My wife atempted to install an eGame program disk that apparently did not work with Vista. Since then We have received error messages that the Vista program has been altered, the system is running extremely slowly, and can not print to the local USB Printer and the attempting to open the control panel result in a window flashing up for a second then disapearing. I have attempted several of the recommended remedies and still can not get the Vista program validated again, or print.
using an old DOS program that worked under XP, but doesn't appear to work properly in Vista. When I execute the program, it comes up with the error message "This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." My choices then are "Close" or "Ignore". Whichever option I click on, the program will then run, but in a miniscule window that I can't alter. how to get this to run in fullscreen like it did before? I'm working on getting him to join the 21st century, but in the interim, I'd like to make this work...at least temporarily.
So I accidentally downloaded an antivirus program that is really a virus. It really sucks. Internet explorer refuses to work. Task manager has been disabled by the administrator. Any program that operates under windows explorer fails to run properly. This makes it very difficult to use the computer. What exactly is wrong? Do I need to repair the registry? What if I did not make a backup?
I have been wracking my brain for weeks now, trying to play C&C First Decade with Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge over the LAN, it will only run on IPX networking which I could setup with 2x XP machines, I have Vista Ultimate on my PC, and XP on another, I found some drivers for IPX to work on Vista, didn't work ... So I loaded Hamachi which had built-in IPX support. Now when I open RA2, it no longer says IPX unavailable, it shows 00 00 00...
So it can see my Hamachi adapter with IPX support, great! The other XP machine has Hamachi installed, and they are both VPN'd (Connected) on the same Hamachi Network. They don't see each other... The XP machine shows a few IPX networks, I have tried switching to them all, even put the Hamachi adapter and the LAN adapter to the top of the preferred networks list. This was sort-of a breeze with both XP, but with Vista it's looking to be a bit tricky. I have no firewalls running on either machine and I am pretty cluey when it comes to networking (TCP/IP that is).
I recently tried to upgrade from Vista Basic to Vista Premium but the activation key didn't work. So I recovered Vista Basic from the windows.old file but there is still a corrupt version of Vista Premium on my hard disk. how to remove it?
Do someone here have any suggestions for a good antivirus program for Vista? Something that does not use soo much system resources and at the same time is good for detections?
Has anybody else seen a case where a program (Germin Topo USA) loads fine from a DVD with XP but simply does nothing when you click setup on Vista. Just get the continuous mouse delay cursor. I tried networking from the XP drive, no luck. Tried the Vista "Program Compatibility Wizard" as XP or Win2000, also nothing. I would have chalked it up to the program/DVD if it was not for the fact that yesterday I had another program not install. Is it possible some setting on my Vista has changed. Running as Admin/ Vista Business. No other bugs.
I installed my Sims 1 game and everything that should be at the bottom of the screen is in the middle. Evidently it isn't compatible with Vista. or is there a way I can make it compatible. I already clicked on properties and picked run as XP and I already click to run as administrator. Nothing works.
Any input on Vista Visual Master? I've been looking online for reviews, and haven't found much. Found a couple of people who said they had some nasty stuff installed along with the program, but I just downloaded it from CNET...just don't want a virus or anything. OR, is there another program to tweak the icons in Vista?
one of my client's have a problem with his IE8 he is running Vista Business SP2 and has IE8 on his computer. his problem is that everytime he opens IE8 a message comes up saying "close the program or check windows for a solution to the problem and then close the program" I am running adaware on his PC (one of my coworkers has done this before and removed some spyware,trojans etc.) I have reset IE8 in the tools/internet options/advanced and then reset, didnt do anything. The problem is when the error message pops up and you press on either option, it doesnt close IE8. and when you are on the desktop and IE8 is closed the message still pops up. I will run an antivirus soon too and I have also checked netstat. I fear a new hardcore virus for vista.
