I'm extremely paranoid about my computer and am looking for a way to set up Windows Vista so that if the windows login password incorrectly more than once it will nuke the HD? Does Vista do anything like that? Or is there another program someone.

After doing a disk cleanup, I cannot login.The system boots up, I get the users icons window, but after select and input the password, I'm stuck in 'Welcome' window for ever.
I can login in safe mode, I activate the built-in administrator account, I create a new account (administrator) but no use, trying to login with these new accounts, get same results.
I made the ntbtlog file - last line is about loading the cdfs.sys file.Tried system restore, startup repair - no results, same issue in login.Can I get some ideas where to search the reason and eliminate the cause?I'm trying to avoid 'new clean install'.
I have a 3month old PC - clean installed with Vista Home Prem OEM. As of 8 days ago will not finish booting - simply ends with a mouse pointer on a black screen (pointer moves when mouse is moved). Have tried - everything - full memory diagnostics, chkdsk /r, System restore (found no restore points), all SAFE modes, Last good config. In place upgrade is disabled as it is an OEM build. Intel P35 chipset MB, E6850 CPU. No new hardware installed. No bug check codes displayed (no blue screen). Was fully up to date with WU, and drivers - and was running well since built. It is as if the profile is corrupt - but there was no indication of a problem. If this was Win XP I would do a Repair Install. Obviously no way to do that in Vista. This was before SP1 came out this week. The drive has been fully scanned for virii and spyware (HDD added to a clean working system and scanned), came up clean. I do not want to give up and clean install - there has to be another way. I have been a PC tech since 1986 - and VERY RARELY give up.

My current user account is working fine, however when I create a new account, either through control panel or through "local users and groups" option by right clicking computer. The account creates and is apparently all ready to go, however when I try log in to the account, i get an error: "the windows login service service failed the login, the user profile could not be loaded". I also notice that in C:users folder, there is no folder with the new account I created, i assume that is why the error is appearing. I have done numerious virus scans, with norton, so thats not the issue. I have found other problems on the internet but they only appear to be having problems with the main account, my main administrator account works fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedPurchased an HP notebook with premium and set it up but did not activate yet. Then purchased an Ultimate Upgrade with anytime upgrade. Installed the upgrade using the key from the bottom of the PC when it asked for the current product key. No errors. Finishes the upgrade and restarts and still is running Home Premium. Why did ultimate not take? We need ultimate to login to a domain.

On vista the administrator account is showing as a icon on the login screen. I dont want this to be visible, any ideas how to hide this?. I saw a registry hack but this removes the icon but it seems in doing so there is then no way to login without the icon.

I'm trying to access a Network drive device with my login/pass (it works on all other computers) but not the Vista64 box?
I get an error: "share is not accessible. You might not have permission (which I know my login/pass does becuase I'm logged in with XP on two other boxes). But there's the paragraph; "Multiple connections to a server or shared resouces by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed, Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again". What the heck I want to keep the same login (ME) to access a devise... is this really how it has to be with Vista?
Why does Vista sit there for ages after pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del , and entering username and passwords. Its just says "Welcome" with a spinny circle. 2-3 minutes later the desktop arrives! Nothing in the event log, same laptop with XP installed does the applying/loading personal seetings in about 10-15 seconds. Why does Vista when on the logon screen change the "Logon to" part from the domain the local PC name when i type "Administrator" in the box? Does not do it on any other account!, very annoying having to type domainadministrator on the main logon screen.
Why does Vista take 4x longer to install anything than XP does on my laptop? XP installed the standalone flash player in less than 10 seconds. Minutes later i'm still waiting for Vista to get on with it. Why when i open our shared area thats on our 2003 server does Vista take more than 5 minutes to load it, when XP does it in less than 1 second? No matter which hardware i try Vista on, same result. Think somebody needs to start selling XP again, it works.

I have a Windows 7 RC box attached to my active directory (2003) and am trying to set it up to automatically log onto the network. Has anyone here been able to do this with Vista?
I have tried everything from modifying the user accounts to not need to enter a password (unable to do that -- I don't have that option) to editing the registry to installing Autologon from Sysinternals and a couple things I can't think of right now. If anyone has successfully managed this, please let me know, especially if you've done it on a Windows 7 box. :-)

i was on Internet earlier today when i noticed that the videos were already completed buferring, but the videos were lagging; and firefox was performing kind of slow. i decided to re-start my computer. after re-starting the computer the logon process took extremely long, then an error message appeared: logon process has failed to create the security options dialog. failure - security options. i waited for the desktop to appear, then re-started again. but the perofrmance of the logon is still extremely slow. any suggestions?

