I'm running WinXP Home (SP2). Whenever I reboot, the language toolbar appears in the task bar. I remove it but it shows up again when I reboot. Is there any way to keep it from reappearing?
Our Dell running XP has several user accounts set up. Mine is fine, but my wife's has a problem. In Windows Explorer, when she clicks on the search button, the animated icon appears (dog, in this case), but nothing else - no choices (All files and folders, Pictures, music, or video, etc.) appear. Right-clicking anywhere only gives the Close Toolbar option. the result is that she is unable to search the computer for anything. Same result when using Start->Search. The weird thing is, as I said, Explorer in my user account is fine. I assume it must be a setting somewhere, but I can't find it. Anyone ever encounter this, or know how to remedy it?
When I press CTRL+ALT+DEL the task manager appears for a second, then minimizes itself to the icon tray. When I position the mouse over the icon it disappears. I've run Norton Antivirus, Ad-aware, Spy Sweeper and Microsoft Anti Spyware, but none of them identify a virus relating to this problem.
I am using XP on my PC at home and am having a problem with keeping open programs available on my task bar. I can open a website ok but if I need to open a second website the first one no longer appears accessible on the task bar. The only way I can get back to website #1 is by using the back arrow. Also if I close the second website the first one closes at the same time. I frequently need to go between two or more websites when working online and not having the link available is inconvenient at best. How can I set my computer so that all open websites will appear on the taskbar?
my computer was recently infected with a Trojan which i seem to have gotten rid of. Today when i opened the task manager it only seems to partially load. It will bring up the process list with the "End Process" button, but that is it. The other tabs and pull down menus are gone. The Task in the taskbar has the icon for it but doesn't have any words next to it
On my wife's user account there is this Blubster thing that keeps cropping up and I can't seem to get rid of it. Sometimes I think its using the whole cpu as nothing else opens. The second thing is and it may be connected to the above is that I have just downloaded the updates from windows and it upgraded explorer to, I think its version 7 which looks quite a bit different. Now on my user account it opened with a couple of question boxes etc and appears to work fine. But, when I opened my wife's user account it does very strange things. It open a screen that looks like the new version of windows explorer but nothing further happens. The mouse pointer becomes an I icon and I cant click on anything except the Start button to get out of it.What does it all mean?
Whenever I take a CD out of the burner and close the tray, an annoying cd icon flashes at the mouse pointer. This will happen if I just use a CD or burn a CD. I have windows XP Pro and am using a Cyber Drive CW079D CD R/RW.
how to stop double clicking on every icon and that'll probably mess you up sometimes. Well you think that you've clicked on it by opening it and you still waiting like an idiot sitting at the computer waiting for something to happen. Here's a solution for you: Click on the START MENU > CONTROL PANEL > NOTE: If you're in the new Windows XP mode in Control Panel - Click on the Appearance and Themes icon - If you have in the Classic mode then just simply click on the - FOLDER OPTIONS> Now you see the Click items as follows - go down to the little of Single Click to open an item - and if you want to you can click on one of Underline..... tools --doesn't do much though!
I am trying to put my outlook icon on the task bar. I don't remember how to do it. Can someone help me? Others that I created a long time ago have an .scf at the end of the file name.
I have Windows XP on my computer. I have a dictionary icon on my desktop. But I cant seem to drag that icon to the left side of my taskbar. When I drag it down it springs back up. How could i put it on my taskbar?
On my taskbar, just to the right of the green start button I have two icons (IE and Outlook) and I used to have an icon for the desktop. Somehow the desktop icon (which would minimize all open programs and show the desktop) has disapeared. Does anyone know how to add it back to the task bar?
I have Windows XP and I think I may have a problem. In my task bar I have aan icon that is a red sphere with a "X"n it. I keep having a balloon that pops up saying my "computer is infected" and to use a special spyware tool to remove it. It also says "Windows will download the most up to date antispyware for me and to click on the Icon. When I click on the Icon, nothing happens. I've run "Ad-Aware SE" and still have the "Balloon". This balloon keeps popping up very often and I "x" and it disappears for a little bit and reappears. I also have another balloon that says updates are ready to be downloaded. I click on it and Windows Service Pack 2 Setup Wizard comes up to be installed. When I try to install, it says installation was unsuccessful. The "computer infected" balloon really bothers me the most and I would like to know how to correct this.
I have Windows XP on my computer. And I have a monitor with built-in speakers. Can any one tell me how to put an icon on my taskbar which will allow me to make the sound louder or lower? Also, should I keep the sound turned off on my monitor?
