Text Services And Input Languages / Language Bar Is Greyed
Aug 8, 2005
I'm running winxp (en) on a pentium 4 machine with 512 MB RAM. Out of a sudden, my language bar on the taskbar was completely empty. in "text services and input languages" The language bar is greyed. I managed to set a key combination in order to switch back and forth beetwen French German and english. (Shift+Left Alt) is not working any more. When I run Winword (Office 2003) , the correct language is displayed in the status bar but Winword does not seem to recognize the language correctly what was the case before.
After power outtage (yes I do know about UPSs)-after power returned I am unable to input text in any kind of field including Word, Notepad, ol express, URL boxes-nothing. I re-booted twice but still no joy.
How many of you here use multi languages on the PC? I am having a BIG PROBLEM with the Language Tool Bar. I've been using English an Japanese on my PC and this never happened.I used the Microsoft Office 2003 Language Setting to "add" Japanese and it's been running fine. But today, all the sudden, the Language Tool Bar disappeared. Language Tool Bar = The bar appears automatically on the screen when you are using multi languages on the PC.If the Language Tool Bar is in inactive, it's restored on the Left-Bottom of the screen. Eng for English, Jp for Japanese. So I tried removing the settings and re-added, re-started, nothing happened. Also I tried Control Panel, Regions and Language Setting, added Japanese (it was already added), nothing happens. In fact, if I see the current settings, there are English and Japanese there! I tried Spybot and Ad-aware to see if any problem. Then re-started, result, same. Updated IE to 7.0, result, same.I didn't change any settings today, no new downloads or installations before this problem occurred.
When trying to install east asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, etc) I get a prompt that reads "The file 'xjis.nls' on Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM is needed."But placing the XP Home CD-ROM in the drive doesn't do anything. The drive runs for a few seconds and the same prompt reappears.Has anyone experienced this? Can anyone offer help or a solution?
Using WinXP and OE as the mail program. When in mail program and choose, Tools>Options>Spelling and the 3rd choice in the dialog boxlisted is languages. This is where the problem is. I don't have the choice of English to choose from, ONLY French is the single choice when thumbnail is clicked. This controls mychoices in spell checker.Does anyone know how I can get English back on here as a choice as we have no use for the French choices in using the spell checker. This PC came pre-loaded with WINxp and OE from Dell so we have no installation CD.
I want to know if there is possible to put a specific text over the desktop and when the user change the wallpaper the text continues appearing at the same position (basically I want to do it on Windows XP).People says that an image worth more than thousands of words... Ok this is a screenshot of what I want to do
Lately i've been battling a virus infection with a w32.spybot.worm. Thanks to symantec antivirus corporate edition (which can detect but never repair) and microsoft antispyware software i've eliminated it. Yet today a new infection popped up from a file "eraseme_12604.exe" in my system32 (i dont know how it got there). I figured I might as well enable the XP firewall to prevent new infections from happening, but when i went to the firewall settings they were set to OFF, and all options (including the ability to turn it on) were greyed out. Did the virus modify my registry somehow and how can i remidy the situation. I am running windows XP prof with sp2
I've spent several hour perusing google searches, but haven't found anything high enough quality to suit my needs. I have an Xbox 360 set up to run on my monitor, and until recently had the audio run through my line-in connection and output through my headset with 3.5mm jacks. Then I bought a usb headset, and can no longer find a good way to pass the line-in audio through to the usb sound card built into the headset.I tried using Audacity to playback audio as it recorded, and it works, but the sound quality is terrible, and I really would like a better solution than that.Other things I've tried is using a winamp plugin (I couldn't even get that to start working) and opening my computer's basic sound card's input as a capture device in VLC media player (couldn't get it to work either). Can anyone provide a better way get the Xbox audio to the usb headset? an increase in sound quality to audacity would be ok, I may just need to learn to set it up better.
I am attempting to reinstall windows 2000 via a boot disk. The windows 2000 that was running will no longer start due to a corrupt system file (probably due to and improper shut-down). I've got the system attempting the boot from the disk just fine and it seems to be ok. While it begins to boot in dos, I get the msg; [DR-DOS] A:> and it awaits my command. I'm not sure what to imput in order to get the boot disk to run. I've tried to direct it to the disk drive and the filename of the ISO file on the boot disk, but does not recognize it.
I did a defrag last night... and also removed several programs, and I believe I deleted something by accident on the add/remove list. I cannot get music to play... I cannot get audio, period. All I get is a beep when I try to access an audio application."this computer does not appear to have audio input capability, or it is not configured correctly
I'm using a fairly new install of Windows XP SP2 on my laptop.
Clicking on "New Connection Wizard", then select the "Connect to my Workplace" option which would normally allow me to create a VPN connection, is greyed out.
I've googled on this problem and found issues suggesting that
1. XP SP1 be re-installed (I'm upto SP2, which I've tried re-installing without success) 2. HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionTelephony be deleted (have tried this, rebooted, no success) 3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesRasManPPPEAP25 and 26 (tried this, rebooted, no success) 4. Find SR.INF and re-install (tried, rebooted, no change)
Having tried all of the above, I've had no joy at all. The VPN option in "New Connection Wizard" remains greyed out.
The problem did appear to begin when I did a System Restore after a bad s/w installation.
In addition - when I try to re-start the Remote Access Connection Manager Service I receive Error 5: Access is Denied. I'm logged on as a Local Administrator. I believe this is related.
