View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows XP Home version 2002 with SP3 and cannot connect to the internet with 2 of the User Accounts. Account No 1 No problems Account No 2 IE freezes whenever I try to connect to the internet. Account No 3 I set up this new account to see if a new account would have the same problem connecting to the internet as Account No 2. It does. On checking both Accounts I found that the Documents & Settings folder is missing. In Account No 1 it is present. Would this missing folder have anything to do with being unable to connect to the internet and if so,
View 3 Replies View RelatedWell, not actually missing because you can find them if drill down enough: but in some user accounts the my documents folder ('User's Documents') is not immediately visible under 'my computer' whereas in some it is. I would like all users to have a view of their 'my documents' folder. Also, the administrator can see these folders, but sometimes they are called 'User's Documents' and sometimes, just 'User'!

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe folder for My Documents appears to be empty. If I open it, it basically looks like a blank folder. If I open properties>general for it, it shows that it takes up 0 bytes in size/size on disk, and it has "0 Files, 0 folders".
View 7 Replies View RelatedXP Pro SP2, everything up to date. When I log on the Administrator account I can see the Shared Docs, Admins' Doc and all the other user's "My Documents" folders except for one user account which seems to be invisible for some reason. The user account in question is a member of the following groups: Users, Power Users, Debugger Users. How do I get this user account's "My Documents" folder to appear in explorer when logged on as Admin?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a user's My Documents folder redirected to a share on our domain controller. The name of this user's My Documents folder is username's Documents. Whenever I try to change this to My Documents, it immediately reverts back to username's Documents. However, if I open a command window and say dir, I see My Documents which is what I would expect.

In previously highlighted issues regarding backing-up shared documents to my Seagate Freeagent hard drive, I simply decided to move the My Music Folder from the shared documents folder, but Windows is disallowing me from doing this stating that My Music is a Windows system folder & cannot be renamed or removed? Any help please on getting around this to move My Music from the shared documents? I'm running XP with servce pack 3.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot up my computer the system 32 folder appears. I would like to get rid of this unscheduled appearance. There is no mention of System 32 in msconfig so I cannot simply uncheck a box and have it not start up. I did find a MS article on this problem; http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=170086, but it calls for editing the registry and as the directions are not too clear, I am afraid to do this on my own for fear of fouling something critical. I am fine with the instructions till the last step where they call for editing Value data. If someone knowledgable with the registry could give me some detailed directions I would like to try to eliminate System 32 from appearing. Computer info (if needed) is in my profile.

Managed to also delete WordPad and when I start up - a message box labeled "Windows Installer" appears with the note - "Preparing to Install." Notice goes away and I do whatever I need to do online. However I need to reinstall a printer and am getting the message that the installer is missing. How do I fix that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI start my pc and when I reach the desktop, I just see a black screen with the mouse pointer appearing. View 3 Replies View RelatedI made the change below however, if I click on a folder in the left hand "Folders" pane, it works as before and opens the folder and displayed in the contents in the right hand pane.
However, if I click on any folders in the right hand (files pane) a new windows explorer window opens a displays the "my documents".
The same thing happens if you click on a shortcut to a folder. Instead of the folder opening, it opens a new window and displays "my documents".
This problems started when I added a new function to the folder file folder file type properties to print out the contents of a folder by calling a batch file that piped the content to a file.
In the file association for file folders in the advanced section I now have three functions
- the afore mentioned 'create file list'
- explore (the default), and
- find
For the folder file type I just have:
- explore and
- open
Any suggestions on how to put things back to the way Windows Explorer always worked before make clicking folders in the right hand pane open them up properly in the same window as per clicking them on the left hand pane?
I have lost all of my files within My Documents. All the folders remain, but all of the actual files are missing. No system changes have been made, nothing new was installed. I have run virus scans (I'm using SymantecAV Corporate) AdAware, Spybot S&D with nothing found.
They're still there somewhere, as the user folder properties show the correct size for the folder and number of documents, but not initially - right clicking on the folder to display properties shows a small number at first and then it gradually counts up. Properties for My Documents shows a small number of folders, all empty.
Just recently I began to get the error message "Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may have been moved, deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server." every time I try to access one of my web-based folders. These worked before, and just recently stopped working. I am not sure if a security patch I applied did this
View 4 Replies View RelatedNew user, first time post here. I've got a problem with Windows XP. So a friend of mine gave me a copy of norton ghost 2003 to try out. Well, it must have been a bad copy because when I tried to run it, the program just hung up and did not start the dos ghost, despite waiting for an hour. I shut off the power to the computer, and then it was stuck in this loop of going to pc-dos whenever I turned on the computer. It would not bypass this despite picking the option to skip ghost and go straight to windows. So, I had a new hard drive to put into the computer (which precipitated this whole ghost business in the first place), and i reloaded windows, which went fine
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had a serious crash with windows xp (SP2) last night that resulted in having to reinstall Windows XP (it wouldn't repair, wouldn't let me partition and wouldn't let me install windows into a different
directory - was crashing for anything but a full reinstall). As a result of this, I've lost access to the my documents folder of my original user profile. Moreover, it shows as being 0 bytes in size, except the total size of my HDD has not been reduced.
Is it better to have the MyDocuments folder outside the local C: drive or to use the default MyDocuments folder that is a subfolder to the local C: drive? Why? I have been using a MyDocuments folder that is at the same level as MyComputer in the directory tree, because I was told that there is a limitation to the size of the MyDocuments folder. However, it also was mentioned that the size limitation does not exist with WinXPpro.
