Apr 5, 2008I've installed windows vista ultimate x64 in a brand new Gateway GT4220m that originally came with Windos Vista Home Premium. After the drama to find the required drivers for it, all seemed to work fine. All updates for the system and the drivers where downloaded. Anyhow, suddenly the system started to show a warning telling that there was a problem with the STacSV.exe
Now it does not appear very often, but the system freezes and it is needed to reinitiate it turning off the machine. I've noticed that it hapens when I use itunes, WM or play pictures in a presentation mode. If the machine goes to hibernation mode, it won´t wake up, so it is needed to turn it off again. I am unable to use the windows media center as well. Would it be OK to reinstall all the drivers? Do I have to run the Windows Vista installation in repair mode or reinstall it clean again ?

Apr 28, 2008why shouldn't they feel that way? Windows XP is noticeably faster than Vista on the same hardware, and it gets by with much less RAM and hard drive space. Microsoft's Service Pack 3 makes XP even faster, but the same cannot be said of Vista's Service Pack 1. And Windows Explorer crashes far more often in Vista (preceded, of course, by the notorious Green Ribbon of Death). Why, XP's staggeringly superior hardware support alone makes a convincing case for dumping Vista in favor of its predecessor.
Problem is, downgrading a Vista PC to Windows XP can be a chore, and doubly so if you want to do it without reformatting your hard disk. The main roadblock is Windows Setup, which won't let you install an older version on top of a newer one; you are left with the tedious task of fooling Setup into thinking that there's no Windows at all on your PC.-Next: Regress Without Reformatting >

Jun 20, 2008refering to my IMPORTING FOLDERS AND MESSAGES FROM OUTLOOK EXPRESS article, one extension: I tried several times to fix the problem with Windows Recovery, it didn't work out. Every time I start the WM application, I have one try to click on the Local Folders with the result that only the Inbox from the drop down menu will be opened, everything else is invisible - or all the folders from the drop down menu are shown in the right window (still not shown in the left one), but without any function. After that the next click shows no reaction. How can I restore my previous WM functionality without restoring the complete OS and loosing all files on HDD?

Every time I download a file from the net, and right click in the save-as dialog box, the windows explorer crashes and have to be restarted or shut down. Right Click Crashes Windows Explorer
Jun 16, 2008Each time I attempt a right click to access the context menu Windows Explorer crashes. This is true whether I use Explorer or PowerDesk Pro 7 as my file manager. As a result I am unable to zip files, rename files or run executables as the Administrtor. The error message I get is simply that "Windows Explorer has stopped working." I suspected that possibly Norton 360 was the culprit, but I disabled Norton 360 and the problem persists. I believe this problem did not start until I installed Vista's SP1. I am running Vista Home Premium on a powerful MicroExpress machine with ample RAM.

Dec 18, 2008I recently purchased a nice shiny new HP Pavilion DV7-1130US. It came with vista ultimate x64 SP1. I wanted XP but that was not an option. For the first few hours it was very buggy and explorer was hanging alot. After awhile it got better and for about 2 weeks i was really starting to enjoy my lovely new laptop. Well today, for from what I can see no reason whatsoever, my laptop has become unusable. My symptoms are similar to those discussed in this thread: Windows Explorer Crashes I boot up, log in, everything seems ok for the first 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Then explorer freezes and I cant access or use any applications, everything goes into "not responding" mode, and none of my clicks register. Then 2-5 minutes go by and all my clicks happen at once. It seems like explorer restarts once or twice during this too as I get the "ding" sounds.
I have also received some memory errors, and fatal application crashes from various applications. I cant even do anything, I tried to get to system restore in the first 30 seconds after boot up when the computer is usable, but i cant make it and am not sure where system restore is located. I love my new laptop but I am so frustrated right now that I could smash it against the wall. I blame vista, as I am using an old ass XP desktop right now that works absolutely fine, never ever crashes, yet my shiny new fancy HP dual core 4 gigabytes of ram vista x64 bit laptop is ****ing worthless............

Dec 4, 2009I'm trying to move files by dragging a folder from the right-hand pane in Windows Explorer (Vista Business) to a different folder in the left-hand 'Folders' pane and every time I try this, Explorer stops working and re-starts. If I copy and paste the folders it doesn't seem to cause this problem, although even then, I have to [right click and 'Paste'] twice in the new folder - the first 'Paste' instruction never produces any effect. Should I be able to drag them? Why does 'Paste' require two attempts every time?