I have seen this problem listed for Win98 and ME, but not for Win2000. I just updated IE to 6.0 and now the left pane in Explorer is greyed out and blank, fix for Win2000?
I am having problems with my keyboard. In device manager under the General tab the device usage box is 'greyed' out so I cannot enable my keyboard. I have a logitech mouse and keyboard and the software is installed. The mouse works fine but the keyboard..mmm frustrating.
I have a strange anomoly when reinstalling XP. After the installation reboots into device configuration and I "ok" the keyboard config, the product key entry page comes up and locks the system. I am befuddled. I have tried booting into safe-mode (can't boot into safe-mode during setup), restarting the installation, running repair on the installation and chkdsk /r. I was able to install a second image to a new system directory. I would rather not rebuild my entire configuration via the second image. Anyone have an idea why the original installation is freezing as indicated?
Is Active Desktop Controls Greyed Out Ie Set As Background All Not An Option Also In Display Options Background Greyed Out So I Cannot Reset Or Restore Active Desktop Although At Boot Up My Previous Choice Of Desktop Background Shows Until The Icons Are Established Then The Screen Shows Active Desktop Has Been Turned Off Doesnt Support Do You Want To Run On This Page Tried Afew Thing Including Removing Security Programmesr
I am trying to make a flash drive bootable into wxpro. I have several format tools inclucing hp format tool. When I tried to access 98 startup disk to format my rally drive I got the message "no media". I copied the files to another area and received the same message. I then tried the format tool in xp. I cannot access the greyed out area to include msdos sys files. I have a old dos 6.0 prog that I use at work. I have been able to get the prog to work in 98. The use of a flash drive would be excellent if I can get it to work. To access/remove computer is a hassle and if I could just plug in a flash drive in would be excellent. So far I havent been able to get the drive to boot into xp.
After a recent reinstall of the os-WinXP Pro- the screensaver tab is there but all settings are greyed out. This happened once before and was able to fix it through some start-run command but can't remember or find it again. Just had to click on screensaver.exe and click enable, or something like that.
Like many I had problems with the antivirusxp virus. Using the recommended Malware program seemed to help at first, however yesterday my Internet Explorer became corrupted. When I click on LAN settings, all the boxes are greyed out. So I assume that I'll need to reinstall Internet Explorer. I've had the pc for 4 years & cannot find the installation discs. So my question is: If I download IE onto a cd & reinstall it, will this rectify my problem?
Its a Laptop - C2D T5780,2GB RAM, 320GB HDD Windows XP SP2 Avira Antivirus says everything is fine, so its not viruses. The problem is that windows xp hangs after booting up to the welcome screen where i select the user and key in the password. It happens fairly regularly, like once every 5-6 times i boot up the system. By hang i mean that it doesn't take keyboard input, i can move the mouse cursor around but clicks don't have any effect. The HDD activity LED keeps blinking fairly regularly. Like every 5 seconds.I end up having to do a hard reboot.
PC hangs in any one of the following ways;screen blinks black for a second of so, then returns but is frozen (no mouse movement or anything)screen blinks black and returns but all garbled & corrupted and frozen screen blinks black and monitor says "no input" and promptly turns itself off this usually occurs between half an hour and an hour of turning the PC on.. but the duration is by no means fixed, and it will sometimes only last a few minutes. the same applies after a restart.
I just wanted to get some input on the viability of the integrated backup utility in Windows XP.Is it a workable solutions for a small business with 10-15 desktops to backup to a file server? What is a restoration like? Other (potentially better?) options.
i'm pretty sure my entire fiasco has something to do with my registry.in my display properties i only have three tabs, screen saver, appearance, settings.in folder options "show common tasks in folders" is greyed out and "single click to open" is also greyed out and other options throughout certain settings are greyed out in speech properties the apply button is greyed out and when i click on audio input to adjust the volume the microphone volume it is way down and i bring it back up and press ok and go back and its down again.a lot of my settings are reverting back shortly after i apply them. its been like this for a couple months me being too lazy to do anything about it and before all this happened my system was working perfectly fine. then one day everything changed. i'm pretty sure its not a virus or a worm but i think something is wrong with my registry.
hey when i turn on my computer all the lights turn on and it makes this noise the fan starts but then it stops and everything just turns off the screen comes up NO INPUT SIGNAL and then POWER SAVING.
When I turn on my PC the POST and the Windows Loading Screen appear on the monitor, but then after that the monitor says there is no input when I'm supposed to be able to see the login screen. The monitor is still working properly as I'm using it right now with it connected to my laptop. The only thing I can think of doing is reformatting and re-installing Windows XP. I've got all my data, because I made a backup on the external HDD the night before, but I'll check it on the laptop to see if it works before I do anything. I was going to do a reformat anyway as I kept getting blue screens when I tried to play games or use Windows Live Messenger's sharing folders, but I'd still like to be able to actually go on the PC one last time to see if I've got everything.
I have been coding in dBase since 1982. Upgrading to Win95, 98 and ME was no problem. But now that I have upgraded to XP on a 3.2 ghz Intel machine with a gig of ram, I am having two serious performance problems. I am using dBase IV 2.0. Keyboard input is slow and sporadic to display. Printing is delayed by up to a minute, but will execute immediatley if I exit the program. I have tried changing every aspet of the short cuts properties, including compatibily option, and executing it from CMD.EXE instead of COMMAND.COM.
I have registry key errors in the Input tab under Dxdiag. See attached files for full visuals, I found in the attachment DxDiag.txt It says that I have Registry Key errors
