Is There Any Utility Or Program That Can Tell Whether Your System Is = Using 64bit Programs

Nov 20, 2009

Is there any utility or program that can tell whether your system is = using 64bit programs? I ask because I just installed Nitro PDR Pro 6 x64 and it installed it = in the x85 Programs Directory. There's no way I can even tell if a true = 64 bit program is actually being utilized in my 64 bit OS. I know I'm = being anal but with all the talk of 64 bit vs 32 bit, I started getting = curious. Seems that all the big box stores sell computers mostly with = 64 bit Windows installed but a great majority of the programs are 32 bit = (I know they don't make many).......

Slow Response Times When Opening/closing Apps And Programs

Apr 16, 2009

I need some assistance. I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop that runs Vista Home Edition. Whenver I boot up and try to open a program or application, it takes a really REALLY long time for it to open. For example, whenever I try to open Firefox or Internet Explorer or even my control panel, the window will open and will be blank. Then it will start to load but either take an enormous amount of time or, after I've become tired of waiting, I'll try to exit and it will say (Not Responding). Now eventually this goes away and the window does close, but like I said, it takes a ton of time trying to open and close these things up. If I do wait it out and I do get into my Internet Explorer or Mozilla, any links that I click or addresses that I type, it again, takes forever. I've run a deep system scan with my Anti-Virus software and came up with nothing. I did a system restore to a point where the problem was not happening and, again, nothing.

Opening All Programs Error File Does Not Have A Program Associated Performing This Action

Jan 17, 2009

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create and association in the Set Associations control panel" I have been having a problem with my computer for several days now. Opening all programs causes me to recieve this error message. I have to use right click + Run as Administrator to use any of my programs. I have done some forum surfing and tried several recommended techniques for correcting this problem but to no avail. I downloaded the exefix_vista reg file but the very same problem prevents me from merging it (I even tried fixing the reg extension but that failed aswell). I have run the sfc/scannow in command propmt but that came up empty. I would have fresh installed but I am away from home and do not have the means to reinstall vista. I apologize if this post seems in any way redundant but my forum searches have failed me. HELP! PLEASE!

Kaspersky Crashed During Install

Nov 11, 2008

Tried installing Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 (KAV) on a friends Vista machine and it crashed during the install. I was required to use the last restore point to get the machine up and running. Has anyone had similar issues w/KAV & Vista 64-bit? When I tried to install KAV initially it found Norton and would not install. I removed Norton but did not reboot before installing KAV. Does anyone think this might be the cause? I am reluctant to try again as the computer is for my friends business and he lost a few files when I went to the restore point.

OpenAL + Kaspersky Anti-Virus = Riskware

Nov 26, 2008

Anyone know why Kaspersky Anti-Virus sees the lastest version of Creative Labs' OpenAL (oalinst.exe) as malware/riskware? I had on old copy of openal and it was detected as malware/riskware, so I re-downloaded it from Creative Labs' website here: Home - OpenAL, and it too gives the same warning under Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7. I use 3DMark06 under vista64 and it requires the latest version of OpenAL to run.

Third Party Firewall Internet Connection

Mar 27, 2009

I've been using Vista for a few years and I've never used a third party firewall for my internet connection. I have a direct ethernet connection from my modem to my laptop, so no hardware firewall AFAIK, and as for anti-virus, I've been using Avast home free edition with no problems so far. I've never considered installing a 3rd party firewall - I just leave Windows' default firewall settings enabled. My questions is, do any of you believe that it's neccesary to have a firewall, and if so, which do you use? How would you rate it's performance? (I'm looking for free firewalls that perform well) I've read about Comodo and Zone alarm (I believe that's what it's called) but I've also read how they are essentially useless. I'm looking for one that won't be too much of a nuisance, ex: one that’s incompatible with other programs.

Vundo Virus On Laptop, Kaspersky Internet Security

Nov 7, 2008

My computer has been having issues accessing some internet sites: facebook, yahoo, thisiscornwall and so on. I have Kaspersky internet security and thought everything was ok. Until i decided to download AVG. Whilst running this scan AVG discovered i have a Vundo. 0 trojan. AVG stated the trojan had been deleted. However i decided to manually remove the program the trojan was found in (a zip file for registry mechanic sent from a friend). I also uninstalled the program. However the problem is still there and i cannot access certian sites. Does anyone know what i can do to get rid of this problem? I have tried a vundo removal program and also vundobegone (in which you start the program in safe mode) these both returned a nothing found result.