I share my Internet connection with my son. I'd like to have the Taskbar on his computer show the Local Area Connection icon ( the two little monitors side by side ) the same as mine does, but I've forgotten how to do that.
My son was downloading something on the computer last night and he said all these pop ups came up and now on the task bar there is an icon , a shield with a x in the center that says your computer is infected. When I click on ok it says would you like to update your security software and install registry cleaner? Once in a while it keeps popping up from that icon that my computer has detected spyware infection and has corrupted the registry. Virus program shows nothing, well it showed threat of bloodhound and said it cleaned it but that is it. How do I get this off my taskbar and how do I get all the icons off that I dont want to run.
I lost the printer icon on my taskbar for an Epson ,anyone know how to get it back? Using Windows XP,haven't seen an error message Dell tech(??) suggested reinstalling software, which didn't help. The icon is still missing in action,it was there a few days ago.
I have no idea how this happened, but there's a new icon on the far right side of my taskbar that blinks (red shield with x to blue shield with question mark) . Every once in awhile a balloon will pop with some "system alert" garbage. Right click, left click, it doesn't matter, it takes you to the virusheat.com website. How do I remove this from my taskbar?I was going to email this virusheat company but figured I'd be in for more spam if I did.
Every time I start my computer, I have to go to the control panel and go to sound settings to put the volume control icon in the taskbar next to the clock. It use to load automatically but quit. How can I get the volume control icon to stay in the taskbar without having to go to the control panel to add it each time I start my computer?
I ahve been trying to get the volume icon back on my taskbar so I can raise and lower the volume. I went to the notification area where you can choose to place the icon on the taskbar, but it's greyed out and I can't change the gray so that I can highlight. The compaq people have me uninstall a driver and that didn't help. We selected default setting s and that didn't help. I found instructions on Microsoft.help but they work only if you've got the cd. My Windows XPHome ed. was preinstalled.
Recently I found that I cannot see the battery power indicator icon in the right corner of the task bar when I was using my laptop. But I can see the battery power percentage level and battery information in the dialogged window of power management in the control pannel. I don't know what happened. How can I see it again?
Recently I had to use my Windows XP Pro disk to repair a problem with Windows XP Pro. Now I don't have the icon in the task bar for the volume control. I have sound, I just don't have the icon. When I go to control panel, then sound and audio devices, and then I click on the box that says put volume icon in task bar. It says the volume control program is not installed and go to add/remove to install it.Where do I find it in the add/remove section?
About half the time I float the cursor over an icon in either the quick launch section or the system tray section of the task bar, the icon info window is buried underneath/behind the task bar.I have an NVidea card and have played with the various desktop settings through the NVidea display utility. but it changes nothing.I have experienced this on three separate machines using three separate display adapters, so I am thinking this is an OS problem.
I consider myself at least a bit competent when it comes to XP and computers... but this problem has me puzzled. I've done tons of searches on google, various forums, microsoft database, etc... and have found some similar problems except that I can't get my taskmanager to become visible. It's there, I know it because I get the resize pointers around the taskmanager's box.
Also, when I start-up WinXP. It gets to the login screen but I can't see my login picture or buttons. I can click on them and enter my password, but when it logs in (the windows start sound plays) the whole screen is black except for the mouse cursor (I don't have a wallpaper, just a black background, so I can't really tell you if my "wallpaper" is still there).
You know, the small icon that appears in your taskbar when connecting a USB device? It no longer shows up, so now I have to go to Windows Explorer and click "Eject" directly on the USB device. How can I have this icon re-appear?It's the one that let's you select your USB device to "Safely remove device".
I cannot seem to make my sound volume icon stay in my taskbar. I have Winxp on my Gateway laptop. So far, I've unlocked the taskbar, then I went to my control panel and checked the box that said to put icon in taskbar. Then sometimes the icon would appear in the taskbar. Then I would lock the taskbar. Then the next time I rebooted, the icon was gone. Sometimes the icon won't even appear in the taskbar when I put the little check mark where it belongs in the control panel.
I can't get my volume icon to appear on the task bar, although I have created a short cut to sndvol32.exe, and that will control my volume. In addition, going to the control panel, Sound and Audio Devices will not cause it to appear on the task bar. This is a difficult problem that I have worked on for months One source suggested conducting a repair reinstall of the Windows XP Media Center Edition software. I have made some registry edits previously, and this may be part of the problem.
This is a very simple matter. I have always had an icon on my taskbar for accessing my desktop that I use quite often. Its been there so long that I can't remember if I put it there or if it came that way on the computer. Tonight, the icon had changed and when I clicked on it, I got the little flashlight and asked if I wanted to search. Grrrr. Not the end of the world but I would really like to have it back.