Dec 21, 2008I have this infamous windows media player crashes on launch issue after I did a restore from one harddrive to another using Ultimate x64 backup feature. Now whenever I launch windows media player it crashes on launch with the indiv01.exe fault. I looked at the guide to fix it and how I need to edit the registry, but I have no registry entry for DRM/DataPath.
How would I add it or does anyone have more detailed steps on how to set this up if I don't even have this registry key? I also do not have any DRM content, so this might be why i don't have this datapath. I'll do a re-install if I have to, but I really don't want to at the moment.

Jan 28, 2010my windows desktop manager crashes at login. when ever i try to load a picture file. explorer crashes. is there a way to verify the system files with out reformatting? what happened is my old hard drive started getting bad sectors. I'm guessing that some of my system files were corrupt when i did compleate back up. that was before i knew that my hard drive was having issues.

May 16, 2008I have just reformatted my computer and had a clean install of Vista business and service Pack 1. Everything is running perfectly except for one "small" problem. For no reason whatever it seems Windows Explorer crashes and immediately starts up again.. I don't lose any information and everything appears to be normal after the restart except for the fact that my icons go to different places even inspired off "saving the icons".
All my drivers up to date, my BIOS is up-to-date and I can think of no reason why this should be happening. Nothing in particular seems to start it. It will sometimes happen when I click on icons or right click on the file that I want to delete etc
Windows Media Center Wizard Crashes
Apr 23, 2008Running Vistax64, Sp1, clean install on a new home built machine. When I launch the media center wizard, when it gets to the place where it sets out to test the speakers, it stops working and 'has to close.' I have uninstalled Nero 7, my anti-virus software, flv player as well as the other speaker utility that came with the motherboard (SoundMax BlackHawk) and run the 'scannow utility' but so far nothing has worked. Apr 7, 2010I've read about this problem in several other post but no solutions that have worked for me.
My problem is that whenever I close my lid, allow my computer to go to sleep/hibernate, or even go to start->shut down, my computer restarts.
This past weekend I had my computer reformatted, thinking this would solve the problem, but the problem still persists.
The only way I can make my computer turn off is to hold down the power button for several seconds.
I have minimum computer knowledge, but I have been trying step by step solutions listed on other forums.
I've been through all of the power management steps and have all of my settings on the suggested settings for this problem.
I've deactivated almost all applications from opening on start up.
I've checked USB, LAN settings and I believe those are not the problem.
Still kind of unfamiliar with BIOS

Feb 17, 2009I pressed the circle button with the vertical lline in Vista (from pressing Start) This sent the computer to sleep or hibanate I dont know which. I cannot get the computer to come back on. The monitor remains black (no picture) and says no signal. I have deprived the computer of power. This was achieved by unplugging it from the wall, and removing the power cable also from the computer.
I have tried restarting the computer but to no avail. I have also removed the keyboard and mouse when I try starting up. I have also tried, holding in the power button and then restarting. No matter what I try still no joy. No signal on the monitor. The lights in all cases come on, on the base unit and I can hear fans spinning etc. I have read about this issue in round about ways but all of the fixes seem to rely on actually being in windows.
Wireless Card Stops Function After Sleep In Windows Enterprise SP1
Mar 31, 2008I have some Dell laptops (d830, d620, d630) that has problems with the wireless networkcard (Intel Wireless 4965 AGN). Very often it stops to function after the computer has been to sleep. The wireless icon still apears in the bottom right corner with a red cross over it. When you click it it says that it's connected with limited access. The wireless card will not apear when you run ipconfig If you disconnect it will not connect successfully again It seems like it manages to find all availble networks, but you can not connect successfully to any of them.
I have tried to install this fix reagardless that I already have SP1, but this won't install. Probley because it has already been applied. Also tried the Regedit workaround mentioned in the KB. I have set the power option to high preformance, but it still happends when the computer is manual set to sleep.

Feb 25, 2010I am updating my computer and I thought it was finish but my computer restarts and I encountered the death blue screen. I can't switch into safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with Command Prompt and Last Known good configuration. I don't know how to solve this problem because I can't get into any of the modes and even I inserted the installation disc I can't still see any repair computer or what. Jun 15, 2008I am attempting to transfer files & settings using the Belkin Easy Transfer cable from an XP computer to a Vista computer. All starts well by showing that the two computers are connected. But after finding the files and settings and providing the amount of data to be transferred, it starts gathering information but then shows a flashing disconnection icon in the upper right of both computers' transfer windows and freezes. This happens at a different place each time, but early in the procedure (after about 10 minutes). Would anyone have any advice? I have done everything by the book, as far as I'm aware.
