System Recovery Using Ghost Image

Mar 4, 2009

I am wondering if you need to re-install Windows after a hard drive failure before you use a "ghost" image. I used Macrium Reflect to create it.

http://www.macrium.com/blog/2008/03/...umReflect.aspx

Do you install Windows on the new drive or just install the "ghost" image of the drive before it failed?

Used Sysmatec Ghost Image A Xp

Mar 6, 2009

I'm new to this forum so please be gentle if I made a mistake in posting this here or whatever. :-) I am a intern on a School for my education and currently I'm looking into Imaging. Yesterday I used Symantec Ghost to image a XP machine. I was wondering if this would also be possible with Vista. Using something like a bootable Vista usb drive or cd or something?

Outlook 2007 Recovery By Image Using Acronis

Aug 24, 2009

I am having to rebuild my computer (long story). On the old system I have a backup image using Acronis but when I restore using the backup image and boot I get a BSOD. I was able to restore the image to an external drive and I can connect to my laptop via USB/eSATA and see everything on the drive. The new system is up and running, and I can access what used to be my old 'C' drive. Here's the situation that I need help with: I was (and will be) using Office Outlook 2007 as my email client. I've been able to recover most of my outlook stuff, what I have not been able to recover is

My email accounts - I had about 10 and with a bit of pain I can recover them. My rules - I had about 200 and only with a LOT of pain and time will I be able to recovery them. Any advice (instructions at the dummy level would be welcome) as to how I can recover my email accounts and rules (especially my rules).

System Fat16 File System Recovery Won't Work

Jun 4, 2008

I have a system that has FAT16 file system on it. I have that file system on that for some reason so I don’t need to upgrade on that….but recently I had some files deleted and now I need to get them back. They are important for my official use and hold great importance. I know that there is software for recovery but since I have a FAT16 file system I guess that all won’t work on that.

System Backup Clone Image

May 2, 2009

I have an HP laptop that came with Vista Home Premium installed.
Two drivers, the C: driver as usual and a 'D:' driver also known as "HP_RECOVERY".

Now my question is very simple and basic yet I'm baffled not figuring out a way to do it.

Is it possible to clone the image of the OS I'm running currently to that D: drive? What software do I use to do that?

I will also need to mention that the drive size is ~8GB so it's very small. If there is a way to clone the current image to that drive, i will have to extend it and make it bigger, how would you do that also

How To Create System Builder Image?

Dec 16, 2008

I am interested in creating a system which works like everyday DELL's/HP's/SONY's etc where the HDD has a partition with an activate image of the OS. The boot menu lets you boot from the HDD by default but if the system needs to be cleaned (restored to factory defaults) it is as simple as choosing a option in the boot menu which simply installs the OS (activated i.e. no frequent activations) which still keeping almost every file I created personally.

FYI, I am trying to build my own system using Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit and would like to keep an activated image of my system that can restored anytime I need to start all over again. EDIT: I am only interested in going back to when the image was created. Ocassionally I would like to update the image when major service packs are released and tested

Making An Image Of A Dual Boot System

Nov 8, 2008

I have Acronis True Image and before I went the dual boot system route (XP + Vista x64), I made an image of my XP system but now that I am comfortable with both OS's, I would like to know if Acronis can make an image of my drive including both systems?

Before attempting to do this on my own and botching the already good image I have, I would like to hear it from the Gurus so... what say you? Oh, also, I have heard that Acronis can do this but nobody specified if I should start Acronis in Vista or in XP and that is another thing that baffles me. It shouldn't matter where I start the image process but making sure is my first priority since I tend to screw up things fairly quick when I go out guns blazing (so to speak!)

No Operating System On System Recovery

Nov 5, 2009

I recently have managed to gain a corrupt file on my computer this basically means my computer does not startup. I have a boot disk available for my system (Windows vista x64 ultimate). However when it comes to trying to select a operating system
in the system recovery options the box is blank and i have no operating system to select. I have a feeling the fact i have sata raid setup on my computer is the reason as to why i cannot see my C: drive. I know this will fix my computer if i can only locate an operating system to detect. I have already carried out all the usual suspects of what is wrong like system restore etc but i cannot find a hard drive to restore.

Which Disk Image Creation Software Is Good For Vista: Fat32 Or NTSF File System?

