I have a optical disk from my old build and 1 ide hard disk with xp installed.
I have tried booting from the ide hard disk with xp installed but when the xp loading splash screen is about to come a BSOD appears and it restarts. I can't read the BSOD as it goes to fast and i can't stop it.
Used the hard disk back with my old system and there is no problems, everything runs fine.
I have tried using 1 ram stick, both sticks, ram in different slot, every configuration i could think of. But i still have the problem. Tried the ram on a different system and it is fine. i can't get to run xp on this new system.
I am running XP Pro, single user on my machine. My screen saver setting is to require a password upon resuming. Until a few days ago this was working fine, showing the Welcome screen. Then suddenly I am now (only upon screenaver resumption) getting the classic logon screen. The option setting in the screensaver settings window has changed and I am utterly unable to determine what changed it or how to return it to the original state.
My account settings are for Fast User Switching and to Show Welcome Screen. I am not part of a domain. In perusing some newsgroups I have found this question before, however nowhere an answer to the question how to fix it. I concluded that something I must have done (without me being aware of it) had changed this and consequently decided to use an XP test build on another machine to possibly pinpoint such an occurence through a phased approach. Much to my surprise I found the setting for a screensaver to 'upon resome, password protect' from the get-go, i.e. the very first time I logged on, so my attempt for analyis was proven unsuccessful in record time.....
I am having a problem on my dell laptop insprion 8100, its running windows xp.The last few days it keeps resetting itself, I then get an option to upload a report which I do, I then get an error message I have tried loads of things now, virus checks, dell system check disks, and reformatted & then replaced windows still no luck, I thought it must ne a virus. I have searched and read a few people thought it was firefox but I have not even placed that back onto the computer but it still resets. I do see a blue screen b4 hand but can't read what's on it before the laptop resets. I hope someone can help as everything pointed to hardware but the dell disks pointing to software
Got Vista Home premium installed on 1 HDD installed another HDD trying to install XP boots from CD goes into setup stage loads all drivers gives message at the bottom windows is starting up and then Blue Screen Of Death Gives error stop code:0x0000007B.
I'm running Windows XP - Media Center Edition on Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2GHz, 1.5G RAM.This morning, Norton 360 detected and blocked several intrusion attempts, but stated that everything was secure.Shortly thereafter, every program that attempted to open would generate the following pop-up message, "[program name] UNABLE TO LOCATE COMPONENT - The application has failed to start because msefrms.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."I click OK to acknowledge this message, only to have it reappear. After several "OK clicks", however, the program usually opens and functions properly.
I restarted my PC to get into safe mode to run a virus scan, but the message appears even before Windows begins (even on winlogon, services, lsass, etc.). Again, a few clicks of OK gets me past the message and into Windows.I haven't been able to find ANY reference to msefrms.dll on the web.
just start my PC and suddenly it was black after Windows XP logo screen and flashes BSOD. I did install a driver recently. Cannot enter safe mode as it stopped at /driver/JGOJO Cannot enter "from previous working setting" I can't boot up at all. The error code in the blue screen is Page Fault in Non Paged Area with code 0x00000050 something.
I am using an HP Pavilion / Pentium 4 HT / WinXP Pro SP2 / 1 GB RAM / 200 GB HD desktop with no problems at all.
I used DBAN (Boot and Nuke) to wipe my data clean in hopes of reinstalling WinXP fresh. This morning while trying to reinstall Windows XP Pro SP2 I ran into several problems:
The copy I paid for was not recognized as a full version. A backup copy I had borrowed from a friend was recognized and successfully allowed me to format my HD. However, while installing the OS, after getting to about 80% of the files copied it started saying it couldn't find certain files. I had to swap copies of the WinXP discs several times and Retry to get all of the windows files copied.
Before getting to that, I formatted my HD using NFTS full which was successful. After finally getting all the Windows files copied, the system performed the initial reboot, and after the Windows XP black logo screen I got the BSOD stop error:
"Process1_Initialization_Failure"
I do not have Norton GoBack installed and have never had any issues with this computer at all so I don't see how it could be a HD, Memory or CDROM issue.
The folder for My Documents appears to be empty. If I open it, it basically looks like a blank folder. If I open properties>general for it, it shows that it takes up 0 bytes in size/size on disk, and it has "0 Files, 0 folders".
Everytime I open a folder of any kind and click on something this shortcut appears. If I click on this shortcut it says "Windows Script Host" There is no script file specified. What is it and how can I stop it please? Its very annoying. The shortcut is a big "S" and on the bottom it has this written: .VBS;VBE;JS;JSE
The word Webcam appears on my screen then my browser(Chrome) starts and loads tab after tab of a webpage for Logitech webcams. Taps continue to load until chrome crashes. Only then can I regain control of Chrome and the computer. I've tried all the usual antispy tools but nothing finds what is causing this. I do have a wireless logitech keyboard and mouse.
I have the Windows XP home edition operating system on my computer. Just recently when closing down a dialogue box appears with the text: "End Program - sprtmcd.exe" This goes through a little process then I select the "End Now" option and the computer closes down. This has to be done every time now. Everything else seems to be functioning normally as far as I can tell.

