I did a defrag last night... and also removed several programs, and I believe I deleted something by accident on the add/remove list. I cannot get music to play... I cannot get audio, period. View 14 RepliesI reinstalled my OS and all my software, shortly thereafter I noticed I had an issue where any sound that was coming through my headphones was being retransmitted through the mic, with further testing I found that this was not actually the case but rather any sound that would be output is being retransmitted as audio in, even if I had no speakers, headphones or mics connected. I have looked at and experimented with everything I could in every sound settings.
I have tried updated drivers, the only way for me to stop the issue from occurring is to mute the mic in the recording control, but that stops me from using the mic altogether. I need to be able to use my mic without recording anything that I am hearing as well.
I Have Win XP, Microsoft Office 2003 and use DSL. Is it possible to activate the fax capability on MS Office with this combination. Please give specifics if this is possible.TIA -Telephonics

In working with themes,I have the Plus! files working fine in WindowsResourcesThemes.My older themes are happier in C:Program FilesPlus!Themes, altho that really depends on whether or not the .theme. File needs to appear on an upper level. The manager for the latter comes from the wmbonusxp.exe file.

I have an Xbox 360 set up to run on my monitor, and until recently had the audio run through my line-in connection and output through my headset with 3.5mm jacks. Then I bought a usb headset, and can no longer find a good way to pass the line-in audio through to the usb sound card built into the headset.I tried using Audacity to playback audio as it recorded, and it works, but the sound quality is terrible, and I really would like a better solution than that.Other things I've tried is using a winamp plugin (I couldn't even get that to start working) and opening my computer's basic sound card's input as a capture device in VLC media player (couldn't get it to work either).Can anyone provide a better way get the Xbox audio to the usb headset? an increase in sound quality to audacity would be ok, I may just need to learn to set it up better.

The windows 2000 that was running will no longer start due to a corrupt system file (probably due to and improper shut-down). I've got the system attempting the boot from the disk just fine and it seems to be ok. While it begins to boot in dos, I get the msg; [DR-DOS] A:> and it awaits my command. I'm not sure what to imput in order to get the boot disk to run. I've tried to direct it to the disk drive and the filename of the ISO file on the boot disk, but does not recognize it.

After the installation reboots into device configuration and I "ok" the keyboard config, the product key entry page comes up and locks the system. I am befuddled. I have tried booting into safe-mode (can't boot into safe-mode during setup), restarting the installation, running repair on the installation and chkdsk /r. I was able to install a second image to a new system directory. I would rather not rebuild my entire configuration via the second image. Anyone have an idea why the original installation is freezing as indicated?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIts a Laptop - C2D T5780,2GB RAM, 320GB HDD Windows XP SP2 Avira Antivirus says everything is fine, so its not viruses.The problem is that windows xp hangs after booting up to the welcome screen where i select the user and key in the password.It happens fairly regularly, like once every 5-6 times i boot up the system. By hang i mean that it doesn't take keyboard input, i can move the mouse cursor around but clicks don't have any effect. The HDD activity LED keeps blinking fairly regularly. Like every 5 seconds.I end up having to do a hard reboot.

Out of a sudden, my language bar on the taskbar was completely empty. in "text services and input languages" The language bar is greyed. I managed to set a key combination in order to switch back and forth beetwen French German and english. (Shift+Left Alt) is not working any more. When I run Winword (Office 2003) , the correct language is displayed in the status bar but Winword does not seem to recognize the language correctly what was the case before.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn on my PC the POST and the Windows Loading Screen appear on the monitor, but then after that the monitor says there is no input when I'm supposed to be able to see the login screen. The monitor is still working properly as I'm using it right now with it connected to my laptop.The only thing I can think of doing is reformatting and re-installing Windows XP. I've got all my data, because I made a backup on the external HDD the night before, but I'll check it on the laptop to see if it works before I do anything. I was going to do a reformat anyway as I kept getting blue screens when I tried to play games or use Windows Live Messenger's sharing folders, but I'd still like to be able to actually go on the PC one last time to see if I've got everything.