Mar 23, 2008

In previous years I used Ghost to create the image of my harddrive. It was simple, easy procedure and very fast. I booted up computer to the command prompt and restored harddrive in few minutes!!! But it was FAT32 system. Now, with Vista I do not have a choice but to use NTSF file system. Which program offers the most features for disk image creation? I know it will be impossible for me to restore image from command boot option, but what the options I have? Can I for example take the harddrive to another computer and restore the image in there? Or create bootable CD (DVD?) and restore the image that way? Or I have to first install Windows and then restore?

System Recovery/restore

vista ultimate, no SP1 yet, cause it won't take on my system and Panda Titanium AV i get a message that says Panda has detected a worm on the computer and I need to restart it to complete the removal. i restart, and when I do, it goes to the desktop, but none of my programs work. every time i try to open one, it gives me a message saying wininet.dll is missing.

i can't open any programs at all. i can't open explorer at all. i tried a system restore, but it said it failed and did not reset anything. i don't know if it will help to boot it from the DVD, in fact, when i think about it, the DVD drive has not been working. if i try to put a CD or DVD in, the drive disappears from my system.. so i'm not sure that will be an option either short of going out and buying a new drive.

OS: Recognize The System Recovery Disk?

Apr 3, 2008

What are the basic differences between XP & Vista? All we do is surf the web, email and download an occasional game. Norton AntiVirus is always on and always up-to-date. My XP machine is dying big time & I can't figure out how to save it. It won't recognize the System Recovery disk that came with the machine, but it will recognize other CDs. That CD must be bent or whatever. The SPs are up to date. I'm running Office XP and it is taking Word and Excel 7 or 8 seconds to load; it used to open in a snap. I installed the latest edition of Firefox and loading web pages with it is taking too long. Most pages should just snap open. I guessed we've been "phished" or whatever because some of the ads I run into know that I live in Seattle. Our network connection is DSL and we haven't made any changes of any consequence that I know of to this machine in ages. I put SpyBot on it a week ago and twice when WinXP started, the Spybot folder opened. Not the program but the folder.

Not Switch Off The System Recovery Utility

May 19, 2008

First and foremost create a Recovery Disc and keep it safe and do not switch off the System Recovery utility. Do not remove the bloatware came with your PC unless you are desperate for space in your Hard disc,if and when you remove them do it one by one monitoring the response of the PC. If you couldn't get SP1,don't loose your sleep over it because it is not for the benefit of the user and it is designed to stop the user using other free third party softwares and tools(in my opinion anyway and remember I am not an expert).

Do not rely solely on the advices and do your own research as well because these so called advisers haven't provided me with tangible proof of their competence. Most of them hail vista as the best but wouldn't say why. If you ask any questions, they will blame you first for not asking the question properly and point you to a website to learn how to ask questions. Then they will request the third party software details and blame them. Now the turn of your hardware incompatibility which creates the problem. When everything fails they will accuse you of being an Ubuntu user. I suspect these so called experts use Ubuntu or some thing and pretend to be Vista experts and trying to damage the image of Vista. However, there are many helpful sites available and one of them is: www.vistax64.com If you do the basic housekeeping maintenance you will do fine.

System Recovery Stuck, Passwaord

Jun 28, 2009

My computer has been acting funny for several days (even though I told it to be serious!), anyway, last night, it was running v-e-r-y slow while I was trying to work on it, and then it just automatically rebooted itself. A screen came up that said to perform a System Recovery, so this morning I did the Recovery, but now I've been stuck on this same screen because it wants a password, which I don't know it, nor can I remember it. It's a Dell Inspiron 1525 which I bought from Dell April '08. Is there some way to get a password with having to be charged for Dell's help? I'm thinking of just tossing the laptop in the recycle trashbin, and buying a new brand.

I have ordered a recovery disk, but it will take up to 8 business days to get here. Does anyone know if you can download an evaluation copy of Vista or any copy of Vista for that mater??? I figure all I need to do is get it installed and I can use my CD Key.