Two days ago it suddenly decided that it required me to sign in to be able to retrieve/send my mail. I have entered my username and the correct password in a whole heap of different ways but it just keeps rejecting anything I type in even though I know that they are correct. I have even checked all the settings against my husband's computer and they are the same other than the username and yet he can still use his Windows Mail account but I can't - it is so infuriating considering that I run a business from home and I need access!

I am unable to access my windows mail, it has started asking me for my user name and password and i have tried every combination and i cant get in, i use AVG free version 9 fro virus protection - i read in another message this can sometimes affect it. i am getting the same message as the other person who had the same problem, they were using norton anti virus.

It's only one account on it, the "Administrator" account. So the problem is I need to login on that laptop, but sadly, I didn't make a "reset disk" for the password on it. Is this safe and if not, can I turn off the preview mode. Who needs it. If I select a message, even to right click it, so I can delete it, it goes into preview mode. Is this strange or is it just me.

Repeatedly entering it via the popup or the accounts window, checking and unchecking the remember password button, using ok button or apply button, nothing seems to help. I can just leave it running obviously, but if I close and reopen it, or restart my machine, I have to type them in again, which is a pain.

Today I logged on after not being on for a week and now windows security is asking for a logon name and password. What the heck happened? I have been slowly downloading the updates and yes I am behind in downloading them. I am on dialup so it takes a while to download them. Is this some type of new security? When i tried that, I couldn't enable, it showed ''The Security center service can't be started'' and froze my Windows (I couldn't click anything, my keyboard was freezed and seems that it loads something all the time and never stops). So I restarted my PC and logged in same profile and it freezes again.Now I can only use PC in safe modes and my other Windows User profile.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI believe I have a (Vista Ultimate x64 RC-1? Already has SP1) cd. I can install it fine. I can then install the correct drivers for my hardware. And all works well, until... I use windows updates and select the 'important' only updates. After that, I'm stuck in a boot-loop. And by boot-loop, I mean I can't get into windows OR safe-mode. I have done this 2 times so far. It definitely only happens when I run the updates (can work perfectly fine for days w/o the updates).It's like I'm just now allowed to have an updated version of Vista. I made a restore point prior to the updates, so I can get back to where I was, but I obviously can't run an outdated OS all the time.

View 7 Replies View Relatedi bought a 64 bit version of vista and i have built a new system with an asus p5e mobo 4gb of ram 8800 gt graphics and everything shows to install at the complete installation time it reboots and it then tells me windows did not shut down properly and and give me the safe mode option or boot windows normally when i hit safe mode it says it cannot boot into safe mode and when i hit boot normally it says the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected problem and cannot proceed. to install press ok to restart and start the whole installation process over again.

1.) A week ago Brink said SP1 was not available through Windows Update( WU ), while at the same time .Joe indicated it was available in website and WU. ( I read those threads .)
2.) Someone said something about driver not upgraded and therefore it was not offered in the WU for those users. Does that mean I'm one of those?
3.) .Joe said that there are 2 prequisites for installing SP1 (it's from the same thread I mentioned .)
a) First prerequsite includes updates to the servicing stack, which I never saw it in WU.
b) 2nd includes updates required to reliably install or uninstall the service pack, which I never saw in WU either.
4.) We all saw the " horror stories " posted in this forum regarding problems during installing and after installing SP1. It got me worried.
5.) I still do not see SP1 offered in WU, optional or otherwise.
i dont have a windows disc (one was not supplied when pc purchased) and i had a few problems booting up windows, i managed to sort it but i am paranoid now incase it happens again as i don't have a boot disc so the above sounds perfect, but i don't have a clue where to start.

The email address I get by defaut on Windows mail is Yahoo.com. I have no idea what the POP3 and SMTP are for my Windows mail account. I tried incoming.verizon.net which is verizon's POP3 and outgoing.verizon.net which is verizon's SMTP but nothing works. Some retarded error always comes up.
