Opening Pst File: Windows Mail To Open That File
Feb 21, 2009I had to reinstall Vista on my computer. Previously I used Outlook. I can't find the activation code so I want to try Windows Mail. I saved my Outlook email pst file. Is there a way to get Windows Mail to open that file.

Happened, Windows lost the ability to Default-open Rtf files in wordpad. This Had been the default behavior. *At the time, OpenOffice was installed, and when this problem first occurred, Openoffce WP “became” the default Open action. I uninstalled Openoffice, which only resulted in “blank” icons for rtf files. Doubleclicking (shell-default verb) only results in “Windows cannot open this file…use web service, or browse to find correct application”
1) OK, web service does absolutely nothing. (Is this blocked by default firewall settings?)
2) Clicking “browse for correct app” SHOWS wordpad as the default, “suggested” app. (!!!) The “always use this app” checkbox is checked. Basically, this “checkbox” is apparently broken, because Windows can’t associate the file with the app. It always forgets, or does nothing.............

Sometimes after this happens, Vista tells me that the colour scheme has changed. his only just started happening, and worked fine about 1 day ago, which was before I got 2 viruses called "Trojan:Win32/Alureon.CO" and "TrojanDownloader:Win32/Renos.KF". I am pretty sure these viruses have been removed now.

Create and association in the Set Associations control panel" I have been having a problem with my computer for several days now. Opening all programs causes me to recieve this error message. I have to use right click + Run as Administrator to use any of my programs. I have done some forum surfing and tried several recommended techniques for correcting this problem but to no avail. I downloaded the exefix_vista reg file but the very same problem prevents me from merging it (I even tried fixing the reg extension but that failed aswell). I have run the sfc/scannow in command propmt but that came up empty. I would have fresh installed but I am away from home and do not have the means to reinstall vista. I apologize if this post seems in any way redundant but my forum searches have failed me. HELP! PLEASE!

Apr 18, 2009About 2 months ago I installed Vista Ultimate 64-bit on my PC. About 2 weeks ago it starting rebooting sometimes when I open something like an image file or even Internet Explorer. It doesn't happen evey time and only happens about once a day (but only when I go to open something). I want to figure this out so that I don't lose any data or end up with some data corruption. I have run the Windows memory diagnostic tool and it didn't find any issues. The only event in the Event viewer that even related to the issue, was an event logged after it finished rebooting that stated the PC was shutdown improperly.

May 1, 2008For a short time I had installed pkzip. It is now uninstalled, but apparantly has left Windows Explorer as the program used to open zip files. When I click on a zip file, Windows explorer opens, closes, opens, closes ad infinitum. Only recourse is to force a reboot.
I would like to change the default opens with ... to something that works. I see that on my XP computer the recommended program for opening zip files is called "Compressed (zip) Folders". I can't find such a program on Vista. Also, the only recommended program showing up on Vista "Open With" is Windows Explorer, which I know is a disaster.I can right-click and select Extract All to work around this problem, but would like to get the Open function working correctly.

Feb 25, 2010When I click on a web link in an application, it opens the url in MS Word, not Firefox (default bowser).
For example:
In CCleaner if I click the 'check for updates' link in the bottom of the window, Word will open up, a download box will appear and then it displays the website as a document.
This happens for all apps, however it doesn't happen if I click on a .html/.url document from explorer, that will launch Firefox just fine.

Aug 2, 2009My CD Tray is now opening and closing every 2 min. If i put in a disk, such as a game disk, and start the game, the tray will stop opening and closing. Once I stop the game, the tray starts opening and closing again.

NOT Opening Volume Mixer
Mar 23, 2008My OS has been very stable (latest patches etc applied, no new software/hardware). When I rightclick on the Sndvol.exe applet in the SysTrack the menu appears. I can choose Playback, Record, etc. but NOT Open Volume Mixer. Nor do I see the slider. When I left click on the Open Volume Mixer it looks like it triggers an Event to the OS, but nothing happens. I have rebooted (warm & cold) and even Restored to an earlier date without success.
