For some reason when ever I start up the folder "system32" appears on my desktop. It's not a big deal it's more annoying than anything but I'm sure when I go to START UP what uncheck to stop this from popping up everytime.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi updated my windows XP home edition to service pack2, but i recently found out that my system32 folder is missing from C:WINDOWS.I also use search to look for it and i couldn't find it anywhere on My Computer.I have also been getting an Application error recently and i have noticed this after i deleted my AVG anti-virus (I'm not sure whether deleting AVG was the problem).The error says:"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.Sometimes the application is rundll32.exe, explorer.exe and when i turn on my computer it says that the error is userinit.exe at the welcome screen.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI happen to notice the size of the WindowsSystem32 folder to be a surprising 892 MB. Checking the size of the Windows folder showed a 383 GB size on disk. Aren't these numbers a tad on the large side? Is my system failing to purge trash and temp files by attaching some strange extention on files? Are log files ever labled as anything other than .log? Or temp files ever something besides .tmp? Fellow tech freaks, I await thy wisdom. If I'm just being paranoid, and my OS folders aren't bloated, please pass on anything I can do to keep an eye out for commonly overlooked bad habits of windows xp sp2 including file and folder build-up, leading to sluggish start-up and general degrading of simple operations.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWell, reciently I've discovered that my C:WindowsSystem32 folder is gone. Just gone. And it seems that any time a program tries to open something in that folder, it just pops up and says that the file is missing or whatnot.
1. The files are still there. I can access them through IE by typing in the dir in the address bar.
2. The folder is supposedly "Hidden," but I have it set to view all hidden files and folders.
problem #1. why do i always have the system32 folder pop up as soon as im on the desktop? its such a pain, for no reason it comes up... problem #2. why can i not delete the bar on the left side of the screen... its annoying too, and i tried alot of things too problem #3.is there too many svchost things running? i dont know what to terminate if i dont know what its doing other than eating tons of memory

When I boot up my computer the system 32 folder appears. I would like to get rid of this unscheduled appearance. There is no mention of System 32 in msconfig so I cannot simply uncheck a box and have it not start up. I did find a MS article on this problem; http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=170086, but it calls for editing the registry and as the directions are not too clear, I am afraid to do this on my own for fear of fouling something critical. I am fine with the instructions till the last step where they call for editing Value data. If someone knowledgable with the registry could give me some detailed directions I would like to try to eliminate System 32 from appearing. Computer info (if needed) is in my profile.

My boss told me to press F8 and take it where it says Use last known good configuration....I did that but Im still getting a message windows could not start ref missing or corrupt file It said for me to start windows set up by using the original CD-Rom.... The only CD roms I can find for my desktop is this one.
I can't start Windows XP Home Edition on my PC because the hal.dll file in system32 is corrupt. Therefore I am getting the "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <windows root>system32hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the above file." error message. To complicate things, I absolutely don't have the original Windows XP Home Edition CD I used to install the operating system; therefore I can't just restore missing file.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI was playing Medieval II: Total War and the computer crashes. Then when I try to boot it up I get Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM. I've checked BIOS for the boot procedure, and everything seems to be in order. I then go through the regular procedure of putting in the CD to run the repair. I boot from the CD, it loads up fine... but there are no partitions and no option to enter the recovery console (which I've read so many wonderful things about).
So now I'm sort of stuck. There's no options other than install and delete the selected (none) partition. If I hit delete (b/c in anger sometimes I'm an idiot) it tells me it's a system partition and there could be VALUABLE system information like AN OS (I'm fuming at this point). NO... I did not delete it. If I hit install, I get a bunch of bogus about how "Setup cannot install to the selected partition.

I double checked this by replacing the cable and seeing if the BIOS could see it, which it could. When I tried to log back into Windows however I got this message. Code: Windows could not start becuase the following file is missing or corrupt:WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEMYou can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the orginal Setup CD-ROM.Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.I'm not sure how this works. Do I hit 'r' at the blue screen after it loads all the drivers or do let it setup and I will get a chance to choose a repair option. The error only effects Windows. I know for sure because I have a Linux partition that works fine. I have my orgainl Windows XP CD- ROM. Does anyone know the steps to fix this? View 4 Replies View RelatedApparently I purchased a counterfeit version of Windows XP Pro. Recently I allowed my system to be updated as I have have many times in the past. This time I was asked to accept a user agreement. I did not read the user agreement in details but I think it did mention something about this counterfeit check. Now I have a star that appears on my desktop and is constantly bothering me with a pop-up balloon that states "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting". I would graciously pay the amount they want for a valid license which is $ 149 but the problem is I read on their "win xp boards" that in most cases you end up having to reload their acceptable version of Windows XP. We don't have the time to start from scratch. In my opinion, Microsoft needs to do a better job policing who is a valid dealer and who is not.
