After power outtage (yes I do know about UPSs)-after power returned I am unable to input text in any kind of field including Word, Notepad, ol express, URL boxes-nothing. I re-booted twice but still no joy.
View 6 RepliesI'm running winxp (en) on a pentium 4 machine with 512 MB RAM. Out of a sudden, my language bar on the taskbar was completely empty. in "text services and input languages" The language bar is greyed. I managed to set a key combination in order to switch back and forth beetwen French German and english. (Shift+Left Alt) is not working any more. When I run Winword (Office 2003) , the correct language is displayed in the status bar but Winword does not seem to recognize the language correctly what was the case before.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had Windows XP Pro SP2 installed, and then i did the huuuge mistake to install Vista Ultimate. Got annoyed and reinstalled XP Pro SP3.I backed up my files before goin back to XP on an external HD. And when I copied back the files to the pc I saw, to my horror, that everything looked ok. But when I try to open text documents, it's just garbled text. Looks like this.Every single document looks like that, rtf files, txt files, word documents and so on. And I've tried to open them and converting to different codings in word and so on (UTF, ANSII and what not). Nothing works.And then I saw, when I was gonna import my bookmarks in Firefox that I saved before I went back to XP from Vista, that those html files also are full of garbled text
I looked around on google, and can't find anything about it I would greatly appreciate some help. Every single text document, which is quite a few, is messed up. And some of them, I didnt even open in Vista.. So don't know if it's because of Vista or if its something else.
Sometime after downloading a recent Microsoft (Automatic) Update, I now find the Outlook and Word Programs remaining resident in memory after using Outlook (memory as viewed via Windows Task Manager). Sometimes, the programs gobble-up as much as 150K of RAM. I have 1.0 Gb of RAM on the machine. I find that I now routinely approach the 1.0 Gb threshold. And while this has not been a real problem in terms of system resources or performance, I find little reason to leave these programs resident in memory. I'm at a loss for how to keep these programs from commandeering a full-time presence in RAM. How to I prevent these programs from remaining resident in memory? I've combed through the configuration settings within each program, but with no clue as to user-control for this behavior.

I tried booting in safe mode for the most recent configuration that worked but no change. All folders and files since july 2007 has disappeared.

When I try to open Microsoft Office Word 2003 a window pops up that says window installer then it says installing microsoft office word feature. It stops half way and another window pops up that says Installation error file not found. A required installation file SKU112.CAB could not be found. Original installation source required. If you installed Microsoft Office Standard edition 2003 from cd please insert your cd.
If you installed Microsoft office standard edition 2003 over your computer network please browse to the installation source on your computer. Also a window popped up that says Microsoft word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install application. I don't have the cd its lost. This just started doing this about a month ago. I can't open any files through microsoft office word or power point.
When I click on a Word document (on my Desktop, for example), it seems to take a long time for the document to open. Yet if I have Word open and click on the document it opens instantaneously. Similarly, when I right click on a document, photo, spreadsheet file, it takes what seems a long time for the menu (Open, Run as, Send to, Delete, etc..) to open.

The only account on the system is mine that is an administrator account but i still get this error.
I have only one account on my Windows and it is the administrator account (mine because I'm the only one using the computer). The problem is when I make changes in msconfig, when I click on Apply, I get this message "An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service.You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified changes".I am the administrator and there is no other account than mine!

The OS does see the DVD drive because Roxio can burn to the drive. I prefer saving directly to the the drive from Word. What could be the problem?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem I have a new system installed Windows XP professional. Everything was ok till yesterday. I just have a few more things to install and I have the computer plugged into the 4 plug UPS so if the power goes down the computer has 5 minutes to shut down. Well the hydro went off yesterday for a few seconds and all of the other computers came back up but the new one. It was booting into Windows got to the Windows logo and the bar going across loading then after 10 minutes still sat there. I decided to re-boot to see what was wrong as I am a computer tech. Nothing so I went into safe mode that was fine got out of there same thing logo looks like it was starting nothing. I did put in the Windows XP disk thinking to just do a repair still the same thing. I get the Windows screen like it is loading nothing. Go back to safe mode and here is what it says and there is no disk at all in the drive. Can not run setup from Safe Mode rebooting computer.
