I'm working in InDesign. I prefer for all my windows to come up in Detail view. When I "Open a File," the window comes up in List view. I can change that specific window to Detail, and it will stay that way, but I can't figure out how to universally change all such windows to open in Detail. Anybody know?
View 3 RepliesMy icons are perfectly fine, there are no problems. However, I have these super cute PINK folder icons that I am dying to use instead of the way *yawning* boring blue icons.
Now I imagine there is way to change these icons, or new ones would not be available for use. I feel about my computer the way I feel about my home. It is a reflection of me, and I am not a "default" or "standard" person .
Even if it is complicated I want to know how. Please, Please help me. I don't want to die of computer bordom.
Originally my intention was to go the whole nine yards with WMC, ie, the dual digital TV tuners/PVR thing etc etc. However, I ended up getting a deal on a Sky+ box, so, long story short, I really just use it to play music and movies. I don't have an extensive picture library and so on, so I just get it to watch the Music and Movie directories. All the others have been removed from the watch-list and now I would like these other folders to die with dignity as far as the main interface is concerned. I don't want to have to go up (to Pictures) then across to Videos. I know this may seem as if I would be interested in hiring someone to do my breathing for me, and maybe I won't lose any sleep over it, but I would like to slim down the primary interface if it can be done.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI apologize if this is a duplicate question- I have searched this forum and not found this topic. In WinXP, when selecting View Folders, I would see a closed folder, with 4 small images of the folder contents. I liked this as I instantly knew what images were in my folder. I am drilling down as follows: Documents, then the folders come into view. These are the folders I am discussing here. Windows Explorer gives the same results.
In Vista, I get a partially open folder, with the contents partially visible, but cascaded so as to obscure the contents under the first view. I've tried all the possible options I can find withing Vista, including Large Icons, etc. I have searched online for how to make the folders give me the preview pane as in XP, to no avail. I have tried numerous fixes found online, but they do not work. I may be using the wrong terminology, but I have spent two months trying to get the folders to display as in XP. Would someone here know a fix for this?
I have connected my Vista Laptop to my PC by ethernet cable and it does not allow me to view my shared folders on the XP machine. When viewing the network from the control panel the XP PC is listed but I get an error if I try to look at the files.
I get an error message saying MPFP Packet Inbound Filter plus the message also says it has tried to ping the machine but it is not responding. I am currently running McAfee security centre as my firewall.
I had to reinstall Vista on my computer. Previously I used Outlook. I can't find the activation code so I want to try Windows Mail. I saved my Outlook email pst file. Is there a way to get Windows Mail to open that file.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running a laptop with Vista Home Premium, and just recently some of my folders like My Computer and other various folders are opening yet show a blank window, like literally blank. There's not even a URL there, just a blank window. I played around with some registry values (which I shouldn't have) and I believe that's the cause of this problem. Also, when i try to delete some of the files inside folders that manage to open before they crash, the delete prompt stalls at 0. Explorer.exe also seems to have multiple holds on single processes. how get my comp back to shape! (Ps. Did like 3 system restores and a virus scan with no results)

View 7 Replies View RelatedI received zipped files via FTP. I extracted them and brought them to a C:folder. I have three choices: a CD, a Web or a LMS version. I cannot open any of the key HTML file in them. The choice is either player.html or index.html. I can view the source code but keep getting blocked. I tell Vista to allow blocked content. Nothing. I am the administrator. I started fooling with the Active X and Scripted security features since this is the warning I receive when trying to open the HTLM file. I enabled everything you aren't supposed to, received the dire warnings but still cannot access the content. I put everything back to default (because the dire warnings are scarey!) I am using Vista Home Premium. I am desperate to open any of these three files as I have a job using them next week.

I am wondering, given that my RAM is sitting at max. levels, if there are any reasons, advantages or benefits to be had in changing the Virtual Memory - Paging File Size for all Drives, from the current size of 3369MB to the recommended size of 4603MB, or more....say 4950MB??
Ive sorted all my music into folders, but some don't have artist/album names, such as: i've right clicked and clicked rename, but it comes up as: i've also clicked properties etc, but no joy there: has anyone any idea how to do this? im on Windows Vista Basic.and its just your average folder. its really bugging me!

