Opening Outlook .pst File Within Windows Mail

Mar 23, 2008

I have a data transfer file from my old and now dead computer that includes Microsoft Outlook mail personal folders and mail. I am unable to open the .pst file with any existing extension or program offered by vista. When I open with Windows mail, I only get current, newly opened Windows Mail and new messages from last two days. I have all my work search information and my divorce e-mail files. I need them desperately....and soon.

Pdf Attachments File Will Not Open In Windows Mail

Apr 16, 2010

Sometime last year, I began having trouble opening .pdf attachments in windows mail. I get the following message whenever I attempt to open the ..pdf file in windows mail:?This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel?.

I have been ?saving? the attachment to ?desktop? in order to open it, etc. I?ve already checked & have reset the Set Associations control panel?s .pdf to adobe. I have no problem opening ?Word? or any other document, just ..pdf-- & I ONLY have trouble with this in windows mail. The other two Users on my HP desktop are not having my user problem & I am growing weary of constantly having to save/open each document OUTSIDE of windows mail every time I receive .pdf attachments.

How I Can Get A .wps File (MS Works) To Open Directly In Windows Mail?

Jul 29, 2009

how I can get a .wps file (MS Works) to open directly in Windows Mail? I have the file association configured and everything works perfectly if I first save the attachment to a folder then double-click it, but it is annoying to have to do this.

A friend had the same problem with .pps files (Power Point) which would not open directly in Windows Mail even though she had the Power Point Viewer installed and a proper file association. There was a a registry edit on the Microsoft site that fixed that nicely and I am hoping that someone knows of something similar for .wps files.

Unable To Open Attachments In Windows Mail: Windows Cannot Find File Name

Jul 29, 2009

There are discussions on this general subject but no aparent resolution. About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.

Windows Not Opening A File

Apr 16, 2009

Vista Home Premium 64 bit Service Pack 1 Virus/Malware scanners up to date, nothing suspicious in tasks, no odd performance issues...Description of Problem After "Something ?" Happened, Windows lost the ability to Default-open Rtf files in wordpad. This Had been the default behavior. *At the time, OpenOffice was installed, and when this problem first occurred, Openoffce WP “became” the default Open action. I uninstalled Openoffice, which only resulted in “blank” icons for rtf files. Doubleclicking (shell-default verb) only results in “Windows cannot open this file…use web service, or browse to find correct application”

1) OK, web service does absolutely nothing. (Is this blocked by default firewall settings?)
2) Clicking “browse for correct app” SHOWS wordpad as the default, “suggested” app. (!!!) The “always use this app” checkbox is checked. Basically, this “checkbox” is apparently broken, because Windows can’t associate the file with the app. It always forgets, or does nothing.............

File Open & File Save Dialog Box Hangs

May 15, 2010

Whenever I request a "File|Open" or "File|Save" from any application, the mini-Windows-Explorer dialog box that opens freezes and hangs the entire application. Happens with almost all applications. Not limited to just Microsoft programs. It does not matter if I like change the download folder or if I rt click always the same.

Back when it was under warranty Hp tells me to just restore to original settings. I hate to do that. But I am about to see that this might be the only fix for it. (But I am hoping not.) I think it started a long time ago when I was changing the USB ports I used for my external Hard drive and it changed drive letter. (maybe maybe not.. just seems I remember that being something that had happened when I first recall things hanging...) anyway I have all drives in the place I want them now and this issue still happens even if I dont have that external drive plugged in.

"this File Could Not Be Found" - Windows Mail Cant Open Attached

May 5, 2009

Since I installed IE8, I have had a lot of small glitches. I have been able to clean them all up. But this one has been completely resistant to all my attempts to solve it. Here is the problem. Please READ this and do not jump to conclusions (such as that the problem is a program association problem -- which it is NOT) that are not based on this scenario, nor recommend to me doing something that I have already tried.

