whenever is start-up windows iam getting this error..i installed xp twice but no use..let me know how to overcome it..the error is below something like this but not accurate.

Turned on the computer and got an error that said, Failed to start because UMPNPMGR.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Two problems � I do not know what that file is, and the computer will not get past the error, so even if I did find the file how would I install it on the computer? My computer knowledge is only average so I am not knowledgeable enough to play with the registry. I tried to boot up in Safe Mode also, however it would not get past the error.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen looking for some files, I tried to unhide a folder and it just made more folders disappear. I checked the Hidden folders option (in the properties window of the folder that contained the files I was looking for)
and the folder I was in became hidden. I cleared the box for hide folders but it is still hidden.
I have windows xp. When I click on start, all prgrams - the list of programs shows up but alot of those folders are empy. Games, System tools, Microsoft Money, Microsoft Office Tools and many others are all empty. I apologize if this is a stupid question.I'm afraid I've done something by mistake to mess these folders up. Any help would be appreciated.

I get the black WINDOWS XP screen, then, the screen goes BLANK for anywhere from 3-5 minutes before it proceeds. View 12 Replies View RelatedI was playing Medieval II: Total War and the computer crashes. Then when I try to boot it up I get Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM. I've checked BIOS for the boot procedure, and everything seems to be in order. I then go through the regular procedure of putting in the CD to run the repair. I boot from the CD, it loads up fine... but there are no partitions and no option to enter the recovery console (which I've read so many wonderful things about).
So now I'm sort of stuck. There's no options other than install and delete the selected (none) partition. If I hit delete (b/c in anger sometimes I'm an idiot) it tells me it's a system partition and there could be VALUABLE system information like AN OS (I'm fuming at this point). NO... I did not delete it. If I hit install, I get a bunch of bogus about how "Setup cannot install to the selected partition.
For some reason when ever I start up the folder "system32" appears on my desktop. It's not a big deal it's more annoying than anything but I'm sure when I go to START UP what uncheck to stop this from popping up everytime.

I double checked this by replacing the cable and seeing if the BIOS could see it, which it could. When I tried to log back into Windows however I got this message. I put in the installation disc, hoping to be able to push the "repair" button, but all I got was the following message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt <Windows root>/system32/hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of this file." OK, but how? Where would I get such a copy, is it on the Inst Disc, and PARTICULARLY - how can I install this file (when I can't get the system to open or can't even reinstall the OS from the Installation disc) IMPORTANT!! 1.I fixed system32 missing error, now xp set up a new user. My old files are there... But I can't log on as my old user name to get back to work. Is there a simple way to restore my old user? Everything appears to be fine.
2. In my hours of attempting to fix the system 32 thing 2 new boot points have been installed. I cant seem to get rid of them. I tried the msconfig thing but there is no way to delete them from there. Please help 20 hours of this crap and counting.

I was exiting a game and windows started getting really slow and i could not click on anything so i held my power button on my computer and shut it off. When I did this I got to the first step in a tutorial online where I type "copy c:windowsystem.... etc"

The message is quite ominous: Stop error c0000218 and the hive affected is system root/system32/config/default It's impossible to recover the last working config or start in safe mode or do anything. It keeps looping back to the blue screen with the stop error. The pc does not recognize the hard drive, it does not have a recovery cd.

I started getting an error message "Application has failed to start because Framedyn.dll was not found". I found a place on the internet where I could download DLL files. I downloaded the file and followed there instructions which were. Save file to the directory that is requesting the file. If that doesn't work save it to your system directory C:windowssystem32. I saved it in the system directory wasn't sure exactly which directory was requesting it. Reboot the computer. If the problem still occurs, try the following: Press start then Run, Type CDM and press enter, Type regsvr32 framedyn.dll and press enter. I did this and ow I am getting an error message