I'm not even sure if this is where I should post this but I'll give it a go. I purchased a new PC last week with Vista Home Premium on it. I have (for years) used MSN Premium software as my email program. Now, it seems I can't make this my default email program with Vista. I am going nuts! I have spoken to MSN support who tell me to do the same things over and over. I have also spoken to Microsoft support who told me I have to use Outlook or Windows Live mail instead.
It's really hard. I have taught my elderly parents how to use the MSN software and now we have to change - or do we? I've tried the email settings in MSN itself, I've tried associations for programs in Vista and also the default programs. Nothing is working. Surely, one Microsoft program should work with another? We pay for this software so that we can also have sub accounts on our email more storage than the usual hotmail space.
When I go into the C: Drive.. it shows program files.. and then it also shows a Program Files (x86) folder.. why do I have both, and one is 32 bit. Whats it for, what should I use it for. or do the things you try and install that are 32 bit go in there, and the others go in the normal file?? Please let me kno what the deal is with that.
One last question, I just got a new system built.. and now I wanna take the HD from my old system, add it to my new one.. and move everything over, is it just that simple. plug it in.. let my computer see it. open and drag everything. or is there ways to do it. Like I don't wanna just drag everything or I'd have 2 of everything. and it would take forever to do it all folder at a time. So what should I do. Open my Music and drag it all into My music new system. so the folder stays and stuff inside get transfered. or what?
whats the best way to just get all my programs, and all my files over..Should I transfer over all the install files.. or should I redownload and reinstall all the stuff I need online.. to make sure i get 64 bit ones if available..?? Let me kno please!! I'm going to do it tonight.
We use hundreds of photos a day to cut out, and edit and use on our online ecommerce shopfronts. We have no software now that lets us cut out objects and put them into new backgrounds. I dont care that you took PICTUREIT! away (WELL I DO CARE), if you had replaced it with something else that was equally as functional or better, but to take it away and not replace it with anything comparible is rediculous! People use this software every single day of the week. I use it so much I would be willing to pay a per month price to have access to it ! Could Microsoft PLEASE give us a suitable program that is VISTA compatible. Why dont you just make these obsolete products available by monthly subscription ? you would make HEAPS of money off it and your customers would be a lot happier than they are now ! I have a Sony VAIO that came with Vista Premium installed. I have installed a few programs on it and have had varrying problems. My most recent problem is having a "demo" version of a software which I then purchased and attempted to apply the license to it. It says it has to reboot to make changes, but when it restarts it is still in the demo mode. No changes made. By itself it would seem that it is a problem with the software. But, I have another program (Ikea Kitchen Builder 08) that when installed accesses removed and deleted files from a previous install version of it as well (Ikea kitchen builder 07). Both of these programs install and work perfectly on Windows XP. But for some stupid reason Vista doesn't allow these programs to successfuly install themselves.
"All of a sudden" (that is, I am not aware of any specific action that caused this - probably after shutting down due to low battery while running winamp and 7zip), Vista business replaced program icons at the desktop and in the taskbar/Systray (the place where you put program icons) with icons of 7zip, a free packer. Klicking on these icons opened their folder with 7zip. After deinstalling 7zip, Vista now asks "which program to use to open this file" when i click on these icons. There are no programs to choose from, but you can search for these programs (lower right button) so that you can repopulate this window by hand one by one with some programs.
This does not work for some programs (eg regedit, which initiates the childproof "continue" dialog but doesn't show up. System recovery doesn't work either, i get access only by booting to F8/repair computer). Some Control center (?, "Systemsteuerung" in German) programs don't react neither. Those programs which kept their proper icon, result in "program not found" while the dialog box shows the correct path to the still existing exe-file.

But then I done a further download of the program again, and once again the problems began. Is there a good alternative Anti Spyware program that is recommended ?