- I receive a Word document attached to an e-mail.
- I double click on the document in the ATTACH box of the received e-mail.
- Windows Mail opens a MAIL ATTACHMENT window asking if I want to open the document.
- Word 2007 opens.
- Word 2007 opens a MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD window that says "This file could not be found. (C:...Filename ...)" where Filename is the name of the .DOC file.

The same thing happens with PDF files: Adobe Acrobat Reader opens but then opens an ADOBE READER window that says "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found.".........

Can Not Open Pps File From E-mail Attachment

Mar 26, 2008

I cannot open pps files that I get as an attachment in an e-mail. I get the message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel."by editing the registry renaming Show to Open. I still get the same message when trying to open the attachment. If I save the attachment to the desktop or a folder, I am able to open it. I use PowerPoint Viewer 2003 and my OS is Vista Home Premium with SP1. Before I installed SP1, I had to re-image my hard drive. Previous to the re-image I was able to open a pps attachment from an e-mail because before the re-image I had edited the registry as indicated in the above link. My question is - why doesn't this fix work now?

'Windows Cannot Open Required File"

May 15, 2010

I have a problem with my Packard Bell ISTART 2380 Due to the fact that my Packard Bell ISTART 2380 contained many viruses, I finally decided to to do a complete recovery install. I am currently trying to recover my Packard Bell PC but I'm having considerable problems doing so. Firstly, I created a 'DVDrecovery disc' using Packard Bell's Smart Restore console and I also downloaded and created a 'Vista recovery iso file' from neosmart.net onto a DVD using an application called Imgburn. I burned this iso file at two different speeds as I have read that burning an iso file at certain speeds, particlulary high speeds, can affect the actual files contained in the iso file. possibly making them currupt and unreadable when doing an install from it.

Messages I have been receiving over the course of trying to solve this problem, include; 'BOOTMGR is missing' and 'Windows cannot open the required file E:Sourcesinstall.wim'. Error code 0x80070002. I don't quite understand why this is happening considering that this Packard Bell model, like many, now come with a special partition as part of the Hard drive (called a Boot partition? or 'X' drive) where I can only presume all the necessary files required for a successful restore or even a full install of Vista itself reside. I have gone through the standard Packard Bell recovery console to repair Windows Vista Home Premium and also to reinstall it completely but it doesn't resolve things at all............

Instantly Crashing File Opening

When I try to open an online game called "Subspace Continuum", the program loads but just gives me a black screen, sometimes shows a glitched cursor and instantly gets out of the game. Sometimes after this happens, Vista tells me that the colour scheme has changed. his only just started happening, and worked fine about 1 day ago, which was before I got 2 viruses called "Trojan:Win32/Alureon.CO" and "TrojanDownloader:Win32/Renos.KF". I am pretty sure these viruses have been removed now.

"Windows Failed To Load Because A File Is Missing Or Corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221

Oct 15, 2009

when i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?

Microsoft removed the legacy Windows Help .hlp file viewer, winhlp32.exe, from Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2. Dating back to Windows 3.1, Microsoft says the Windows Help components have not been updated in years and no longer meets internal standards.  If you have an older application that still uses .hlp files and must be able to view .hlp files Microsoft has released an add-on that will restore the viewer...

Opening All Programs Error File Does Not Have A Program Associated Performing This Action

Jan 17, 2009

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create and association in the Set Associations control panel" I have been having a problem with my computer for several days now. Opening all programs causes me to recieve this error message. I have to use right click + Run as Administrator to use any of my programs. I have done some forum surfing and tried several recommended techniques for correcting this problem but to no avail. I downloaded the exefix_vista reg file but the very same problem prevents me from merging it (I even tried fixing the reg extension but that failed aswell). I have run the sfc/scannow in command propmt but that came up empty. I would have fresh installed but I am away from home and do not have the means to reinstall vista. I apologize if this post seems in any way redundant but my forum searches have failed me. HELP! PLEASE!