I just got a new computer with an AMD Duron processor, 512 M RAM and Windows XP. Only problem is I've got no audio. I've checked BIOS and sound is enabled but Windows doesn't seem to recognize that the speakers are hooked up. When I tried to play system sounds from the Control Panel, I got an error message that said cannot play sound, your sound card may be in use. The computer was a gift that was bought used and the shop didn't have any documentation with the system. I think this might be a driver issue but I'm not sure how to find out which driver to try.
View 8 Replies View RelatedFirst off I use windows XP with the latest service pack. I'm using the onboard sound card on my motherboard Asus striker II extreme.
The volume of my flash player (I first noticed it when trying to view a video on Hulu) but other flash embedded videos won't play sound either. I thought this was a flash problem, and tried the usual fixes uninstalling reinstalling, running the update utility and removing and reinstalling the plugin. Also it likely isn't a browser issue as embedded videos didn't play on either Firefox or Opera.
After restarting my computer after a few uninstalls I noticed my startup music wasn't playing as well. I'm thinking that it might be some registry error as it seems like the music is very quiet instead of muted, and all of the volume levels in the Sounds and Audio Device Properties menu are at the correct levels, and my other media players play music and movies just fine.
I've browsed the forums and haven't seen anyone with a similar problem or a fix, so any help would be greatly apprciated.
After hardware upgrades, my custom XP Professional audio workstation will not allow me to re-install my Digigram VX-442 audio card driver or on-board audio.

But now that I have upgraded to XP on a 3.2 ghz Intel machine with a gig of ram, I am having two serious performance problems. I am using dBase IV 2.0. Keyboard input is slow and sporadic to display. Printing is delayed by up to a minute, but will execute immediatley if I exit the program. I have tried changing every aspet of the short cuts properties, including compatibily option, and executing it from CMD.EXE instead of COMMAND.COM.

I assume a DSP, especially for older CPUs (600 MHz. or so) is a big improvement because it offloads a lot of processing from the CPU. I am interested only in stereo. How can I know if an add-in sound card with a DSP is actually an improvement? Does the DSP overweigh other issues, eg. does a cheap Mad Dog Prowler 4.1 DSP sound card offer an improvement over the motherboard sound of a Compaq DeskPro ENS/P600? Truth is, I've been looking for but have not seen a treatise on this topic. Does anyone have any links for me to pursue?

View 6 Replies View RelatedA new machine with a new XP build who is unable to hear audio from his machine. After taking a look at his machine I noticed he had no audio driver installed. Thinking that this was a simple fix I attempted to re-install the Realtek HD Audio drivers that are included with the machine (HP dc-5750). After installation and restart I receive the new hardware detected prompt and I navigate to the directory with the .sys file in it. When attempting to install it the wizard states that it was unable to locate the drivers. I know the drivers are correct and I have even attempted to download updated drivers.
This is when I started to search the forums, all stating to remove the drivers and remove the UAA hotfix from Microsoft and re-install both. (UAA first then drivers) This failed to produce any results, so I looked around more and found an article stating I needed to extract the files into a folder and direct the new hardware wizard to the commonfile folder in the folder. This left me still without sound or a working driver.
I have registry key errors in the Input tab under Dxdiag. See attached files for full visuals, I found in the attachment DxDiag.txt It says that I have Registry Key errors
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had this problem last time when I fresh installed Windows XP Pro on my computer. I don't know the time, but it happens at least 30 days after I reinstall the OS and software. Today, my computer prompted me to install drivers for a PCI Input Device, but I haven't installed any new hardware for months. Basically, I haven't touched the inside of my computer for that long. So why is Device Manager prompting me to install this mystery device? Hardware ID shows that it is from vendor 1102, which is Creative, and I have an Audigy 1. Also, my FireWire port is Code 10, the device cannot start. So I'm thinking the mystery device is the same firewire port. But why show up as a separate device? I tried removing the devices and restarting the computer, but they return to haunt me again. The device properties for the PCI Input Device says PCI SLOT 7, AND I DONT HAVE A 7th slot! Can someone help me, please? Device manager shows my 1394 Net Adapter with a yellow exclamation, and it has code 10, device cannot start. There is an unknown device, the PCI Input Device, which doesn't allow me to install any drivers for it, yet it has the creative Vendor ID 1102. It shows itself as being PCI Slot 7.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhile trying to create a compilation album by copy and paste from the cd drive into a new folder I noticed all the CDA/media player files where only 44kb. I then tried right click/properties and it was as if the cd was not there although it did play in media player and other file format properties (ie mp3/vob/data) can be viewed. I have since discovered that virtually all files/drives when double clicked open with search this is driving me mad as it is probably just a setting the kids have accidently played with. Can anyone help PS Ive tried resetting the file types etc but nothing seems to work.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm using Win XP. Recently, in running video files, I'm getting audio, but the video portion is blank. My player is Windows Media Play 10, with current codecs. Preferences for the player are set to include all types of video files. I also have QuickTime installed, and DivX, although I don't use them. No previous problem like this. I've reinstalled Media Player and have the latest codecs package to go with it. Video files most used are .avi and .mpeg. I've got 512 ram, and that has not been a problem in the past. So, I'm guessing my video card has soured.