My eight year old Dell finally bit the dust and bought a new Gateway preloaded with Norton AV. I have a paid subscription through 01/09 with Windows One Care that I have used for three years with my Dell and never had problems with it. I have always disliked the hoggy Norton and McAfee AV's and will uninstall Norton on the new pc using the uninstall download from Symantec and probably some manual removal as well.
My question is : will WOC work with Vista?? Or should I use some of the free AV's ie Avast, AVG free, etc etc. My pc is only two days old and I don't want to spend days attempting to download new programs and fight with firewalls and potentially messing up new pc.
I have tried everything possible to get my HP PSC 500 to work with Vista, I had no problems with XP. The driver is there, but it presents an error when I go to print. I have contacted HP and they tell me because my machine, which is in perfect working condition, is 5 yrs old it will not work with Vista. I find this totally unacceptable and would like to find a solution to this other than spending more money unneccessarily to get a 2nd printer that I don't want
I've been dealing with this horrendous excuse for an email program for about 2 months now (thus my display name. my new computer came with Home Premium VISTA. I'm seriously thinking of getting my old original copy of XP installed back in my computer at some point. I'd do it myself, but I want to make sure I don't lose anything in the process. I've lost enough because of this fiasco already.
1) I can no longer use a rather expensive program that I bought to build web sites for small businesses (so therefore this also had a direct impact on my income as well as my frustration level). It won't work with Windows VISTA (because it's not a Microsoft product, of course).
2) I receive most email, but I have to check the spam folder constantly -- since I work online from home, and receive a good bit of business email at home that will often contain links, etc., VISTA reads it as "phishing" email and dumps it. And some it seems to dump in there for absolutely no reason at all...........
Has anybody tried this program with Vista & does it work well? Also, I'm not sure what I should shut down in the back ground. I don't want to mess my computer up.
i'd like to put my shadow copies on a different disk. anyone know how? details: event log tells me that shadow copies are having trouble finding space, and getting deleted. my intuition tells me a shadow on its own volume sounds incestuous. better on a different disk. just like pagefile. searching, i found vssadmin add shadowstorage /for=c: /on=t: /maxsize=10g but it doesn't work on vista sp1. what's that about? perhaps it's in the registry somewhere? anyone know...?
I'm getting "a program needs your permission to continue" how do I add the program to a trusted list so I dont get this any more. Im bouncing around lots of different programs and its driving me crazy, I need to stop this for selected programs that I trust like putty
Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I understand my ISP only uses IPv4 - Virgin Media Anyway, name resolution does not work in Vista. I operate a LAN behind a router - GTA GNAT 3.42.This is merely a debian linux router kernel with features like HA (high availability et al). I use a PIII Coppremine, 512MB, CompactFlashCard with linux image, 3Com 10/100 PCI on the public interface, 4 Port SMC 10/100 and 2 Port Intel Pro/100. I have no problems with Win2K and Win XP Pro. I can ping and tracert domain name(s) with no problems (Win2K/WinXP);
Unable to do this in Vista.Disabled Vista Firewall for testing. Disabled (unchecked) IPv6 and discovery components on network connection. Onboard NIC - nVidia - Vista installed nVidia driver at install. As boths NIC fail DNS resolution, assumed not a NIC issue. Network Type - Workgroup (not connected to domain)....
I see that Microsoft is not going to offer XP any longer. Do they have any plans to get Vista to work with Outlook? I have Outlook 2000 and I have to enter the password each and everytime i log on, it is aggrivating. I am looking for another email program that has the tasks, that are as easy to use as Outlooks.
I got a computer in Dec of 2006. 3 months later a Vista upgrade disk came in the mail. I have had it ever since. I use this computer to store stuff and try new programs ect. I am wondering how much I will regret upgrading with this free disk. The system has a Pentuim 4 3.1 G CPU and only 512MB of RAM. I would really like to put vista on it but....512 MB of ram is not the 1GB they recommend. Is anyone running a system like this? What will happen? Will it just run slow and not have Aero because the graphics are not up to par either or will there be other problems?