System Recovery Startup Freezing

Feb 11, 2009

I have an Acer 9410 laptop with Windows Vista and I had taken it to computer techs to fix some mouse pad problems as well as some startup freezing problems. They said it passed their PC check so didn't appear as anything was wrong. They said I could try to do system recovery to restore it back to its factory settings. Well, when I initially tried it, it didn't work so then, not thinking this through and not being as familiar with this as I would like to have been, I accidentally rand the Anytime Upgrade CD thinking it was also the recovery CD.

Of course, I found out after the fact that it was just that, so it reinstalled another version of Vista on my computer which then completely wiped everything including the Acer emPowering Technology software which contains the software to do the system Recovery. But it also removed some of my original drives like the memory card drivers, microphone, and maybe the webcam. In the process it saved a bunch of old Windows files to my hard drive. Are those still useful and is there any way
I can recover those drivers besides getting the recovery CD's which I can purchase from Acer or the store where I bought it from for around $40.

Locate The System Recovery Software

Apr 26, 2009

I aquired a Gateway GT5058 with a bad hard drive from my neighbor and I will note it had Win XP Media Center Edition installed. The bad hard drive was fully accessible from my Vista machine but the primary partition gives an "error to load operating system". Visible inspection of the hard drive shows a melted area so I am shocked the drive was able to be accessed since it will not boot in it's native machine. I had an old 40 gig drive laying around so I used a recovery disk from my Gateway laptop and low and behold it installed just fine and the machine is fully functional so I want to get another drive for it.

First problem is that the previous owner might be able to locate the system recovery software or he might not...I will probably know this in a few days. If he can locate it then I have no problems but I am preparing to have to restore this machine an alternative way which is what I need help with...........

Forgot The Model, How Gateway System Recovery?

Sep 20, 2009

I'm trying to do a system recovery for a friend. She has a gateway computer. I forgot the model. She is in another state so it's very difficult to do over the phone since basically it's like being blindfolded. Her computer is messed up so it looks like recovering using link one is out of the question. So my question is if I have her use the link 2 which requires the disc, how should I have her do the recovery? When it comes time to select what kind of partition to create which do I select? Format partition? She is the kind of person who is not familiar with computers and gets aggrivated pretty easily so I'm trying to do this as easy as possible.

System Recovery Left Almost No Storage Space!

Apr 7, 2008

I previously had a problem on my Gateway Laptop Computer - Gateway Core2 Duo Centrino, that came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium, which I could not fix. I had to do a System Recovery using the on-screen program and did not back up any of my files, in attempt to clear out everything that I had on the computer. After I completed this process, I set up my desktop and internet, and started over. When reviewing my Hard Disk Drives on my "Computer" menu, I notice that my C: Drive is almost all the way full (8.55 GB free of 139 GB).

Although I downloaded a few programs and set up my Internet Security, I am sure I did not install anything large enough to use up almost all of the computers storage space for programs and files. By doing the System Recovery I thought that it would erase everything so that my computer would be back to it's factory condition. Could my previous files still be in the computer? After searching this forum, I did not find any information on the specific question that convinsed me of the soultion,
or a course of action.

I created a restore point and went into the System Tools menu and attempted the disk cleanup on the recovery drive C: where Windows Vista is stored and then cleaned up the up the Shadow Copies, and nothing helped. I went through many windows folders and found nothing that would amount to the vast amount of space that is apparently taken up.

Boot Disk / System Recovery Failure

Mar 19, 2009

I run vista 32 bit. I'm pretty sure it's Vista personal (PC didn't actually come with a Vista disk). I only use it for music and games, basic stuff. It's a Compaq....It shat itself recently, it wouldn't boot, so i borrowed the Vista Business disk from my dad to repair it/disk boot, and it worked fine, that was a couple days ago. Today it happened again, except it won't repair the same way. I start it up, it goes to the Compaq startup screen with 4 options; [Esc] Boot menu, [F9] Diagnostics, [F10] Setup, [F11] System recovery. Except I can never go to the diagnostics or system recovery menus, i press the keys and nothing happens. Then when i don't press anything it goes to a black screen with "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter", so i do. Then it says "Windows is loading files" with a white bar below, once that's done it goes to the Microsoft Coporation green load bar that scrolls across over and over. Then it suddenly stops for a few minutes and a blue screen appears saying

"A problem has been detected and Windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps: Check to see if any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to disable or remove coponents, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, then select safe mode.
