my computer used to have the option to switch user OR log off when I clicked the log off button, but now the switch user option has disappeared; however, both options are available on my other computer. What am I missing?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm going to create 30+ user accounts. They will be all running at the same time, running the same program. (the only way I've figured out how to dual-boot the same program) and I was wondering... Is there anyway to make it somehow use less resources doing so? Like, so far I've gone into Advanced > Performance and killed the switch on everything. I was just wondering, after days of running non-stop, it is bound to start eating up RAM or even cache to much, right? If so, what can I do to stretch the time this happens in? What else can I switch off/disable for each user to eat up less resources?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI currently have XP make me password login when I turn it on, but I'm just wondering, is there a way to have it automatically log me in, then go to the switch user screen? I ask this because it usually takes mine a while to load up to the logon screen, but then I have to go back and login before it works properly, so yeah, I'd just like to get it to log me in, load up, then got to the switch user screen so that I can go watch TV for half an hour, come back, and be ready to go.

I go to control panel and Fast User Switching is off, but i try to trun it on. i press Apply Option and i go back to it and its off again. I was tweaking the computer earlier and i think i by accidently messed up the the registry or turned off a service.

XP created the default 'Administrator' account, which is what it's supposed to do, but I don't what it to be visible to other users. I know how to switch to the classic view, but would like to keep the new XP view for ease of use by the other users.

You know windows has users you can log on with and it has your settings and files there for you as soon as you logon. well she comes home after 2 days and now its gone, and the other user (my dad had 1 when he loaded the windows for her, is there, but her files(mainly pictures) and settings arent there). View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a registry problem, in that when I booted up my laptop, it said a hive file for the SOFTWARE key was damaged. I fixed this by going into recovery console and restoring the registry backup. So now Windows starts again and everything is good. All of my files are still in tact. However, my settings are all gone. Even though my files are on the hard drive, the appearance of everything is as if Windows has just been installed. In Documents and Settings, the reason is revealed.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've reinstalled my computer with Windows XP SP2 instead of Windows 2000.I used to have a "remember username and password" in Windows 2000 that I no longer see.For example, when I now log in into MS Messenger, I need to reenter username and password with each login, and the check box that I used to have in W2K is gone.Another example, is web sites. I have username and password for certain web sites. Now that the check box is gone,I need to reenter the credentiald with each log in.In the new login windows, there is only a drop down list with a user icon next to the username field.But this drop down list is empty.
View 14 Replies View RelatedWay for me to change the logon option setting to Ctrl-Alt-Del? In W2K there was an easy checkbox setting in users from the control panel. And upgrading to WXP kept that setting. With WinXP preinstalled in a notebook, the logon screen comes up immediately from power up. I would like to require the intermediate step of manually pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del keys before the logon screen appears. I'm willing to reinstall W2K first and then reinstalling WXP as I also want to replace the existing notebook hdd with another larger capacity drive if I cannot find an acceptable answer soon.

Grifsoft for my virus protection. I scan my computer every night, and I keep
all my databases up-to-date. Recently, my computer was infected with the
Trojan Backdoor.SdBot virus, and I looked on the Norton Antiviruses website
to get rid of it and fix the computer. So now, at this time, I believe my
computer is clean.
I found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly
View 14 Replies View RelatedI turned my computer on, and a message pop up, saying that it couldn't find the settings for my user.After logging in it said that I didn't have enough space and if I wanted to get rid of unused things.I said yes and starting analizing space to free or something like that.I went on-line, runned my Webroot, and after an hour I came back erased 3 things and free the space that the software recommended.Then I went to look for a file and all my document folders is gone I can't find it. All the information on C drive is there.

Recently noticed that when I left-click on any of the icons of the Hard-disk drives and/or Devices with Removable Storage within 'My Computer', the 'Search' Option opens up by default instead of the 'Open' option, like in other folders. Likewise, when I right-click on the said icons, the 'Search' option is topmost & the 'Open' option has been relegated to second position. I would like the Search option to come first. Can't remember whether this was so from before or changed recently.
I have used Norton Partition Magic 8 recently to resize my partitions.
im running windows xp home edition sp3. while shutting down, my kid switched the pc off by the main switch. im getting a loop of starting up over and over and iv tried every option in advanced, ssafe mode etc, i just keep getting this loop of starting again and again. i got the bsod with unmountabe boot volume and a code, went to microsoft and the code cannot be found, i retyped it 3 times to make sure id typed it right and got error code not found. im using a netbook to find a resolution and i dont have any connectors to my pc. i havnt installed any new hardware or software and my gut is telling me that its because of the pc being swithced off by the mains during shutdown because i had no problems untill this happened. if i cant get my pc to switch on, how do i sort it out. my windows disc wont work.

My laptop was in perfect working order last night but when I came to turn it on this morning it wouldn't. No screen, no sound. Tried again and got a high pitched continuos beep from it so turned it off/on again, nothing. Pressed F8 to try start it up in safe mode but it wont do that either. There is NO screen at all coming up. If i cant start it up in safe mode is it DEAD?
View 8 Replies View RelatedYesterday he was trying to copy a DVD. As far as I understand (which is limited), it froze and he turned it off. When you try to switch it on, you get a black screen with a white message. the jist of it says that Windows shut down and that to restart it you need to choose a mode - it gives you options 'safe mode' 'last known settings that worked' 'normal mode' etc. We have tried all of these modes. the most successful of which always looks really promising - you get the blue windows screen, logo and jingle it looks like it is starting up but then dies and the screen goes black. When you turn it on you get the black screen again and go around in circles.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, if I log on to my account (an administrator account), then log off, none of the other users (my husband's admin. account or the kids' limited user accts) can be signed on. XP sits on the welcome screen for an unusually long time, then goes to just the user's wallpaper screen (no icons, no taskbar, nothing). Can't pull up task manager or warm boot, have to shut down & restart. I can log on any of the other accounts, and log off, and switch to mine, but not vice versa. Even if I don't do ANYTHING after signing on. So, the problems seems to be with my account settings somehow.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to play Diablo II: LoD, which requires that the LoD expansion CD be in my CDROM drive. I mounted an image of the disc with Daemon such that it's in (virtual) Drive E: (normal CDROM drive is D:[b][/b]). But the game seems to only be checking my D: Drive for the disc, and it won't let me point to the E: Drive.
Is there a way to just switch the drive letters around, and if so, do you think this would even solve my problem? Perhaps there's a way I can just set E: as my default CDROM drive, so that the game would check there?
