Is there any way to have Windows Task Manager loaded at startup in the taskbar? If this is not possible, is there any way to have a shortcut of the Windows Task Manager (to put in the Quick Launch)? Or, is there any way to have it open with Ctrl+Alt+Del like before, or with some other desktop shortcut?
View 6 Replies View RelatedFast user switching has been a very useful feature of Windows for multi-user computers. Dating back to Windows XP, fast user switching allows multiple users to be logged into a computer at once. This is very useful if a user is in the middle of work but another needs to use the computer shortly. Fast user switching will allow the other user to log in while still retaining the other users session. Once the other user is finished the session can be switched back to the original user....
View 0 Replies View RelatedThe computer is less than 2 months old. We have four Users accounts set up on the computer and they are all setup as Administrators. When we switch between users the computer freezes up. The computer screen goes blank and a "NO SIGNAL" comes on the screen. I have to press the power button and the computer shuts down and then I can restart it. It happens every time. If I select the Start button then "Switch Users" it will go to the user I select but when I try to switch back the computers freezes, no mouse, no cursor, no key board, it flashes No Signal and then just a blank screen.
I have restored windows to earlier configurations, I have researched the problem on the internet through Google, I have gone to Microsoft's web site and searched for the answer and I have contacted Gateway and they had no idea. I created a Recovery Disk, backup all my settings and files, installed the recovery Disk and restored all the backup files, reinstalled all the programs and I still have the same problem.
I calculated that to migrate to Vista or Windows 7 will cost close to =A32000. not including my time - It will take around 100 hours. This is because many of my existing software / tools / utilities does not work on Vista and the vendors expect me to buy a new license because it is a "new product" even though it does exactly what it did before - just on a different OS. Even the products that do work have problems and glitches that have to be worked around. All this takes time MY VALUABLE time. In other words I am suffering because Microsoft want money. In the past some versions of windows were worth migrating to Windows 2000 and Windows XP were great
But most of the improvements to Vista / Windows 7 are mostly transparent to normal users - even monster power users like me. I believe Microsoft have a serious attitude problem. just wait until they take full advantage of TPM to screw even more money out of us. If I am wrong please point out a real tangible benefit that Vista or Windows 7 brings to a large percentage of users or to me. I also I can no longer buy a laptop because they only come with Vista GPU drivers (some come with buggy unsupported XP GPU drivers - great)
I am new to Vista and I created an account when I set up the computer. I then set up another user account for the administrator and changed the first account I set up to a regular User account. (I am thinking this is where all or part of my problem is.)
when I log into Vista, the only account that shows up is my user account and I can not see my administrator account. When I go to switch users it is not there. Now my son is trying to load software and it will not let him and is asking for an admin password. When I type the administrator password it is giving an eror message "Logon Failure: the user has not been grated the requested logon type at this computer."
Just about 1-2 weeks ago i was sitting comfortably in my living room gaming away when i noticed the game i was playing started having problems. In the mist of playing my keyboard locks up and mouse freezes and i can't move my character at all. I can't even alt+tab to task manager to fix the problem. I noticed the windows vista error sound play and then a few seconds later the game resumes normally.
I thought it was the particular game, but when i ditched it and started playing navyfield i noticed the same problem occurring there.
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem? I was thinking driver related problems or possible graphics since the problem never occurs outside of gaming. When the problem happens the green lights for numb lock etc.. quickly off and on. I have disabled trusted installer thinking it was lag durring game and that cause the information to pause....I have recently reformated my hard drived with the disk that came with the computer and did a full installation of windows updates.
why i can't use my task manager?
