Problem Reinstalling Windows XP After Data Wipe - BSOD "Process1_Initialization_Fail"
Apr 16, 2007
I am using an HP Pavilion / Pentium 4 HT / WinXP Pro SP2 / 1 GB RAM / 200 GB HD desktop with no problems at all.
I used DBAN (Boot and Nuke) to wipe my data clean in hopes of reinstalling WinXP fresh. This morning while trying to reinstall Windows XP Pro SP2 I ran into several problems:
The copy I paid for was not recognized as a full version.
A backup copy I had borrowed from a friend was recognized and successfully allowed me to format my HD. However, while installing the OS, after getting to about 80% of the files copied it started saying it couldn't find certain files.
I had to swap copies of the WinXP discs several times and Retry to get all of the windows files copied.
Before getting to that, I formatted my HD using NFTS full which was successful. After finally getting all the Windows files copied, the system performed the initial reboot, and after the Windows XP black logo screen I got the BSOD stop error:
"Process1_Initialization_Failure"
I do not have Norton GoBack installed and have never had any issues with this computer at all so I don't see how it could be a HD, Memory or CDROM issue.
Do I need a new copy of WinXP Pro?

I have some minor glitches in my system. I've been thinking about reformating the HD and reinstalling XP Pro. 2 questions: 1st is; if I back up my HD and then do a restore after reinstalling the os, won't I just restore the glitches I'm trying to get rid of? 2nd question; Since I've never done a reinstall and restore; will all my programs be restored just as if they have been installed (Drivers, programs, etc.); or do I have to reinstall all my programs and then do a restore so I get all the data that changed after they were installed?

I want to install a new primary hard drive and reinstall windows xp from scratch on the new c: drive. For the moment I would also like to retain the old disc contents and the xp operating system. To try to do this I installed a second hard drive and cloned the old drive c: to the new drive f:. I created a dual boot computer by editing my boot.ini file so I could boot from either the c: or f: drive. I replaced my primary hard drive with a new drive and booted up in the f: drive. Then I cloned the f: drive back to the new c: drive creating a dual boot system. My concern now is that if I reinstall windows xp on the newly installed hard drive, the Dell installation disk will wipe out the operating system and the contents on the f: drive. Is there any way to retain the old system? I'd appreciate any help with this.

I'm about ready to beat my head into a wall.I've got an onboard sound card that has not worked since I formatted my computer (Win XP Pro SP2). The device has the latest drivers from the manufacturer installed, it's enabled in Windows and the BIOS, the Audio Codecs are there, the Windows Sound service is running, thd driver reports no problems at all and yet, No Audio Devices are found when I go into Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control Panel. I've tried installing another sound card in there too, which installs fine, but still isn't selectable as an audio device. What the heck could I be missing here?

I just bought a new MB and CPU to upgrade my rig. I currently have a Athlon XP 3000 with an Epox MB and am going to a socket 939 X2 4800 and a ASRock 939 Dual-VSTA MB.So the question is: Is there any pointers or short-cuts when my system requires me to perform a re-installation of Windows XP? Is there a way to just update the drivers needed for my new MB and CPU or do I just have no choice but to do a reinstall of XP? What about the differences between repair and a full reinstallation.

After I installed Windows Xp Home Service Pack 2 I noticed that video playback was very jumpy with media player and that general performance was very slow. I installed all the drivers etc. I tried changing the screen resolution and colour quality but still no good. I'm also having problems with power saving: There is no standby option, when I close the laptop during operation and open it again, the screen does not return from black and I need to restart.
A further problem I am having is the TV-out option. Before when I pressed Fn+F8 a multiple monitor option would appear on the screen but now, nothing!

I recently reinstalled windows (XP) using the recovery disk supplied with the computer and now my memory is full even though I haven't reinstalled or recovered most of my old stuff. When I was reintalling I chose to create a new partition (I think that's what I chose anyway). Question 1: Are all of my old files still on my hard drive?Question 2: How can i either save them or get rid of them in order to free up more memory?

