With xp you can press control/alt/delete to get a login screen up then login using the administrator account. On vista the administrator account is showing as a icon on the login screen. I dont want this to be visible, any ideas how to hide this?. I saw a registry hack but this removes the icon but it seems in doing so there is then no way to login without the icon.
What's up with Vista 64 (Vista) not allowing the same user; login/pass to acess a network device? I've got a small network in my office and I have just purchased a new laptop with Vista64 on it. I'm trying to access a Network drive device with my login/pass (it works on all other computers) but not the Vista64 box?
I get an error: "share is not accessible. You might not have permission (which I know my login/pass does becuase I'm logged in with XP on two other boxes). But there's the paragraph; "Multiple connections to a server or shared resouces by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed, Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again". What the heck I want to keep the same login (ME) to access a devise... is this really how it has to be with Vista?
People say auto replies cannot be set up in Windows Mail... but they can... When using Outlook Express I set up an auto reply while i was on vacation and could never turn it off... it has nothing to do with message rules, because I deleted all rules... when i migrated to Windows Mail in Vista... the auto reply still happens... i can't find a way to turn it off...
I have successfully setup a lab of computers to auto-logon using the below registry keys. My problem is I am unable to bypass the auto-logon now. You can bypass it by holding down shift in Windows XP but that does not work in Vista Business.
all of a sudden my windows firewall has gone off and I cannot put it back on manually or auto. I have scanned my system with 3 virus programs and spyware programs and all is clear. I do not have any Norton software on my pc but the only thing I have done recently is put a new netgear wireless router on my system. running vista home premium all up to date
I have been develop a PHP program to send an email with UTP-8... I manage to display the subject in chinese word... but the content failed to display Chinese characters... until I change the encoding manually in the menu.
Why does Vista sit there for ages after pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del , and entering username and passwords. Its just says "Welcome" with a spinny circle. 2-3 minutes later the desktop arrives! Nothing in the event log, same laptop with XP installed does the applying/loading personal seetings in about 10-15 seconds. Why does Vista when on the logon screen change the "Logon to" part from the domain the local PC name when i type "Administrator" in the box? Does not do it on any other account!, very annoying having to type domainadministrator on the main logon screen.
Why does Vista take 4x longer to install anything than XP does on my laptop? XP installed the standalone flash player in less than 10 seconds. Minutes later i'm still waiting for Vista to get on with it. Why when i open our shared area thats on our 2003 server does Vista take more than 5 minutes to load it, when XP does it in less than 1 second? No matter which hardware i try Vista on, same result. Think somebody needs to start selling XP again, it works.
the latest Vista updates were downloaded to my computer. I didn't restart my computer after the updates were downloaded. When I turned on my laptop this morning, the Startup Repair window comes up because windows failed to start. I've run the repair several times, and it's unable to repair. It lists the following
problem details: Problem Event Name: StartupRepariV2 Problem Signature 01: AutoFailover Problem Signature 02: 6.0.6000.163686.6.0.6001.1800 Problem Signature 03: 5 Problem Signature 04: 262148 Problem Signature 05: BadDriver Problem Signature 06: BadDriver Problem Signature 07: 0 Problem Signature 08: 3 Problem Signature 09: WrpRepair Problem Signature 10: 10 OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1 Local ID: 1033
So, I see that part (if not all) of the problem is bad drivers. Why is this so and how can I fix it? I have a Gateway M-Series laptop (about 10 months old).
I'm trying to setup my yahoo.com.au account in windows mail and can't even login. Here is the error message. Account: 'Craig Yahoo', erver: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com.au', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18
I am trying to set up my work email on my laptop (Vista, Windows Mail). I have set up the account but when I try to send/receive I get a pop up asking for my user name and password. This repeats until I get an error message:
Account:'mail.highlandtrails.com', Server: 'mail.highlandtrails.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Login failed.', Port:110, Secure (SSL):No, Server Error:0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
How do i get my games to auto play and auto run in win Vista? Any other installation disk will auto run, but not games? I even installed 4 virtual drives from Farstone Pro. It has an auto play and auto run feature in it. But it doesn't work either?
Use Windows Mail in conjunction with that e-mail address for a long time now. Two days ago it suddenly decided that it required me to sign in to be able to retrieve/send my mail. I have entered my username and the correct password in a whole heap of different ways but it just keeps rejecting anything I type in even though I know that they are correct. I have even checked all the settings against my husband's computer and they are the same other than the username and yet he can still use his Windows Mail account but I can't - it is so infuriating considering that I run a business from home and I need access!