Happened, Windows lost the ability to Default-open Rtf files in wordpad. This Had been the default behavior. *At the time, OpenOffice was installed, and when this problem first occurred, Openoffce WP “became” the default Open action. I uninstalled Openoffice, which only resulted in “blank” icons for rtf files. Doubleclicking (shell-default verb) only results in “Windows cannot open this file…use web service, or browse to find correct application”
1) OK, web service does absolutely nothing. (Is this blocked by default firewall settings?)
2) Clicking “browse for correct app” SHOWS wordpad as the default, “suggested” app. (!!!) The “always use this app” checkbox is checked. Basically, this “checkbox” is apparently broken, because Windows can’t associate the file with the app. It always forgets, or does nothing.............
One of the main concepts of Windows Vista is to make things more simple, basically take some of the complexity out of Windows.The decision was made to do away with the old menu bar in many of the windows of Windows Vista because they simply looked too busy and offered the user too many, often confusing, choices.
This all sounds great but we are power users and most of us like complexity because it gives us more control. Thankfully, Microsoft didn't really do away with it completely, they just hid it. The next time you are using Windows Vista and wish that old menu bar was still around, just hit ALT on your keyboard and it magically appear!Â
I have an HP laptop with office. When I type out a paper in the word processor and attach it to an e-mail it cannot be opened - even on the same laptop. Any ideas/solutions? The attachment is in application/octet-stream. The two most abundant things in the world are hydrogen and stupidity.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to open an online game called "Subspace Continuum", the program loads but just gives me a black screen, sometimes shows a glitched cursor and instantly gets out of the game. Sometimes after this happens, Vista tells me that the colour scheme has changed. his only just started happening, and worked fine about 1 day ago, which was before I got 2 viruses called "Trojan:Win32/Alureon.CO" and "TrojanDownloader:Win32/Renos.KF". I am pretty sure these viruses have been removed now.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I turned my computer on today it seems that all of my filenames have 'disappeared' - the files are still called the same that I named them, but instead of them showing the titles, they either show the date modified or only certain details. I mainly have music on my hard drive, and now the folder looks like this:
As you can see, on the left in the folder tree, the path is showing up, the files are still there etc, but instead of the track titles, there is now only the artist and album? I have tried shift and view, tried different views, tried changing the folder view to pictures and videos etc, I have also completely scanned the drives and there doesn't seem to be any problems? I have a data transfer file from my old and now dead computer that includes Microsoft Outlook mail personal folders and mail. I am unable to open the .pst file with any existing extension or program offered by vista. When I open with Windows mail, I only get current, newly opened Windows Mail and new messages from last two days. I have all my work search information and my divorce e-mail files. I need them desperately....and soon.

In Winzip 12.0 when I open a zip file with pictures in it, it always brings them up in thumbnail view. I can change the view to "details" and get a list of the filenames which is what I want to be the default action. But I can't seem to find a place where I can set that to the default. Winzip 8.0 didn't do this. I was *happy* with 8.0 but unfortunately it isn't compatible with Vista or Windows 7

Create and association in the Set Associations control panel" I have been having a problem with my computer for several days now. Opening all programs causes me to recieve this error message. I have to use right click + Run as Administrator to use any of my programs. I have done some forum surfing and tried several recommended techniques for correcting this problem but to no avail. I downloaded the exefix_vista reg file but the very same problem prevents me from merging it (I even tried fixing the reg extension but that failed aswell). I have run the sfc/scannow in command propmt but that came up empty. I would have fresh installed but I am away from home and do not have the means to reinstall vista. I apologize if this post seems in any way redundant but my forum searches have failed me. HELP! PLEASE!
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs it possible without screwing windows Vista 64 up, to move a folder from one spot to another. Explenation: I added a second HD to my laptop(it holds 2). Iwant to move all my Games to that drive, I moved one and edit the shortcuts in Star menu. Now I was wondering is this going to screw up the registry or anything? I just Dragged the folder from Programs Folder to new Game folder on other HD. I do not want to have to reload it all. I mean i Have LotRo and Age of Conan bothe with at least an Hour of patchs I'd have to do again!
