I'm having issues setting up a home network with printers and hard drives all shared on a wireless local area network.Let's get the specifics out of the way first. Three computers, two desktops and a laptop are running XP home and pro, respectively. My computer dual-boots Ubuntu and Windows XP (but for now mainly XP). Also, (if it matters) I have a WRT54G Linksys router. Now, I have every computer on the same workgroup (NATENET). Every computer has their hard drive and printer set to "shared," and these drives and printers should be accessible. However, when any of the computers goes to "My Network Places," no hard drives are viewable. Also, when you hit "view workgroup computers," you can look at all the computers connected to the network; however, when you double click any computer to open it, it claims that it is unaccessible and the computer doesn't have the permissions necessary to open up the computer's directories.
I have just purchased a HP Media Center PC with XP2 and have an older HP PC with XP2. I also have a router hooked to both PSc to use the DSL internet connection. Is there someone that can help me with setting up a home network to move files from the old PC to the new PC
I have two computers wireless connected. What I now want to do it set up a password so hacking into the system by outsiders is as difficult as possible. I think we are talking "network key" or "Wired equivalency Privacy Key". I know nothing about setting up a wireless connection so don't want to risk disturbing the existing set up which works fine; I just want to add password access. One computer has Windows XP Home and the other Vista Home Premium. Can anyone give me some not too technical advice that will help me do this please?

I am trying to set up a home network to connect my laptop (with xp pro) to my desktop (with xp home) i am using a 3com office conect router as a hub. With the fire walls on each machine switched off I can see each of the machines from each other.I can share files on the laptop with the desktop, but when I try to access the desktop from the laptop I get the following message : xxxxxxx is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Login Failure : the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.
For getting XP Pro security settings on XP Home.Easier way to set sharing permissions on folders. You can use the GUI instaed of the more complicated command line without having to go into safe mode.1. Click on the start button2. Then run3. Type shrpubw4. Chose the folder whose permissions you want to change and give the share a name5. Click next, now you can chose custom if you want to have full options.Quick Tip: In order to set file permission in windows XP Home, the file system must already be converted to NTFS.

Is it really true that Microsoft XP Home cant run on a Microsoft XP Pro network? My boss has just bought an expensive new Sony Vaio PC with XP Home on it and is livid that despite what the salesman told him, it now appears that his shiny new laptop wont run on the network here at work.It would need to log in to a domain not to a work group. So far we can get it to surf the web but it cant see any local files.
Does anyone happen to know how to successfully create a network in Windows XP Pro for a wireless laptop and for an Ethernet-hooked-up (non-wireless) computer. I'm trying to printer and file share the two together BUT I've exhausted myself in trying to make it happen. Has anyone successfully done this? Am I missing something? Perhaps hardware?I would truly appreciate any help or advice.
I have three machines with different versions Windows (95, 98SE, and XP HE) all behind a hub, a switch, and a firewall. A few programs on my 98SE won't run on my XP. That means a trip down three floor levels (short levels of 6 -8 steps but I'm gettin' old).I ran across a piece of software that looks like it may be the answer I am concerned about downloading something from the net and later finding that it has tentacles that stretch beyond my little home network and now feed data outside my system. Q1) Will this particular product allow my XP to use programs on my 98SE as though I were sitting at the 98SE? Q2) Is there an increased security risk if this software were installed and used?
My company had our IT guy set up my laptop on the company network. He webex'd into my pc remotely and worked on it for over an hour. He created new user accounts, etc. I have since left the company and now when I attmept to log on at home (cable modem) the error says i cannot access certain files (outlook, etc.) because i do not have admin rights. I have a home network set up through Windows XP in my house. I have 2 linksys routers. The modem plugs into the 'wired' router which is in my room beside me and then connects upstairs to a wireless router (better broadcast signal for my sister who uses her laptop upstairs).Anyways, for some unexplained reason, a couple months ago, I noticed that when we wanted to transfer files our shared folders weren't working, and if we tried to transfer through MSN Messenger or any similar program, the speed would be extremely slow, it would take forever to even transfer a simple mp3 file. Recently, I have noticed that the speeds of files I recieve from friends also take extremely long (a 1.5MB photo takes about 5 - 10 minutes) but when I download things off of websites I don't have that problem.
I just got a new XP computer which I put on my home network. For some reason, I can't see it from another XP machine on the net nor can I see the other machine from the new one. I'm logged on under the same user name on both machines and both machines have sharing set up on their hard drives.
My friend earlier today installed Windows XP Home full install (an OEM version we found out later), now he cannot connect to the internet. His ISP provider said he needs "network drivers"...my question...where does one get these "network drivers"?

I have a work laptop running Win XP Pro that connects to my company domain, and to a company VPN. I need to be able to print documents at home, where I have a wireless/wired network (workgroup). I just finished a complete reinstall of Windows XP. Before the re-installation, I partitioned the hard drive. I want the basic Windows XP system files and drivers on my "C" drive and then I want to accumulate data files (word processing, spreadsheets, photos, music files, etc.) on the new partition which in this case has been labeled the "G" drive. The difficulty I am having is getting getting the "Documents and Settings" to move over to the "G" drive. So that when I want to load photographs from my camera to the computer it goes for C:Documents and SettingsMy NameMy DocumentsMy Pictures. Instead I would like it to go to G:Documents and SettingsMy NameMy DocumentsMy Pictures. Using Windows Explorer I changed the file name of "My Documents" to 'Windows XP old path My Documents" and then I was going to set up a new path to the "G" drive through Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Managment>Disk Management.
However I noticed that when I clicked on Start in the bottom left hand corner and it puts up that little window that "My Documents" which was listed now had the new title 'Windows XP old path My Documents' which I believe means I haven't gotten to the proper place to change the main configuration for Documents and Settings. Long way of saying how do I change the basic configuration for where Document and Settings are stored to a new location.
name of pc is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if u have xs permissions. Logon failure : the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer

Then NETWORK MAGIC pops-up and says {YOU ARE NOW CONNECTED} then I have to manually turn on IE6 button to go online, almost like the page {the page cannot be displayed} wants to come up first instead of the connection?