This is the message I keep getting after it rejects my sign in information (I have removed my actual name for privacy reasons) - Account: 'my name', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR popgate argument(s) missing.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC91
I am unable to access my windows mail, it has started asking me for my user name and password and i have tried every combination and i cant get in, i use AVG free version 9 fro virus protection - i read in another message this can sometimes affect it. i am getting the same message as the other person who had the same problem, they were using norton anti virus.
I'm extremely paranoid about my computer and am looking for a way to set up Windows Vista so that if the windows login password incorrectly more than once it will nuke the HD? Does Vista do anything like that? Or is there another program someone.
windows security is asking me for logon and password, error message: Account: 'bellsouth.net', Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR login failed', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
I have a laptop that was manufacturer by TOSHIBA with Vista Home Premium OS. And I haven't used it in awhile, so I kinda forgot the Windows Login Password. It's only one account on it, the "Administrator" account. So the problem is I need to login on that laptop, but sadly, I didn't make a "reset disk" for the password on it. Is there anyway I can ever log back onto it?
No idea what caused this, it was working fine, I closed and opened it, it suddenly wanted username/password for both accounts. Repeatedly entering it via the popup or the accounts window, checking and unchecking the remember password button, using ok button or apply button, nothing seems to help. I can just leave it running obviously, but if I close and reopen it, or restart my machine, I have to type them in again, which is a pain.
I have never had to use a password to get or send messages. Today I logged on after not being on for a week and now windows security is asking for a logon name and password. What the heck happened? I have been slowly downloading the updates and yes I am behind in downloading them. I am on dialup so it takes a while to download them. Is this some type of new security? I don't want to lose the emails I have by setting up a new account.
my windows desktop manager crashes at login. when ever i try to load a picture file. explorer crashes. is there a way to verify the system files with out reformatting? what happened is my old hard drive started getting bad sectors. I'm guessing that some of my system files were corrupt when i did compleate back up. that was before i knew that my hard drive was having issues.
my laptop screen stops working when login to windows (when in normal boot mode). So when i boot in safe mode it does work! also i don't know when it stop working in vista since i normally always work with my tv, you see and rarely switch back to my laptop screen. so what i have tried so far: reinstalled the VGA drivers fn+f3
everytime i start up my laptop it just gets to the part where u have to put ur password but instead it says its installing updates it got stuck on update number 3 of 3 at 0% and it wont move it left it on for like 2 hours straight and it just stays like that after like a few minutes it just says shutting down. and the cycle starts over again it keeps doing that never any change anyone knows whats wrong with it and what i can do to fix it the laptop is a Toshiba Satellite.
I have three PCs in my house running Vista. Before installing SP1, allof them would routinely go to sleep automatically, as per the powermanagement settings. Since installing SP1, they continue running without ever going into sleep mode. I can still enter sleep mode manually, which works fine, it's just the automatic sleep that won't work.Only software in common across all three machines (other than Vista)is Office 2007 and Windows Live OneCare. Both were installed prior to installing SP1.
When ever I try to mount COD4 onto virtual drive in Vistax64 using various emulation apps (they all do the same thing) it just mounts it to the drive, doesn't bring up the auto run and when I try to run the setup.exe manually it just says that the program you are trying to install is not compatible with this version of windows. Yet I thought COD4 was compatible with x64.
I am set to auto retrieve email every 10 minutes and to retrieve email each time I start mail. It retrieves each time I start mail but never auto retrieves email regardless of the time frequency that I have set. I have tried turning off the retrieve when started and that does not make the auto detect work either. This option worked when I initially started mail but stopped working shortly there after.
I 've changed the avi files to open with wmp and i have also set associate file type to wmp in default programes. Still wmp will not open avi's when i double click on them nothing happens not even an error code appears? i have to drag and drop the avi files to get wmp to play them.
This may seem like a minor inconvenience but it's still an inconvenience, this only applies to avi files for some reason?
Before SP1 was installed, whenever I created a new folder, and then clicked on the folder icon while I was changing the name from "New Folder" to whatever (or pressed <ENTER>), I would immediately go into that folder, so that I would not have to double-click it to go in. Since I installed SP1, this is not happening. Is there any way of re-enabling this feature?