I have a desktop and a laptop but decided I needed to reinstall windows on the desktop. I backed up everything and started the re-boot. I deleted the partition and installed a fresh copy of windows. The first thing I noticed while it was installing was that it said it could not copy the files: presetup.cmd & setupORG. I skipped these and continued the installation but once the setup restarted my PC it hits an error screen saying that because these files were not copied setup has to abort.

I regularly put my laptop into hibernation rather than shutting down.
Until recently all worked OK.
However, suddenly, when resuming windows the BSOD appears. After switching off then on again, I have to delete the resume data and boot from scratch.

I have two hard drives(40 GB & 160GB both internal) installed in my system. Earlier I had installed windows XP on the first hard drive (40GB) and was using second hard drive as additional storage. I had partitioned my second hard drive into 5 partitions P, Q, R, S, T. Recently I reformatted my first hard drive and reinstalled windows XP. However this has also affected my second hard drive. Now Windows shows only two drives C: (my first hard drive) and D: (second hard drive) as only one partition each. Moreover it is not showing any data on the second hard drive. I want to get back my parition info and data on the second hard drive. I thought that formatting my first drive will not affect second drive and therefore didn't take back up of the second drive. What shall I do to get back my data and partition info.

I want to wipe XP and install win 98...The computer is going to be connected to my network and simply used for MP3 storage and back-up as well as I am going to connect my scanner to it. When I go to CMD promt and type Format C: it tells me that everything will be erased, yes all well and good. I enter yes and then it tells me that another process is using the hard drive and cannot format. It tells me that I can disconnect the handle or something like that and I again enter yes. It then tells me that It can't disconnect. What the hell? It doesn't even work from Dos? When I tried to run a XP home edition from Boot, it getts hung up on Kernel debugging DLL...Then I have to restart. Anyone have answers. I just want to wipe the drive, format in fat 32 and install win 98.I am going to take the video card, audio card, HD and CD-ROM and throw it all onto a motherboard I have from my old computer: Celeron 1.1GHZ processor, 256 SD PC-133 RAM.

I'm currently in an architectural design class and it's getting to the time where my teacher likes to get a clean start on the next year computer-wise. Now he always just uninstalls select things and then reinstalls the better versions the next year. Now I was thinking, since these computers are a few years old, he should just format them entirely, speeding them up greatly and clearing out any old problems. And this is where the problem comes in, he wants to save past student's files and I can't think of a way to do this after doing a wipe leaving out the option of backing them up on a seperate drive.

using BT client, when one of the shared files was "corrupt or missing" so she turned it off, and reset the computer.
When loaded again the entire drives files when accessed gave the message that the files were "corrupt". (The drive is secondary ide master).
She restarted again but then windows would not load, she called me, i entered safe mode but as it was loading it gave the option to not load sptd.sys, i found that windows would hang halfway through booting when this file was run so i opted to not load it and enter safe mode.
I found sptd.sys was part of daemon tools which may interfere with nero (both installed on her computer). so i disabled the file and booted into windows successfully.
The "coprrupt" drive had some data on it, but 120Gb worth had vanished. i ran scandisk which crashed, so i tried some file recovery software (stellar phoenix) but that only found a couple of directories with minimal data in it.
There is only about a gig worth of really irreplaceable data, which i would like to retreive, im pretty sure at this stage that all is pretty much lost.

reinstalling win 2000 on a laptop. In the past when I have needed to wipe an installation, I have just pulled the drive and put it into another of my machines to clean the hard drive to start all over and proceed that way. That being said, I have never done one with a laptop. I have a laptop that an aunt asked me to wipe. She does not remember the login password.

it came with 2000 and want to load XP. I loaded xp and it now has both on hard drive. it is a dell besides. If I reformat the hard drive, it will wipe out the drivers. I tried all I can think of to rid this computer of 2000, but it won't let me. I am considering reformatting and load only xp but not sure about drivers for a dell lap top. Are they the same as for a desktop?