XP Professional has been running fine for years and now it won't shut down, it hangs at the screen. The only way to turn it off is with the power button. I tried to do a restore but when it gets to the point of restart the system won't shut down and the restore fails. I have McAfee installed and have scanned three times with no problems found.
Ive got this really annoying pop up that comes on when i switch on my PC (Windows XP)It's one of those long thin ones with 4 boxes ..insurance ,pharmacy.etc.It can be closed but i cant get rid of it.When i right click to find out where it's located nothing happens so i don't know what to try next?.I've run Spybot,Ad-Aware,Microsoft Beta,AVG,Mcafee but none of them seem to be able to pick up on it ?This comes on even when i'm not on the internet.

I am having a problem on one of my PCs at work where I run an installer and it never appears! I have run a full AV scan and a full spyware scan and also HJT. ALl turned up nothing. Any suggestions because I almost have no hair left
First i tried to boot from disk and then it told me that i dont even have a hard drive installed. I fixed this problem by pressing F6 when my windows cd was booting up and now it loads some RAID drivers off from a floppy disk i made up so that the HDD is there.
Just as some other posts have mentioned, i did not try the recovery console and went straight into setting up windows. When it asks me to choose a partition. I selected the one that i created when i built my computer (the one i have very valuable files on) and from there it gives me the "blue screen of death" or so my friend used to call it...the one that says the computer has been shut down to prevent damage to my computer.
Any ideas?
Also, with no other ideas i went into the recovery console... it asks something around "on what volume do you want to recover"...so i press the number 1 which is drive C then from there goes to the blue screen again.
Another thought i ran across is that the disk i am trying to use is a windows xp home and i set up my computer with xp pro....i seem to have lost the disk!!! Im hoping that's not the reason for the blue screen.
I am in a desktop administration class and I have been given a question I can't seem to find an answer for.PC appears to be booting in Safe Mode, however it is not. What is the likely problem?
So, my boyfriend a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4334 that is running XP Media Center 2002. This morning he woke up and it wouldn't finish booting. I'm running WinXP Home (SP2). Whenever I reboot, the language toolbar appears in the task bar. I remove it but it shows up again when I reboot. Is there any way to keep it from reappearing?
I downloaded Webshots 2.0, but when I try to use it as wallpaper the wallpaer only appears centered, and I already checked the "tile" option in windows properties. XP "tiles" every picture except in webshots.

Compaq desktop, AMD 3200, DVD drive (D) and Asus CD Rom (E) I'm sure I've read about this before but for the life of me, I can't find anything now that fits. My CD-Rom (E) drive appears in "MY Computer" but when I try to use it I get the message to "insert a disk". I've tried data disks, picture disks, and music disks but the drive still thinks it's empty
