When I try to open an online game called "Subspace Continuum", the program loads but just gives me a black screen, sometimes shows a glitched cursor and instantly gets out of the game. Sometimes after this happens, Vista tells me that the colour scheme has changed. his only just started happening, and worked fine about 1 day ago, which was before I got 2 viruses called "Trojan:Win32/Alureon.CO" and "TrojanDownloader:Win32/Renos.KF". I am pretty sure these viruses have been removed now.
everytime i try to access my games folder in program files, windows explorer crashes, so i just restart. I just want to know how to fix this, and here is the signature

I have check using my virus and malware programs and found nothing. Even check my firewall in windows and McAfee and they are not blocking this program. This program worked for awhile as free edition, but when I upgrade to liscence produce this happen. It will not even open the "splash window nor a welcome window". I have install the same program on Windows XP computer and it is running fine. But I need it to run on Windowas Vista Home Basic 32. Passage Express is a program to make family history (genelogy) on dvd.
I had to reinstall Vista on my computer. Previously I used Outlook. I can't find the activation code so I want to try Windows Mail. I saved my Outlook email pst file. Is there a way to get Windows Mail to open that file.
When ever i try to open my personal file (the one that contains my pictures and Videos and stuff) it crashes restarts and i get this:
Quote: Troubleshoot a problem with CyberLink Demultiplexer CyberLink Demultiplexer has stopped working properly. CyberLink Demultiplexer is a codec. The file name of this codec is CLDemuxer.ax........
I'm having difficulty putting photos and files on this computer. The discs were burned on my old PC which was running XP. When i try to access the files on the CD to put them back on my New PC it keeps crashing. Why is this happening? They work just fine on my old PC and my friends PCs. Im very frustrated. Is this something to do with Vista not being backwards compatible?
6 months ago i bought a new lappy and its been going really good with vista on it, no crashes of anykind that i can remember, but last week its just started playing up, Whenever i do anything explorer crashes, sometimes it resets itself and other times i have to load task manager and Run explorer.exe to get my desktop back. anytime i load IE7 it resets itself or anytime i load a new page it does it. It does it when i load explorer (file viewer) and within 10 sec it crashes and closes that with no error box or anything, simply resets or crashes and dosent come back. Same with control panel etc. i've tried my nod 32 virus scanner is up to date and i've run a spyware scan but its still crashing constantly. When i first load windows a missing file error pops up that never used to aswell, but its a different file missing each time i boot up.
Been using the forums a lot. I downloaded 7zip for V64 as an msi file. I clicked it and nothing happens. I then associated it with msiexec.exe out of syswow64 and then system32, no luck. I keep getting a dialogue box listing batch mode flags.
Vista had a freeze up when trying to transfer files from a USB stick - however all seemed normal after a restart. I also "upgraded" to AVG v8.01 (free) I have no idea if either of these actions have caused my problem. Now whenever I open 'any' folder it takes several seconds before the contents appear. After this all other folders open instantly. If I then close all the open folders - this behaviour repeats with the first folder to be opened taking time to open.
When I attempt to open .pdf file attachments I get the following: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. I have Abode Reader 9. I don't know how to do this. Where is the Set Associations control panel?
I was installing a .msi file. I double clicked it, and my cat jumped on my keyboard. This unchecked the "always ask before opening this type of file" box, and I clicked continue, not realising until I clicked it. how do I make it ask me again? This option was from running it, off of my desktop. This is to do with Windows Installer
I have a problem with office on 2 of my Pc's (Vista x64 & MCE2005) If I double click on any office file e.g. Spreadsheet.xlsx document.docx Nothing happens. Instead I must open them from the file (globe) open menu in program.
Vista Home Premium 64 bit Service Pack 1 Virus/Malware scanners up to date, nothing suspicious in tasks, no odd performance issues...Description of Problem After "Something ?" Happened, Windows lost the ability to Default-open Rtf files in wordpad. This Had been the default behavior. *At the time, OpenOffice was installed, and when this problem first occurred, Openoffce WP “became” the default Open action. I uninstalled Openoffice, which only resulted in “blank” icons for rtf files. Doubleclicking (shell-default verb) only results in “Windows cannot open this file…use web service, or browse to find correct application”
1) OK, web service does absolutely nothing. (Is this blocked by default firewall settings?) 2) Clicking “browse for correct app” SHOWS wordpad as the default, “suggested” app. (!!!) The “always use this app” checkbox is checked. Basically, this “checkbox” is apparently broken, because Windows can’t associate the file with the app. It always forgets, or does nothing.............
I have an HP laptop with office. When I type out a paper in the word processor and attach it to an e-mail it cannot be opened - even on the same laptop. Any ideas/solutions? The attachment is in application/octet-stream. The two most abundant things in the world are hydrogen and stupidity.
When I receive a .doc attachment, I can't open it from the email. I get the message "the file cannot be found." If I save the attachment to a folder then try to open it, I am able to. Why won't it open directly from the email?
