I'm using Windows mail on Vista enterprise 32 bit. I can see there's a few posters in this group I've no interest in reading (I couldn't care less about some posters opinions of Windows contra Linux, I use both happily) and I'd like to skip over them. What's the best way to set up a kill file in Windows mail?

Hardly any help is offered here just a bunch of people saying this and that about each other, or defending Ubuntu in a windows group?

The software giant has decided to replace OneCare with a free security solution (codenamed "Morro") to be released in the second half of next year. The yet-to-be-announced product will be a realtime anti-malware protection solution, whereas OneCare offered that plus backup and management features. Sales of the Windows Live OneCare subscription service as well as Windows Live OneCare for Server on SBS 2008 will end on June 30, 2009.
If your subscription is about to run out, I'd suggest looking for an alternative instead of renewing a product that is on its way out the door. Sure, OneCare will continue to be available online until Morro is available and your subscription will still work until it ends, but Microsoft's decision makes the company look unreliable. I had to reinstall Vista on my computer. Previously I used Outlook. I can't find the activation code so I want to try Windows Mail. I saved my Outlook email pst file. Is there a way to get Windows Mail to open that file.

About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.

I am unable to open the .pst file with any existing extension or program offered by vista. When I open with Windows mail, I only get current, newly opened Windows Mail and new messages from last two days. I have all my work search information and my divorce e-mail files. I need them desperately....and soon.

Vista home premium on them and they come with Windows Mail (formerly outlook). Well, hardly any attachments come through with Windows Mail, while outlook 2003 is working just fine. The help file on Windows mail says to go Tools, Options, Security, and to uncheck the boxes that keep attachments from opening. I have done this, and of course, it doesnt work. Messages continue to come through without any attachments on Windows Mail, while the the pc's with outlook are just fine. Most attachments in any kind of file format don't come through. We are particularly concerned with PDF files which we need more than anything else.

I have been ?saving? the attachment to ?desktop? in order to open it, etc. I?ve already checked & have reset the Set Associations control panel?s .pdf to adobe. I have no problem opening ?Word? or any other document, just ..pdf-- & I ONLY have trouble with this in windows mail. The other two Users on my HP desktop are not having my user problem & I am growing weary of constantly having to save/open each document OUTSIDE of windows mail every time I receive .pdf attachments.

Whenever I try to click on "File > Import > Messages... > Microsof Outlook " a pop up window appears to me warning me about a MAPI driver problem (it is not installed). I have already tried to download an Outlook 2007 trial version in order to solve this problem, but I didn't work. Does anybody know how to solve this problem? The emails I have in the pst files are very imporant and I really need to import them to Windows Mail.
View 9 Replies View Relatedhow I can get a .wps file (MS Works) to open directly in Windows Mail? I have the file association configured and everything works perfectly if I first save the attachment to a folder then double-click it, but it is annoying to have to do this.
A friend had the same problem with .pps files (Power Point) which would not open directly in Windows Mail even though she had the Power Point Viewer installed and a proper file association. There was a a registry edit on the Microsoft site that fixed that nicely and I am hoping that someone knows of something similar for .wps files.
Since I upgraded to IE8,
1)I can no longer open MS office attachments such as .doc or excel in Windows Mail
2) Many images on websites are no longer viewable, just show as a box with a red x. I click on the "compatability" button, but that doesnt work with either. I tried unclicking the dont allow attachments button, didnt work.
is there a file size limit with windows mail? i have been sent files and they do not make it through to my email account with windows mail, but they are viewable at the yahoo server? is there a place where i can change the size of the files to be allowed to be received?

View 4 Replies View Relatedrecently tried to install vista 32bit on my computer, it was successfull until i installed nvidia display drivers. The error i got was: Error: Display driver has stopped working and has recovered successfully. I even tried to get Omega drivers, and old archived nvidia drivers did not work. So i gave up, and asked my retailer if i could get the x64bit instead. they aggreed with that. So i installed that one also correctly. No problems with the GPU drivers there, however in games my computer kept restarting after playing ~20mins and two days later my Powersupply died. a 600W PSU from OCZ. I then removed vista from my computer and is now running xp x64 and i have no problems what so ever. But i want Vista! loved the functions. I want to try again soon, but im not sure if my computer will survive.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running into a problem with my sound when playing games. For some reason my sound stops working completely after starting a game. It happens in games like COD4, L4D, TF2, and so on. Even when I close the game, I get no sound on anything. It is as if the audio service stops completely. I am using Vista Ultimate x64 on a Intel i5 750 with a Radeon 4890 XXX 1 gig card. My audio card is an onboard Realtek HD. My mobo is an Intel DP55WB. I only notice it when I play games, and the timing varies. Last night I played L4D for 10 minutes before it happened, and today it happened 10 seconds into COD4. It feels as if it is an intermittent conflict between something. I tried reinstalling new drivers, but it doesn't work. Does anyone know what to look for in a case like this?

I am an advanced of a computer user to know that I do not have anti-virus software installed. I don't need the Windows Security Center to remind me that all the time.
Thankfully there is a new easy way to disable the security center messages.
Click on the Security Center/Windows Security Alerts logo in the system tray.
Click Change the way Security Center alerts me.
Select I do not want notification messages from Security Center.
It is now that easy.
I'm sure you are familiar with the traditional way to kill or end a process in Windows using Task Manager. This method is effective but not nearly as fun as killing a process in Command Prompt. Additionally, killing processes in Command Prompt provides much more control and the ability to end multiple processes at once....
View 0 Replies View Relatedwhenever I put the computer to sleep mode and move the mouse while it's getting into sleep mode, it'll either restart or kill the computer. When it kills the computer, the fans still run but the lights on the front go out. There is also no picture on the monitor. To turn off the computer, I have to force a shutdown by holding the power button for around 4 seconds. Then, when I try to turn on the computer again, the fans turn on, the hard drive runs, but still no lights on the front of the case nor picutre on the screen. I fixed it by clearing the RTC RAM on the motherboard. After doing that, the computer would boot up, but if I did sleep mode and moved the mouse, then the computer would die again, and I'd have to clear the RTC RAM again. I'm wondering why this happens with sleep mode. I use Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Is there a solution to this problem or does anyone else have this problem?

View 6 Replies View RelatedSince I installed IE8, I have had a lot of small glitches. I have been able to clean them all up. But this one has been completely resistant to all my attempts to solve it. Here is the problem. Please READ this and do not jump to conclusions (such as that the problem is a program association problem -- which it is NOT) that are not based on this scenario, nor recommend to me doing something that I have already tried.
- I receive a Word document attached to an e-mail.
- I double click on the document in the ATTACH box of the received e-mail.
- Windows Mail opens a MAIL ATTACHMENT window asking if I want to open the document.
- Word 2007 opens.
- Word 2007 opens a MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD window that says "This file could not be found. (C:...Filename ...)" where Filename is the name of the .DOC file.
The same thing happens with PDF files: Adobe Acrobat Reader opens but then opens an ADOBE READER window that says "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found.".........
when i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?