View 5 Replies View Relatedthe infamous fake "Vista atnivirus 2010" somehow got into my system, with its unstopable topups that would never end until I did this. the program was av.exe, and is indicated in task manager as gav.exe *32. This is a hidden file in the folder (user)/AppData / Local. To resolve this issue, I did the following:
1. Start task manager.
2. Right-click the file in task manager
3. Select the option gOpen containing folderh.
4. Close task manager.........
I no this may be a nooby question but my task manager is all weird, its stuck on ythe process window and i can change it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow do I get Task manager to work? It doesn't shut down frozen (non responding) programs including WindowsMail, IE7 or MozillaFF... all of which "stop responding" constantly. We're all getting sick and tired of having to reboot to get anything done online. I can't find any infections on this PC which has WDefender, Avast, Spybot, Adaware, A-Squared and ZoneAlarm. We ran all these programs, updated, several times and no viruses or other crapware was found. This Vista Home Premium is less stable than the old W98 we recently gave away. In fact we had less problems with W98 than we're having with Vista.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThis morning,I opened up the Task Manager and noticed that there are no longer any options such as Applications,Processes,Services,Performance,Networking, and User(thosetabs are no longer available).
In addition File,Options,View,Windows, and Help at the top hasdisappeared also.
Also, the minimize, maximize, and close out buttons have disappeared inthe upper right hand corner,so I can no longer minimize or close thetask manager window. However, when I switch to a different user, the taskmanager window is normal and all those options are there.
I would perform a system restore to a date and time of last night at11:00 pm or sometime yesterday, but I was having trouble with my internetconnection last night and yesterday and I'm afraid if I go back a day insystem restore,I will lose my internet connection again because Belkinhad me change some settings yesterday and last night that allowed me tostay connected to the internet.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI haven't been able to find any information on how to overcome this problem. When a third party software decides to 'stop responding' and I choose to "Close program", the application's window is closed, but the process is still running. If I select the persistent process and click the "End Process" button, the precess does not end; and there is no way I can force-close the process - except to restart the computer. I am currently using Vista Ultimate x64, and I'm the Administrator. I'm simply referring to processes of third-party software (e.g. Firefox,uTorrent,Opera etc...) Here's the strange thing: generally I can end any process through Task Manager, until the program decides to stop responding, that's when I am unable to end it's process.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI hope this is the right section for this thread, But I'm working on an old acer 1.6 Ghz processor 512Mb ram running vista home premium. Porblem is that Explorer will not load. Task manager will not respond nor will Alt+Ctrl+Del do anything. I checked the reg key for the shell but it is fine. I am running out of ideas on how to get windows to continue to load. Using restore disks are out of the question. They are what I want run in the end, but the restore disk that I have apears to need to be run from a program from within windows. does anyone have an idea on how to coax this thing back to life?

Anyone suggest a tool that will let me see what exactly is running in the background. In the task manager/processes there a "Host Process for Windows" going on thats using approx 107,212K of memory. Image name is Svchost.exe, would this be the Superfetch at work here ? Also I seem to have 68 processes (which I think could be reduced)going on in total, cpu usage when idle is at 1% and physical memory at 58 %. Are these figures near normal for the above specs ? The computer does'nt seem any slower.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI read an older thread on disabling/enabling Task Manager. I followed the instructions . . . but I must have a different issue regarding my Task Manager. When I control-alt-del and hit Task Manager, it comes up in my menu bar. When I try to bring it up to my screen, I see a flash waaay off to the left (off of my screen). It's apparently running, but I can't get to it I have tried the following but still having corrected the problem:
1. Removed all the spyware, etc that was on my machine
2. Ran "regedit" per various instructions (this forum's instructions were the only ones that I could actually follow and perform - which gives me great confidence that I'm at the right place - you guys are great!)
3. Restored computer
4. Tried resizing the screen to capture it I am the Administrator as this is my personal computer I just don't know what to do. I've tried everything I can think of.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot up my notebook, the sidebar doesn't appear, the network icon in the taskbar has a red X on it (but I'm still connected to a network),and the task manager won't appear after pressing ctrl-shift-esc or right clicking on the taskbar. When I try to bring up the task manager, all I get is a green grid icon in the taskbar which cannot be accessed. If I try to initiate task manager multiple times, I get multiple green grids