I'm working in InDesign. I prefer for all my windows to come up in Detail view. When I "Open a File," the window comes up in List view. I can change that specific window to Detail, and it will stay that way, but I can't figure out how to universally change all such windows to open in Detail. Anybody know?
I have a data transfer file from my old and now dead computer that includes Microsoft Outlook mail personal folders and mail. I am unable to open the .pst file with any existing extension or program offered by vista. When I open with Windows mail, I only get current, newly opened Windows Mail and new messages from last two days. I have all my work search information and my divorce e-mail files. I need them desperately....and soon.
When I go to open an attachment, it tells me "The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." I have no idea what that means or how to find that control panel.
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create and association in the Set Associations control panel" I have been having a problem with my computer for several days now. Opening all programs causes me to recieve this error message. I have to use right click + Run as Administrator to use any of my programs. I have done some forum surfing and tried several recommended techniques for correcting this problem but to no avail. I downloaded the exefix_vista reg file but the very same problem prevents me from merging it (I even tried fixing the reg extension but that failed aswell). I have run the sfc/scannow in command propmt but that came up empty. I would have fresh installed but I am away from home and do not have the means to reinstall vista. I apologize if this post seems in any way redundant but my forum searches have failed me. HELP! PLEASE!
When I start installing it, it goes through the "Copying Files" stage instantly, and then hangs up at 0% on "Expanding Files". Then, anywhere from 10 seconds to 3 minutes later, my screen goes black like it's not receiving a monitor signal anymore, and nothing else happens.
I Googled the problem and found a ton of threads here and elsewhere with the same issue, with a slight variation, but none of them had issues posted, and they were all relatively old.
I've had my computer for about two months now. It came with Windows Vista. I installed Norton antivirus on it right away. For the past month it's been crashing almost every other day.
I have no idea what is going on. I asked a Dell tech and they said to run startup repair, but I'm still having problems.
just put together this computer and it ran good for the first few days, now it's to the point where it won't even boot up. It first crashed on me when loading up a game, then it crashed during the middle of updating. It crashes in start up sometimes and it freezes when I'm trying to run the memory diagnostics tool. The blue screen keeps giving me this message "Driver irql not less or equal" and I have no idea what's wrong, can anyone help? Sorry if this is kinda blunt I'm typing this on my phone bc now i don't have a computer to work from.
I just don't get why "YOU" have to find resolutions to Microsoft's problems its very upsetting. Its out of the box about 5 days.

I have neverwinter nights loaded on my pc with both expansion packs.
it also has a hard update (i.e. manually downloaded .exe file) as teh self updater wouldn't find it, but now it keeps crashing on loadup where it shows developer logos.
I just updated my windows Vista and when I then tried starting my computer afterwards it went into repair-mode. I tried to repair the flaws, but apparently it couldn't fix it all. It still goes directly to an entirely black screen with only my cursor marker on it, when I was supposed to write my password. I've already tried to start it in every safe-mode available? I installed it yesterday (15/11), as soon as i could.
My Vista works fine in safe mode. I uninstalled almost every program I ever installed, I wrote down all of the processes that were running in safe mode and then rebooted and killed each process one by one, replicating the crash inciting event...opening any folder, after killing each process until I was down to the processes that were running in safe mode...and the ones that kept restarting themselves and I can't get the problem fixed.
I am using an HP Pavilion dv9000 running the pre-installed Vista Home Premium. The HP rebuild disk boots up into a repair screen, says it is repairing and if it works it will restart normally, which it does but I still have the same problem. I have run every anti virus/anti virus I could get my hands on (none of which seem to be getting rid of this Virtumonde piece of %*&, which is the least of my worries at this point unless it is causing the crashes).
I am about ready to take my laptop to the shooting range with me or upgrade to Windows XP because I have honestly not seen a single value added by Vista. If anyone has any ideas I would gratefully listen. If not, I think I am shooting this hard drive (really) and restarting with XP or some flavor of **ix and running XP in VMware.
I bought my pc about a year and half ago. Had an x86 Vista Ultimate edition on it and it all worked fine. 4 GB RAM and a good CPU made it run smooth. I then decided to upgrade my RAM to 8 GB and also upgraded my Windows with it to an x64 Vista Ultimate. Ever since I upgraded, my pc has been crashing like mad. When I play games my pc crashes constantly in a timeframe ranging from 20mins to 2 hours.
I freezes completely and it ends up in me having to force hard reset my pc. I don't know what the problem is atm and in all fairness it's driving me mad. Sometimes I boot my pc, I check mails and whoops, frozen and have to reboot. Is it possible that there's a compatibility problem with the RAM and my x64 Vista?
i get on websites (example: facebook, Internet) sometimes my computer will crash (bluescreen of death). i have ran super deep scan for viruses on my computer with bitdifender internet security 2009 and has not found any viruses. i am also sure it is not my registry. windows says the problem is related to my ethernet, i don't know how. anyways, i gathered all my system information that i could.............
