Unable To Switch To Category View / Left Side Panel Disappeared
Aug 21, 2005
I could not figure out how it happened. When I click Control Panel, I see Classic View.I am unable to switch to "Category View" because the left side panel disappeared. Please tell me how to recover the left side panel which allows me to choose between Classic/category view.
In windows 2000, explorer to the left of the folders view, their was a panel that would contain folder/file detail information. This was always displayed even when Folders view was selected to show the folder tree. In XP i can not figure how to get this panel or left side detail view to show. If I close the folders view then I get a left panel that has tasks/places/details tabs. The details tab contains what ai want for info but i also like to have the folders tree viewing also, but it does not display. When I click on folders viiew this window/panel/whatever witht the details in it disappears.
I was have a choice to switch in my control panel fron classic view to category view. When i update my pc i lost that choice and showing folders in "my computer" had been changed too.I try to restore the system but i faild. Is there a way to get it back?

I upgraded Explorer a few weeks ago.Now Favorites is ONLY available as a drop down list.I have searched everywhere to see if I can make it a column again without any liuck.I am running windows XP Pro.
On the left hand side of my desktop is a big blue bar. It is about 2 and a half inches wide ( from left to right) and goes from the top of my screen to the bottom where the start menu is. I have tried everything I can think of and have been unable to get rid of it. Does anyone know how to remove this. I even tried in msconfig.
I do not know what the bar is called but it is the bar that is usually at the bottom of the screen. It has the running programs in it and other things. Some how it moved from the bottom of the screen to the left side of my screen going up and down. I need to put it back to the bottom of the screen
I got back from holiday a few weeks ago and i notice that in my documents, my pictures and all the other windows folders, that the settings had changed. As you can see there is no toolbar on the left hand side of this folder and this is what ever one of my folders look like even if i create a new one. How can i get this back to the original look?
I need to know how to get my desktop to look the way it always has in the past. I did some odd thing and now the toolbar that has always behaved and stayed at the bottom of my desktop horizontally, is now standing straight up vertically on the left side of my desktop. What is the procedure to get it back to my "normal".
I go to start, a window opens up, two parts. The right hane side contains my nessary items, control panel, search, run ECT. The left hane side contains the recently open items. This fills up fast, and I must go and ''remove this item from list'' with my mouse. Time comsuming. Is there any way to keep items from loading up the left side menu in ''Start''? Have Compaq Presaro, windows XP, home, SP2.
I am running Windows XP, Intel P4 (531), 1024 RAM, Gateway PC. Each time I restart my PC, all of the icons on my desktop reset and line up on the left side of the screen. I move them back to where I want them and organize. If I reboot again, the icons reset again. What can be causing this and how can I fix the problem?
my computer used to have the option to switch user OR log off when I clicked the log off button, but now the switch user option has disappeared; however, both options are available on my other computer. What am I missing?
My control panel has disappeared and I can't fix it even though I've run AVG anti-virus and Spybot Search & Destroy. I'm also getting the following pop-up (with misspellings).Warning! Potential Spyware Operation!Your computer is making unauthorized copies of your system and Internet files. Run full scan now to prevent any unathorised access to your files! i have a problem with windows media player, whenever i try to play a video, it says play at the bottom left hand side of the screen but nothing plays, audio, or video, what do i do?
I have Window XP operating system and can no longer access the control panel. The icon is no longer available on my Start Menu. There is an icon called Set Program Access and Defaults and when I click on it it tells me "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". This is a private home computer, not on a system. Though I am a regular computer user I have few technical skills and may have entered an incorrect command.
After my pc has been infected by the "bagle prague" (hldrrr/wintems/flec006/srosa) i got cleaned by a software called Regrun. But the malwares have left some problems on my pc. The main problem is : In Control Panel / Folder option / View, i cant find the options related to "show hidden files". In this forum there is a solution already posted, but it didnt solve my problem.
Since reinstalling XP my minimized windows are not side by side on the task bar any longer there are two arrows which usually means they are in a list but they aren't, they just stack up on top of each other with only one icon which I have to keep clicking to resume the page I want to view.
In the past, I could switch users on the computer simply by clicking Start->log off->switch user and the user I was switching from could keep all of their windows and applications while I used my user setting. Something has happened, and now I actually have to close everything on one user's side and log the user off to be able to get to my user account. Is there a way to get it back to being able to share the computer?
so i installed service pack 2 today and had restarted the computer only to find that the welcome screen didn't appear, but the normal log in screen that i was used to seeing with earlier windows os. i logged in as both myself and my mom trying to make the welcome screen return, but nothing i've tried works. we are also unable to do the quick switch thing so we're being forced to completely log off and then log on again under our respective user names. whenever i try to switch accounts i get this message:This computer is in use and has been locked.'Only *insert name here* or an administrator can unlock it
In the last few days, I installed a game I download from Downloads.com.During installation, this product installed SecuRom's copy-protection files to my C:Documents and Settings<User>Application Data folder, creating a folder there (SecuRomData). After uninstalling any downloaded games, and during a routine inspection of the <User>Application, I noticed the SecuRom folder.Since I have never had any such folder after doing a fresh install of XP, I began to wonder what this was. So I attempted to delete the folder, after using JV16 powertools to search the Registry for any SecuRom entries, and removing them.
In a previous thread, XP was scanning on boot. I worked the problem to death, converted all partitions to NTFS, and we finally gave up. We formated 120G C: and re-partitioned...went from approx. three 40G parts to one 50G (C:) and remainder approx 65G (E:). This install was done yesterday, and this morning, on first boot, it froze at a black screen (desktop is black), with a solid drive action light. Re-boots do not evoke a scandisk, but give a good boot to the desktop. I've tried to view the error log, but it won't show any of those tools...."not found", sys info, etc.
COMPUTER MANUFACTURED IN SEPT.2003 how can i tell if the Windows XP version that was installed on the computer had SP1 with it or not? i have updated EVERYTHING that could be updated at the Windows Update home and when i review my 'installation history', i see nothing they says anything about SP1 was installed. Does that say thw Windows XP already had SP1 already,so it was not needed to install/update? i did install SP2.
When I go to the control panel and select Windows Firewall, I am getting the following error message "due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display windows firewall settings". I wanted to check the status as my T1 internet connection has ground to a halt. Dial-up is OK. I have run Norton, Adaware, spybot, amd MS antispyware and look good there.
I have burned this little 15 MB movie I created w/PS3 and I have no problems playing it on any PC w/WMP Ver 10, but when I burn a copy onto a CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-, or DVD+ and try to play it in my new Sony DVD/VCR multi-format player, it won't play. The Sony supports regular CD's, DVD+ RW/+R, DVD- RW/-R, JEPG, MP3, etc, it's brand new. So who do you call Microsoft who created the PS3 software, Toshiba (new laptop w/awsome mulit-dvd burner drive), Record Now (software that does the burning) or Sony who manufactured the DVD/VCR unit (new). Each tech seems to want to brush me off on the other.Like, is there some simple switch or something I'm not doing that makes a big difference when I want this movie to burn to a disk to be played back on a TV?
Can not view pictures on this website http://www.joellusion.com/ I am running IE 6.0, on Windows XP have run spyware doctor, registry mechanic, microsoft antispyware. I have turned off firewall and pop-up blocker. I still cannot view his pictures. This is a website my nephew built. Everyone else he has checked with can view them with no problem.
