Program Permissions

Jun 2, 2008

I have 2 situations here but I think they are related.

1. I have a couple programs that every time I go to start them I get "A program needs your permission to continue"I have to click "continue" so they will run.

2. i have several programs that on their desktop icons have the "Firewall Shield" on them. (shield divide into 4 colors)

How do I get the shields to go away?

How do I get the "need permission" message to stop coming up?

Security Center And Program Permissions

May 9, 2010

I'm trying to help out my sister on her laptop (Compaq Vista 32bit). Here are the problems:

Can not access Windows Security Center.. It comes up on the tool bar red with the X. When you try to open it either off the tool bar or even through the Control Center you get: A "open with" window to select the program to open "rundll32.exe". I have tried the tutuorial on this site to change security center from disabled to automatic, this did not work, it defaults back to disabled. Will not start up the Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus program automatically on startup. You must manaul start and either run as adminstrator to start or go through the "open with window" process. All program starts require to go through the "open with window" approach and some that does not work and you need to right click on the program and "run as administrator" to start the program (i.e. intenet exployer). I have manually run Microsoft Security Essentials and removed numerous virus and trojans.

I am familar with XP and Windows 7, not Vista...

Program Permissions: Component Cannot Create Object

Jul 24, 2009

We installed an application on a Vista Enterprise machine. When the person that installed it is logged on, he can run the program by clicking the .exe, but a service that calls the program fails, and displays a message that says Run-time Error 429 ActiveX component cannot create object. If anyone else is logged on and runs the program by clicking the .exe, they get this same error. I think that the object in question is NTSVC.ocx, but can't be sure.

I have not come up with anything in regards to this. UAC is turned off on this machine. If you right click, select properties, the privilege level checkbox is unavailable - even when the original installer is logged in.

Deleting Program Files And Keeping Program Files X86?

Aug 16, 2008

I have Windows Vista Ultimate x64, and it came with 2 set of program files: program files, and program files x86. Since my hard drive is only 100 gigs, I was wondering if I could delete the normal program files and keep the x86 ones, or would that cause problems?

I was browsing the internet and was going to install this one software, but noticed i clicked on the wrong button and Advance Virus Remover was installed. I looked on the control panal to uninstall it, didn't show up, so i went through and deleted all the files pertaining to the program. now, there is an icon on my tool bar that i can't click on and it blocks some of my stuff, like when i try opening a movie, saying the the "Application cannot be executed. The file is infected. Please activate your antivirus software." i ran a virus scan, got nothing. I even tried a full restore, since i just got this computer monday, and it was still there.

Program Files Vs. Program Files (x86)

Sep 20, 2008

I did a search for "x86" on these forums and did not find anything. So, I'd like to ask a few quick question to Brink or anyone else that might know.

This is my first computer with a 64-bit OS (Vista Home Premium). I noticed that there are two separate "Program Files" directories off of root C:

a "Program Files" directory a "Program Files (x86)" directory Is there a difference between the two directories that we should know about?

Also, I've been installing programs to "Program Files (x86)." The programs I've been installing are not necessary 64-bit programs. Should I be installing programs to the "Program Files" directory, instead?

How Do I Always Allow A Program Access In UAC?

Mar 24, 2008

I read the "answer" post about UAC, and was wondering why when I set something to "run as administrator" in it's Properties it does not do so on an Administrator account? On the Guest account I have set up the program runs without asking for any kind of verification or admin password, but it always asks for such when run from the administrator account. What has gone wrong here? Is there some way to make a program "trusted" (like all Microsoft products) so that it doesn't ever need verification for all accounts on a system?

DEP Turning Off For A Particular Program

Aug 29, 2009

This is my first post in this forum. I use Vista Home premium. my DEP setting is Turn on for all programs except those I select. My querry is-Whenever I go to the folder of a program in "Program Files" folder, I notice that it has numerous folders, and each of these folders have numerous .exe files. Moreover, it is not possible to "Batch Select" all the .exe files in a folder, the procedure has to be repeated for each .exe file individually. This is cumbersome. Is there a better
way of doing it?

Can Not Reinstall The Program

Mar 1, 2010

So I was spending way too much time on facebook and way too much time gaming when I needed to study for a chem test today so I thought it would be a good idea to somehow enable parental controls to only give me 30 mins a day on facebook and an reasonable amount of time on the computer game. I was going to get my roomate to type the password. After I went to parental controls I quickly realized that I could not micro manage the parental controls the way I wanted to because vista sucks.

So I downloaded "USER TIME CONTROL CENTER v 4.9.2.7" from "http://www.1securitycenter.com/index.html" and installed it. Then I realized I did not like the program because when I ran it it did not allow me to use any kind of administrative commands. It took me awile to figure out how to disable it but when I did I was able to uninstall it. The computer rebooted and then I quickly deleted it from out of my recycling bin only to find out that I still can not run administrative commands.

So now I:
1. Do not have the program
2. Can not reinstall the program
3. Can not restore program
4. Can not use any kind of 'run as administrator' (No error message, it tells me to type password but it wont let me imput)

Think that the problem is related to:
1. Csrss.exe
2. Csrstub.exe

And I dont know how to: Access User:administrator

DOS Program : Run In Fullscreen

Mar 23, 2008

I have a friend who just got a new PC with Vista Home Basic. He's using an old DOS program that worked under XP, but doesn't appear to work properly in Vista. When I execute the program, it comes up with the error message "This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." My choices then are "Close" or "Ignore". Whichever option I click on, the program will then run, but in a miniscule window that I can't alter.

Any ideas on how to get this to run in fullscreen like it did before? I'm working on getting him to join the 21st century, but in the interim, I'd like to make this work...at least temporarily.

Program Transfer Second HD

First: I'm thinking of getting a second HD and I want to leave the OS on the main HD and move / transfer all my programs like office, World of Warcraft, DVD programs etc. Is this possible or will it cause a conflict? Is there a good way to do this?

Secondly: I had to use the Vista Upgrade option on this disk to correctly fix some of my files which had been deleted by a poor vista update, namely system restore and windows update. Now I get rnadom IRQ errors and USB Port errors which crash the computer. I have updated to SP1 on Home Premium x 64 bit what could be cuasing this problem?

Cannot Install Program

Nov 6, 2009

I had installed a realestate program called Agent Office successfully, my client attempted an online upgrade to a new version and it blew up the new/old agent office installation. I did the uninstall from windows of the apps, even used perfect uninstaller and removed all remnants, upon attempting to install started to get the 1607 Install Shield Scripting runtime error, googled and tried numerous fixes.

As of now I have UAC Disabled, recreated windows temp, copied the installation to the x86 programs folder and tried to install from there, verified permissions and now when I try to install it I'm getting Invalid Program/System Directory error and still cannot install.

Always Automatically Allow A Certain Program

Mar 23, 2008

Every time I boot up, User Account Control pops up and asks me if I want to allow this program to run "PSDiagnostic.exe". This program has to do with the functionality of my wireless print server and it needs to run or the printer on my print server will not function. If I allow the program to run everything is fine, but I would rather not have to be bothered with this during every boot up. I know I can disable User Account Control to avoid this, but is there a way I can leave User Account Control active and still allow this program to run automatically during boot up? Like is there a list of exceptions that I could add it to?
